good morning everyone today is Sunday the 19th of May and it’s a beautiful sunny day my face is smothered in Sun cream because it’s very hot and I don’t want to burn today I’m off to West Yorkshire to run calderdale whale relays get ready get into the position [Music] really [Applause] [Music] [Applause] I’m walking to get a lift to my leg which is leg five and it starts from way stalls I’m running with my partner Mick my leg five is about 7 5 mil long with approximately 1,100 FT elevation you have to run this relay in pairs for the safety reasons and there are six legs our leg one Runners have already started running they started at 8:00 and they sent me some videos them coming across some cows so good luck girls hi hello we’re just pausing for a minute our path is blocked Cale way relay is about 50 mil long in total which run runs along Cale way there are six legs of the relay starting from about 5 miles up to over 10 miles before my start everyone’s got a Batton in their hand they passing it on hold on turn on guys that’s the reason why I was talking about remember the big one as well you’re the one who saving my life today thanks watch out thank you your team is doing well you’re here to win today well done guys what leg were you all doing one all different legs well I’m supporting everyone that’s nice [Music] R oh that’s good ladies I like it tied with the ribbon really cool hold on look at you such a good idea got running with the ribbon because it’s a point topoint relay which means that we start and finish in different places a lot of people are car sharing so our leg five cooperates with leg six and we all go in one car Walkers right over there it the beginning of this event is in West Vale and it finishes in [Music] [Applause] [Music] Halifax oh Debbie well done debie and the partner yes debie when we finish our leg at the end of leg five we’re going to pick up a car that leg six Runners are going to leave for us and we’re going to drive to the end to Halifax I’m just trying to keep in the shade for now so I don’t overheat too early the B running club that organizes it is Halifax and it’s a brilliant event with Lads of teams taking part someone’s already cutting the grass F thing in the morning this year we have two teams from pres and harus we have men open team and the mixed team where you have six women and six men I’m running in the mixed team I’m still walking to get my lift to the place it’s about half 9 and I’ve just received a message from our a team leg one Runners that they already finished their leg slow down boys I’m not sure what I will be able to film today I’ll try to film like four or five change over before my mass start we will probably go in the mass start at 1:00 don’t girl and then maybe I will film a little bit in Halifax as well and whoever sends me any videos I will put them together in this one video as well that’s where I’m getting a lift from I’m already sweating dripping with sweat with only walking but it’s going to be a hard maybe I’m H because I had a big bag to carry can camp the whole two weeks with this bag so waiting for my now it’s going to be a good day my leg five was starting quite high up from the top of the mes ni beautiful The View down the valley was spectacular our leg six Runners dropped us off in the beginning of our leg leg five and then they drove the car to the starts of their leg leg six and the end of our leg leg five when we arrived at Wayne stalls like four five change over the first Runners from leg four have not finished their race yet but there were already loads of Runners from leg five who had already arrived to start their race and they were eagerly waiting in anticipation of the first runers and also registering the registration and the receiving of the numbers were just out out of the window of that silver car that we drove past I wonder which team is going to be the first leg full finishes passing on their button to like five finishes we’ll just have to wait and see but for now me and my running part make are going to receive our running numbers here we are in Wayne stalls at the start of leg five and the end of leg four there’s some more people from our team there’s Steve M Steve need them and Mick Mick is hiding somewhere where are you mick how you feeling about it I keep standing on you sorry how are you feeling about it Steve oh good ready to go ready to go leg six leg six have you done six leg six before never done it before but we heard it’s a rose on his like so we should be all right no no what you going to fine you’re always all good attitude it’ll be fine it’s fine we’ll be in the must follow okay no I’ve nothing well done good luck are you ready here they are the first finishes of leg four spoiler alert this team is going to be the overall winners too brilliant wel congratulations to Mighty Rosendale harus it was a very hot hum M day that’s why this young Runner is desperate to have some water on his head I’m going to show you some of the leg 4 five change over that I’ve managed to film before the mass start here we are let’s see who we’ve got at the start we’ve got illey rosand who’s just finished first well done Rosendale is it first time you’ve done this leg Yeah first time ever done oh wow brilliant well done like 35 4 minutes that’s so good and we have car The Valley Of course who are you guys what are your names Chris Chris and Luke and we’ve got either no wait let me say it’s car yes see I know Ian from Chon as well Carl’s partner Gavin somewhere isn’t it I don’t know where he is yeah and another people there’s lots of people oh there C Valley coming sorry for getting your names wrong twins are you Gavin Carl a I said it [Music] [Applause] wrong C Val fell Runners were the