welcome back to the channel everybody I’m Remy metay a professional mountain biker and I love chatting about risk management how to ride your bike better and safer and today well I just demonstrated everything you should never do on your mountain bike let’s get going [Music] Yahoo yes [Music] yipp wo [Music] [Applause] okay uh this is pedaling no it’s downhill oh cool f yeah I like this very much from where you live man [Applause] yeah W that was sick good job yeah that’s awesome yeah yeah jump couple drops and jumps coming up sick I like that right this is epic that good fun and the community here is awesome like seeing everybody like sh and good rolling yeah yo nice that was fun that good yeah oh boys yes yes okay I’m going to redo that little section of trail with my GoPro Max cuz that was a ton of fun you okay [Applause] SE feel everything is good I at my leg this was a worst mistake I’ve ever done as you can see with this line you come off this awesome diving board up here rail this corner Remy was going so fast he uh thought the trail went straight where it turns you see his breake Marks here he’s trying to save himself landed somewhere down here and that horrible noise you heard you got super lucky not striking that tree but holy cow that is all right holy moly what is that yo we just forever got our Remis scar in this tree now dude wow that wasn’t early Monday as well my like worst mistake I’ve ever done like trying to ride fast without properly checking the trail I I could have totally avoided that R the first section and then I was just going to cruise the bottom and for whatever reason I felt the need to go really fast and H the BM and didn’t think that the trail was turning left I’d wrden it before but I wasn’t paying attention and yeah literally went on the wrong side of the trail and I often have that nightmare where I forget where the trail is and I jump missing the trail and that’s exactly what I did today like somehow I’m like fairly uh okay I definitely charos my leg destroyed my brand new phone iPhone 15 Pro uh obviously I didn’t takes the app care cuz I’m like I never break fun so why would I so need the new fun also cuz doesn’t work and I need it for walk so right think my ankle is okay let’s see your thigh a man and the phun took the impact I don’t know might have some glass in there too from the fun jeez literally Tree in your stem that was man that could have been a lot worse I’m glad you’re upright yeah five hours of sleep jet lagged shouldn’t have redone my bikes over I just did but thank you so much for novan Community really helping out building great Trails just takes a good Rider to ride correctly a train can’t blame it on the train but yeah what do you say we go soak in some tubs up at the canvas yeah we’re going to have a good canvas and um they mentioned there some good food some good wine son now Co plch so I think I’m going to do that while you ride and you get the footage for me yeah I think you earned a glass of wine tonight give me some of that bro okay yeah so we get this bike we get everything sorted for him into the car probably there we have a than you yeah you take bike I take my okay dude just drove for 4 hours now we’re boating I don’t even know what to say this is wicked Jeff and I are making our way to canva canv is right there it’s one of The Lodges that norona owns and people can rent it to spend some really good times mountain biking trail running hiking having some good food going into the cold water there’s some hot tub Sona I think it’s going to be really good even though I can’t ride but guess what I’ll be back next year I’m going to get uh some footage for you so to enjoy and have a an idea of uh what we’re about to do here yeah we traveled all around the country they’re getting air time they’re rotting features and skinnies far off the ground and it was just far different from anything i’ ever seen before well once someone has taken the risk to do it first being second or third to do it you lower the risk by so much [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] okay neutral position ready position slow yes make your corner look ahead look where you want to go very slow yeah was good you want to go even slower okay you want to basically come to a stop right here okay look where you want to go go very slow go very slow yeah that was great compress lift bounce yes that was good remember your hips yeah compress lift bounce [Music] yes cheers well that was a bit of a tough start of my trip in Norway as you saw had a bit of a UI and uh fortunately I’m not doing too bad uh I just charos my leg really bad um but other than that didn’t have any proper injury I got extremely lucky my level of uh focus and energy wasn’t there to be riding this fast I wasn’t thinking straight didn’t properly analyze the trail or even look where I was going just made a poor judgment and uh yeah I think it’s pretty funny how I just made a video about helmets and uh here I am a few days later adding head first onto a tree so by the way big shout out to specialize for the helmet this is the Ambush when I crashed I had my tactic uh which I no longer have because I hit the tree out enough that had to replace the helmet also camel back for the chest vest having the bladder full of water in my back really protected uh my body when I hit the ground I landed on my back so that was I was good to have and also shout out to JV gich as well as a norian crew for helping me out to get out of the forest I couldn’t really walk uh my leg was basically a bit dead so anyway I want to tell you why I came down to Norway so as you know I’m now riding for NOA this is the shoton collection and I’ve been loving their product I became actually a huge fan of the brand when I Reed the product the stuff is pretty incredible uh some of the jacket that I have really really pleased with you know the entire line and not just mountain biking basically every other product even the shorts uh that I use for running that I use for the gym all that stuff has been incredible and yeah I wanted to come down and check out the headquarters which I did so that was awesome we had a few meeting with the design team uh Jeff and I also did a presentation about our career in front of the Loyalty customers we checked out some of the I guess history of NOA even the restaurant it was awesome and following that the plan was to go to Canvas which we did I was supposed to ride my bikes though but uh yeah I couldn’t bend my legs so all I did was spending some quality time on the Sona C plch hot tub and the food was incredible if you know me personally you know that my favorite thing in the world it’s not riding my bike but it’s eating so I was really happy down there and I definitely would be going back this time with my bike to do some of the riding it’s uh yeah if you are in Europe definitely worst checking it checking this place out it’s awesome it’s all inclusive you got the food the recovery the biking all trail running even hiking I wasn’t biking and honestly I had a fantastic time so if you go with your partner and uh they are not into biking it’s okay you can still take them and uh you’ll have you’ll have an amazing time and uh now we are in MDA by the f I don’t know if you can see the F behind me is at the ocean coming in land and this place is beautiful Jeff and I have met up with Thomas one of the Nora Ambassador here in Norway and we are just uh doing some marketing content so shooting some of the collection and uh yeah it’s been incredible I’m going to put some of the footage right now for you to enjoy and uh hopefully I’ll be back in Norway soon to make uh to make some some more videos because I’ve been really enjoying that country andj enjoy thank you okay dropping that’s sick for that was sick good first skting have messed up on this TR yeah I did it woo right yeah oh no no yeah no no no [Music] a me I was going so slow I stuffed my front wheel and I slow motion on TV you okay I’m okay I’ve done exactly the same that was a that was a stopper right there no French turn for me French turn for me almost other one thank you everyone for watching the video If you enjoyed it please make sure you subscribe to the channel leave me a like and a comment no way was incredible but I have one more video 1. That was gnarly! I skipped ahead every time you played the crash… I’m so glad you’re ok!

