where they say you can’t take your Ferry on board you can’t take your car on board the ferry if you’ve got a full charge your first time on the ferry with a TI first time on the ferry with a TI can so all these myths and misinformation come this way a little bit you got to be in the middle uh uh right we’re going to we’re going to myth bust them going bit close to yeah myth bust we’re going to myth bust it but I I think it’ll be interesting because your car’s quite low yeah so just getting onto the ferry whether you’re going to you know right off your car by knocking out the battery but I’m sure it’ll be fine hopefully so 600 mil two maybe three charges for you yeah I can’t do that on a full tank right and I’ve got mine now I’ve got it all sorted out using the computer system on board so I can prep my battery Etc I reckon I’m in with a chance here cuz it’s the first one that gets to Benny dorm yeah for the cheapest and the quickest it’s not a race no two two two prizes basically first I’m not even there yet and then I got through to the second one border control which was the UK Jeff’s passed his passport through to them and then uh I went I looked to the lady there who was the immigration officer and she went morning I said morning you’re right I went to give my passport she went are you with him I said yeah and she went on you go never even show my passport lovely lady lovely [Music] lady right so we’re going around again travel with jet F we’re not actually on dfds fairies we’re actually on Irish fairies so we’ve had to go round and we doing the we’re going around same amount of range my car is about the same as you’re fully charged at about 250 Mi mine’s got about that left in it from filling up yesterday do do we do a convoy do we stop do we have a coffee do we try make no let’s just go let’s just get let’s go and get on it and get there so you we’re both going to Plum Milow into the satnav which should take us annoyingly around the outskirts of Paris uh it’s a Sunday today so the road should be okay and then it’s a straight shot all the way down to Mila so it’s an 8 hour drive so in theory we could be there by 6:00 we we we we Jim we me so yeah 6 o00 road here isn’t it uh and we just go for it I’m just I’m I’m on it we’re just going to get the high powerered Chargers we’re just going to get there and we’re going to see a lot of the sites along the way you’re going to have a look at the sites with me and keep me company along the way this is going to be exciting right come on onwards my friends [Music] right so I’ve now managed to change my Speedo to kilometers per hour so we’re all good there so I can see so I don’t break the speed limit Etc so I know exactly what I’m doing because we don’t want to be going over the speed limit in France because they like to fine you so uh we’re all good 90 km per hour is what we are we should be at so we’re good we’re just going to put it on cruise 90 km hour and we’re going to get on a long our way okay now the next stop before we charge is let’s have a look where we’re at is in oh dear where are we at 273 km and we’ve got a range of 3 and 29 km uh left on uh range so we’re all good at the moment right excellent and it just seems a pretty open road but we’re driving on the wrong side [Music] so that worked went through the first toll booth got my little beep thing up there window tag thing toll booth tag that I did which comes off automattic Bally off direct debit it just went beep and I literally just went straight through that’s working that’s good Happy Days right [Music] onwards so I’m just having a Mentos fruit Mint or whatever it is Jeff has stopped for p metal already and it’s only uh 9:37 we’re an hour ahead of the UK and he’s filling up his tank already which apparently is more expensive than the UK per liter so I reckon I reckon I’m in for a chance here for getting down there cheaper than jck however I’m going to stop for a Wei myself I need a [Music] Wei I think I need to put his windscreen wipers up let’s turn this off okay let’s put his wind screen wipers up here we go all right now let’s get back in the car going to wonder what’s going on how do I get to the car park or do I just go do I just go you know what while I go to the L I can do it can I go this way there is some ionity charges here so I reckon I can just charge up while I’m having a Wii and a little toilet break right start I may as well charge it up and put a little bit in while I’m going to the L especially as it’s ionity preparing to charge and setting up communication with Twix and some water for the journey so now I shouldn’t need to stop for a little bit longer we should have got about nearly 100% charge in it’s warming up right tell you what I wish I’d learn my