Cyclists are set to race through Essex, London and parts of Hertfordshire during the return of a prestigious two-wheeled event.

    Up to 25,000 people will take part in the RideLondon tour across Friday, Saturday and Sunday, organisers estimate.

    Transport for London says it wants to see more londoners cycling and as they try to promote that thousands of bikes raced into Central London today as part of ride London Emma nor went along to meet some of those on two wheels 21,000 pairs of legs 42,000 wheels and goodness knows how many acres of Lyra today ride London replaced the buzz of traffic with the were of bikes today’s event was for anyone who wanted to have a go 8 m of traffic free roads and whatever got you round we’re not competitive at all just come here to enjoy it take some photos enjoy the scenery where is it that you’re going to have your lunch up near the ice cream van so that we’ve got dessert yeah it’s really fun I I’ve never really done anything like it before actually I I normally just ride my bike down up the hill on our street and go down the woods with it and bit further today yeah hello my name is Ryder and ring ride London Ryder why are you riding ride London don’t know but while there were plenty for whom this was a fun run on Wheels there was a contingent taking this very seriously tens of thousands of devoted cyclists completing a 30 60 or 100 mile long route for many this was the culmination of months and months of hard work for others maybe not so so much did you do the 100 miles no we did 30 we did 30 miles why that uh because we haven’t rid a bike in like five or six years so we would have been in an ambulance otherwise this year is we’ve just topped £85 million pound being raised by this event for charity I think we’ve just stopped about half a million people having done the rides you know this is an event that just grows and grows and gets ever more popular tomorrow these streets will be back to their noisy selves today they belonged to the tired but triumphant Emma nor BBC London more than 20,000 people took part in a Bike Race Across the capital this weekend thousands crossed the Finish Line on towerbridge after a grueling 3-day race it began in Essex on Friday with many taking part in the competition for charity Anna giri was at the Finish Line you whilst most of us opt for a lie in over the bank holiday weekend by 10:00 this morning these cyclists had already gone the distance some covering 30 Mi others 60 the most Brave managing a mere 100 miles before breakfast greeted with energy bars at the Finish they reflected on their right there’s a real sense of camaraderie as well as taking in a few of the sites of London it’s brilliant no traffic no pollution and the Sun was shining finishing in the Tage made me so emotional I mean and going through all the um City I actually feel surprisingly okay because uh um it’s a relatively flat route it’s quite you know obviously 100 miles long but actually you’re in a group and you’re just flying along really fast so it it’s really enjoyable yeah 25,000 took part in the longest distance route this is one of the biggest cycling festivals in the UK ride London was set up in 2013 as a legacy to the Olympic Games [Music] cyclists like toass really pedal against the odds she is living in a West London Asylum Hotel on less than10 a week a charity is supporting her to keep her cycling career on track in Ethiopia she enjoyed success at Elite level I’m very happy uh the first 20 miles she had a puncture but now she’s fine she made it me that’s I am really feeling very happy but as well as race competitors the event closed an 8mile stretch of roads through the capital for anyone to cycle on passing St Paul’s traga Square Riders went past booking and Palace too kids age three to grandparents age 93 cycling around looking at the sight some little kid just said I wonder if the king seen me cycling a celebration of the sport the the event takes a break until next year but organizers hope participants are motivated to keep pedling in the meantime Anna giri ITV News