second finishers on leg four get ready get into the position IL harriers are practicing receiving a Batton dals are going to start running now the people are coming oh this two oh sorry onad on right right [Music] right welome w wolfdale harus were the third finishers on leg four followed by wolfdale number four on leg 45 change over were BARC fell [Applause] oners M look who’s waiting for you here at the end of leg four holy and some oh is five no in this relay all runners run in pairs and because it’s a relay as soon as leg four runners finish they pass the butaton to the runners on leg five and like five people Embark onto their Journey straight away every leg has a different course ideally the runners should be able to navigate their way along the course because the route is not marked they either wreck it beforehand together or go with someone who knows the route from Leg 3 in toaden the mass start times are implemented this is done so the Marshals are not subjected to waiting all day the M start times for L 3 is 11:00 L 4 12 and leg 5 1:00 so look who else is here at the start of leg five H HX D want to organize this relay one is hiding and these are the marshals that’s where they come from from leg lovely Marshals these are our 18 team leg five Runners here they are we wondering where you were [Applause] [Applause] you [Applause] this year’s Cale way Rel race was staged in memory of Pete white who conceived the idea of the race 39 years ago he was raised director for many years and sadly passed away in 2023 every year two weeks before the event Halifax harus organized guided rord around all the leg there’s some more Marshals from Halifax so many people at the start now what’s going on normally in my start there’s not so many people yeah and it’s hot is it that’s why yeah it always makes me very nervous standing around in one place in the crowd before my race that’s why I decided to walk a bit towards the finishing leg for on us well done H Fox well done they’re still carrying a Batton before my start everyone’s got a Batton in their hand is they passing it on hold onon on guys well done well done look at this what leg are you thank you which leg are you oh well done and you not had enough running still running cooling down well done Martin well done and quinbury hold done guys well done hold on kley hi ladies sh all right good luck [Music] girls boys [Applause] [Applause] our leg five M start was at 1:00 this meant that everyone left over at 1:00 from leg five had to start the race even if their leg four runners from the same team hadn’t finished yet therefore in the M start no button would be passed on between the runners leg five M start was from this field over the fence across the road from where like four runners finish was because it’s coming up to near 1:00 the majority of people are getting together at the must start field soter you just finished oh you’re running in this one this oh okay I thought you finished good luck what’s that team called that they’re running now what are they you know Deb or something however some leg forerunners are still finishing so they’re like five Runners set off minutes and seconds before the mass start which gives them a great motivation to keep pushing and run away from the upcoming chasing crowd of the M it smells some Mick yeah near h f who’s stord Lions H Stanford Lions where are they near Wigan HX H Fox oh yeah oh this is my favorite part before the starts all this acrobatics all this acrobatics before the start you know Pilatus you’ve done yours these two are the final people who managed to start before the mass start done girl and finally this is our leg five M start I’m going to take you along the route of leg five which starts in way stalls and finishes in shelf this leg is 7.5 mil long with approximately 1,100 FT elevation I filmed all the main bits of leg five while I was running so you can see what this leg is like a little tip for the future references if you start in the M start here run as fast as you can so you don’t get stuck in the queue to get through the narrow Gates and styles over the fences and walls leg five terrain is quite traily in the dry weather you don’t even need to wear fell shoes to run it you can get away with wearing trail shoes with mild grip sorry M I got stuck in that F not because of this because of the first one come on people let’s go the route starts quite high up in the mes and goes Past Farms Fields Rolling Green Hills Woodland areas little streams and a occasionally some roads through the villages there it’s just a massive queue of people can see them quite often you have to run on these very narrow overgrown paths sometimes in between two walls or fences quite grown up there now must be dying imagine how hot there no I would also call it the Great Barrier leg a lost count how many styles and Gates we had to go over that’s the reason why I was talking about remember the big one as well [Music] by the way for those who might not know a style is a way to get over a wall styles to me look like little fairy portals in the walls beautiful [Music] [Music] I’m done it’s a beautiful Reservoir by the way here on the left there are little hidden steps in the wall coming up watch out for it you’re oh yes thank you problem thank you that’s perfect not jelly babies but that’s the best it’s coming up now don’t miss this hidden turning on the left sorry that’s okay can you check this please here’s another narrow overgrown passage between the walls that’s the bit I was trying to remember Mick this one a lot of the times the 50 m Cale way circuit in West Yorkshire goes along the historic parked horse route which dates back to the times before the Industrial Revolution when the parked horses