French at school I did French at school as well I think everybody did didn’t they right let’s pop them in there and then let’s see oh 99% we’re at this is good means I don’t need to stop for a while I’m going to take this off and then see how much this has cost me cuz this is on my post charging card now we could should be able to hit the road and not stop for a while stop there we go let take this out and then we’ll see how much that’s cost me right it’s not saying it’s actually registered yet so I’m not going to wait around it won’t be very much because it’s ionity and it’s subsidized so too good on water uh I thought I’ll charge well yeah I’ve been trying to work out when you were going to charge I figured well you’re not going to need a big charge for a while maybe you might have a charge so that’s what you done You’ had a poo charge I had a poo charge and now I’m good I’m good I’m on the road I’ve got Twix I’ve got Kit Kat and because it’s hot I’ve now got the cooling seats on in my car wafting cool air onto my chocolate bars that very good you know how charge you know yet uh I I didn’t tell me how much it’s cost me in charge um so I’m going to find that out in a little while but uh I’m on I’m on the road now and I’m ready to rock yeah H you on thisp I the most expensive station in the world yeah you’ve been to the most expensive station in the world wait there Jeff onwards my friends [Music] so I’ve now got my ways working in kilometers per hour so I know the speed limit I’ve got everything set up perfectly I’ve got uh my cooling seats on wafting cool air uh to my back and up to my da a uh keeping that cool as well and uh I’m good all is good got my kit kat on there my chunky Kit Kat my Twix got my water my VR water uh and we’re good to go we’ve literally now not got a stop now for 293 km which is going to take quite a while we sit back the roads are fantastic here by the way I have to say I’m just saying to Jeff no pot holes the French have just go do you know what the french have got it perfect with their roads there is no potol there’s no traffic it’s literally driving pleasure the UK If what’s great about britsh anymore nothing this is fantastic look I’ve got it on cruise control there’s an open road and I’m not damaging my wheels with potholes [Music] [Applause] [Music] I’ve just passed the services back there they’ve got fastened or fastened uh which is a charging service they’ve got charging points everywhere every station that have been passed they’ve got fast charging points and they’re all available so so far so good uh we don’t need any charge though we are all good oh wow there’s an old Mercedes on there and a Porsche 911 very nice uh on the back of a trailer a 911 I mean coming down here in a 9 oh that would have been good wouldn’t it that would have been a different ball game 911 sound of the 911 maybe maybe Jeff in a in a Aston Martin or something now that would have been different might have to do that next time [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay bit of an update for you it is 11:42 we have now got uh to the next charging Point we’ve actually got an hour and 28 minutes which is 139 km to the next charging Point W’s also said cuz I’ve got that in the background uh a warning that we’ve got bad weather ahead come on it’s France supposed to be further south supposed to be better weather uh we’ve got bad weather hopefully when we get further further south and the Sunshine and we’ll get blue skies be a bit more picturesque but at the moment we got rain it’s like being in England but on the opposite side of the road it’s just wrong where’s we need blue sky and sunshine come on anyway so we’re all good at the moment 194 kilm of range left uh and we when we get there it says we should have 15% of battery left when we get to the charging point which apparently at the moment is ionity and there’s four of six uh Chargers available so we’re doing good Jeff also said he might have to fill up again this is going to be great I’m feeling good I’m feeling good I mean I’m I’m I’m in it for the Evangelist this time I’m not I am not an evangelist all right I’m not an evangelist average speed check zone right we need to work this out then look at that you see Jeff buys cars having to reach over I just wafted through the old toll booth with my uh things on the wind screen there my little tags that I got I’m all organized I’m good I’m even I’m even getting ahead of him there cuz he’s going to be reaching over trying to pay I mean he was going to put it on the end of a baseball bat his I’ve got to go I’ve got to go I’ve got to reach over to pay for the toll and he would told me about these things on the wind screen I got do you know what it it’s been a pleasurable trip so far but this bit is just a little bit annoying the traffic but I have to say the roads are amazing where’s all the potholes there isn’t any [Music] la [Music] right so we are through Paris now uh to the bottom of Paris so that was a bit of a nightmare but hopefully now it should be a bit of an easier run and then to the charge point that we’ve got now we got 70 km but I need a Wei but I’m not going to go I’m going to hold it I need a Wei more traffic coming up I really need a Wei but I just want to get there and charge I want to use my time effectively [Music] right this is not ideal now got bad weather and it’s uh tipping it down so I’m going to have to really concentrate now a really really reported ahead police reported ahead okay so I’m I’m fine um I’ve got Wes working in the background telling me where the police are uh I’m dying for a we but I am not going to go until I get to that charge Point reason being is because that way my battery is going to have preconditioned itself for when I get there it’ll charge quicker I can have a quick SN have a toilet breake get back in the car and get back on the road because we’ve got still another 626 kilm to go this is [Music] insane cheap I’m easily going to beat Jeff on cost right I tell you what I’m going to do I know it’s wasting time but I don’t want to start eating my sandwiches on the way down uh because at the moment I’m 92% charged I’m just going to try my jambon right it looks about as appetizing as a dried up flipflop basically here we go okay this here we go we got ham and cheese there you go look at that yeah literally just lost all its power and went down to range mode and I can do 13 kilm per hour and the maximum that I could have done even though it said it was a quicker route was 100 kilm an hour so I don’t know what it was doing I thought I cannot drive at 100 km an hour it was at snail’s pace I thought no so I’ve changed it back now to normal and then we’re now going to charge up at ionity again uh in 93 km uh which is in the 48 minutes time and it say I only need to put up to 70% from 24% so we’ll see how that goes and then get back on the road again and then after that it takes me to uh another I ionity charger uh where I’ll only have 9% but take it up to 76% so there we go so it’s all planning it uh and it says we should get there at 818 Jeff’s going to get there a couple of hours before but I have spent quite a lot of time in the bathroom so it’s not really the fault of the car and I reckon because the next two charges are ionity again I’m going to absolutely annihilate him on cost I’m basically going to get down there for well way way cheaper than Jeff’s Car this is great and he’s even said I could have got if he was was in his diesel he wouldn’t have had really he may not have had a chance against me charging on ionity cuz it’s subsidized by [Music] Porsche right I don’t know what this is doing it’s changed a gain now it’s changed to a total energy charger which is 300 KW which is in 82 kilometers so I’m a little confused but we’re going to go with it cuz it’s saying now we’ll get there for 1 minutes past 8 which is quicker um but when we get there I do also need to charge so because I need as much charge as I can for tomorrow now I don’t know um because Jeff’s booked a hotel and he sent me the link I’m going to see whether they’ve actually got charge points or that is like a 4 hour difference yeah but the question is I’m going to have to stop to charge again because I need to charge for tomorrow so I’m ringing ahead now to ask you if you can ask reception if they have a charging point that I can charge overnight I have driven in the hotel car park and negatory I cannot see a charging point I’ll go have a look I’ll go have a look Scout yeah I’m pretty sure that’s a negative right because remember what Mar said she she will find a charging point a trickle Point somewhere where I could have charged overnight yeah yeah I mean there’s got to be there’s seriously questioning my Automotive choices in future you gave me a bit of I reckon that this car using the Porsche charging network using the actual navigation system to guide me to it and also charge faster as well cuz it was my stomach that’s made me later uh I reckon I reckon you’d be pushing it with a diesel to beat me on Coster this one I don’t think I could I was thinking about this because you’re always at 55 mph in some Contra flow or in some Road works or in reduced speed limit for air quality or something like this I’ve been at like3 km an hour for most of the way some of the time it’s 10 when you go around a few bendy bits but other than that 130 km an hour 80 M an hour and the roads are just flowing I mean look at it you got beautiful Greenery France