carrying wool were taken over the top of the MOs to get to their destination in some places you can still see their Trail on the Stone paths all quaint little Stone Bridges apart from wool Park horse roads were used for carrying cotton finished cloth salt lime coal and other Goods they were like trade roads over The Valleys quite often the public right of way stayed in those places where the Historic Park horse route used to be but people built new houses around those paths therefore in some places they now go through people’s Gardens you’re running through the garden there a well there someone else’s B Garden Oh done all six legs of the relay make up the 50 m circular route of calale way in tottal this circular route in West Yorkshire is also used for high hiking Challenge and ultra running the official start is in West Vale even though it could be started at any point the total cadel way passes through several settlements including Renton manin hols toddm hepton stall holsworth Wayne stalls shelf brick house as well as as sense the mighty studly Pike on leg two this year about 100 teams took part each team had 12 Runners so it’s around 1,200 runners in total taking part in this event there were different team categories such as open ladies mixed half ladies Half Men vets open that ladies 40 plus Etc I’m going to insert a link for the results in the description below by this point I was really really hot I can withstand all the weathers storm hail rain freezing weather but my body doesn’t handle heat very well it’s as if it switches me off and makes all my veins swell up I’m rubbish in the heat [Applause] house ready for the pill well done ah behind you hi you’re the one who’s saving my life today thanks watch out thank [Music] you must be roasting and legging hello [Music] good to see [Music] you your team is doing well you’re here to win today well done guys what leg were you all doing one all different legs well done supporting everyone that’s nice r imag they are they were there filming us Queensbury that’s where Queensbury is now I know where it is I’m not just seen the vest I know where they [Music] [Music] are downhill now nice I hope there’s no cows this time not M at all Mick [Music] [Music] them oh the cows are there [Music] [Music] some Asal hi St for Lions we’re behind you again like before leg three this some more stain for Lions here we meet again hi oh there the doggy and another one like a bear he stay for his life again two years ago we were running behind you and your partner on leg three what’s your name oh yeah I remember yes and by this point there have been so many twists and turns on our way that I couldn’t keep it all in my memory that’s why I’m glad I recorded major parts of it on film for the future references [Music] some horses don’t go straight ahead here turn right oh God me [Music] only I don’t remember this bit at all I don’t remember this like what is it I think you my fingers started shaking I know you B today I’m sorry I forgot your name my heart is breaking [Applause] [Applause] it’s a nice pop here they finished like 5 have we finished like 5 I’m done done ladies oh that’s good ladies I like it tied with the ribbon look at that Mick that’s what we should have done you’ll be everywhere look how cool that is really cool 52 hold done look at you such a good idea got running with the ribbon after we finished our leg five our leg six Runners left the car for us at the end of our leg and the starts of their leg in shelf then we drove it from shelf to Halifax where the end of the relay was at Halifax harus spring Hall Sports ground no SP in there boy there’s no spaces here this is going here oh yeah yeah yeah why did it say why did it say there’s no spaces there spaces here perfect make perfect hello hi Arron well done you oh yeah yeah true yeah yes it is I saw this Arron runner at Debbie’s birthday party the day before that nice yeah this is Nick he used to organize this fell realiz what’s your last name small small yeah so now he’s waiting for the runners taking pictures of them easy easy job I only managed to film a few teams at the end of leg six and all the hustle and bustle at the Finish where the runners from many legs came to meet their teammates let’s just leave this footage running for a little bit without much of a commentary toerge ourselves into the atmosphere our leg six Runners haven’t finished yet so we’re expecting them anytime soon they smell my sandwiches at them [Music] [Music] at the end in Halifax every Runner of each leg could get some food this time it was sandwiches crisps and a chocolate bar by the way every Runner got the Slate coaster as a momento as well uhoh wrong it’s a nice truck here here you can see Runners who already finished their legs some dressed in normal human clothes assembling together and discussing over a glass of beer how their race went while at the same time watching like six Runners suffering finishing the race [Music] and now these are our leg six Runners approaching the Finish Line hey well done be the be the 18 well done the staves oh Debbie well done Debbie and the partner yes Debbie the Night Before the Race I went to Debbie’s birth the party she was a bit apprehensive about running leg six because it’s Terrain is not very fly more suited for road runners but she did great I didn’t mean on the canal and these are some of our Preston Harries Runners who came to Halifax at the end of leg six before this Mammoth video comes to the end enjoy watching a few more teams coming to the end of leg six where their sweaty suffering ands [Applause] [Music] [Applause] yeah where the food trackers where is that should go there again [Applause] you [Applause] [Music] true give [Music] time sir