you have got a they’re all directly off the main everything seems to flow we’ve said this before the service stations are just better in France and the charging network is better the only problem is the cost of petrol is quite High how much did you pay oh gosh um I I got fuel at the first possible opportunity after we left CA uh cuz I was running low and I put I put premium in and I put 60 quid I was like I’m not putting any more in 60 quid I’m not putting that cuz it was expensive it was over €2 look at his face it was over two2 for a liter and I thought I’d run it on premium it didn’t last me very long so then I then I I got down to uh 50 m odd range with my fuel light on yeah and then I was like right what I’m going to do now is I’m going to fill the tank right and this is the point when I phoned you and I couldn’t fill the tank because the card had a the the the petrol station had a €120 limit so I couldn’t even fill the tank we’re putting more than 1220 in your I’ve spent but I I have got I have got right now half a tank of fuel but I’m also fairly sure that’s how I started on the ferry and I’ve spent £180 on petrol oo this is going to be close then right because do you know what I spent go on right so have you got a calculator there no I’ve got a watch right okay don’t I feel like I’m not I feel like you’re leading me on I’m not going to need a calculator 6 11 to start with yeah 6 EUR 11 2440 yeah all right call that 30 quid okay 4166 that wasn’t an ion it want 70 quid and then 1936 so 90 quid is it 90 quid well that’s Euros I’m €90 which is about 70 quid yeah well I was working mine out in Euros as well so you’ve done about you’ve done €90 I’ve done €80 it’s cost me twice as much does that include the charge that you’ve put in now all the charge that’s in this battery now yeah really yeah so I’m full I’m about 80% what’s funny what’s funny as well is both times both on the ferry today when we started our cars we got the same range to start with and now we’re in the same boat for tomorrow so I’ve got probably exactly the same range as what you’ve got right now setting that petrol tank tomorrow I’m going to need if the prices are the same in Spain I think I’m going to put in roughly the same again tomorrow I’m going to try and be more calm I got a bit excited with that car all right but this is the thing right this is what you don’t get with an electric car I had a moment where I’m I’m just flying along right in in the fast linee people hate it when I call it the fast lane but I’m look at my face I’ve cheered I’ve cheered up because I’m telling you this story I’m flying along in the fast lane and a Porsche 996 is coming down the slip road to join the road yeah and I gun it and he guns it and then eventually he pulls up alongside me on my inside and he just looks over and he’s like yeah and then we both went for it did you win no it wasn’t a race it was just it was a mutual respect thing and I was just like and I was sat in my car and I was like because of everything Le’s done today your car is scrap my car is scrap let’s go and that’s what we did we had a moment but was that moment worth £80 no so it’s a draw early I win I win easily on price I do you know what like I I I don’t even see it as a draw I know this is only leg one of a twoleg not race I don’t even see it as a draw because the you can’t you cannot beat a petrol car on time in an EV no you can’t can’t but but but even the evangelists will say that so I’m but I’m but CU that was a given I’m not sure I can count that as a score for me so I’m I’m even happy to concede that this is a win for the EV but you know what what I think the biggest win is here right it’s for French roads and French infrastructure because yeah we’ve just done almost 600 miles yeah I’m pretty confident I could have carried on to benador I would have pulled into Milow I would have got some pizza by to eat maybe a coffee I could have carried on yeah and genuinely if I hadn’t booked my hotel I thought about doing you over I was like I’m I’m going to have him I’m going to let him actually when I went over the M bridge I thought I just just keep going yeah but the point is having spent all day in your car and done 575 miles I was looking for to some beers with you yeah yeah totally totally and and the hotel was booked and I was like no that’s what we’re doing but the point is I was at 5:00 I was like oh our dinner’s ready we’re com we coming that was the thing I was like I could carry on I’m not broken the roads have been fantastic there’s no lorries on the road in France on a Sunday which is what a God send that is oh you know no no poles no no Road Works no nothing nothing other than that little bit through Paris it was phenomenal strange weather