Do you have any advice for getting past the anxiety after a big crash like that? I feel like I always ride extra timid after a crash which seems to just make me ride worse.

    2. So glad you're ok. Wow, one miscalculation. It happened to me 7 weeks ago, broken rib, shattered hand, surgery and lots of rehab. Top quality trail helmet saved my head

    3. first off I;m glad your good. Second, that place looks amazing. Last those ridge drops are next level sketchy, but sooo unbelievable .

    4. Glad to see you ok after that incident! I know you are a pro rider but please be safe out there so you can keep making awesome videos.

    5. Thanks for this great video, this place looks amazing. Glad you're OK (so does the tree 😅), and thanks for showing and explaining how crashes can happen to anyone and how to analyse them.

    6. this is what we mean when we say;" it can happen to the best of us" Remy is very careful about the risks he takes yet all it takes is a stupid moment. Get well soon

    7. That could easily have been a career ender and you were extremely lucky you literally walked away from that one on your won feet. Glad it turned out like this Remy! And watching the footage 99,9% of riders would not have walked away. You still retained a certain level of control during a potentially catastrophic crash and managed to just edge your head right of the tree and using your stem as kind of a ram to get you past the tree. The reaction may have been subconcious but it saved your life! Apart from that an awesome place to ride! And I'm with you on the Norrona stuff, use it for years, especiall in winter and love it!

    8. Hey Remy, thank you for uploading this. I would rate you as one of the most skilled riders on the planet, and I think so would your peers, so this video serves as a great reminder to take safety seriously as even the top guys can come unstuck from time to time. Following your advice and example over the last few years has made me a safer, and faster rider and I ALWAYS check the track first now if it is unfamiliar tech.

    9. Remy hope your ok after what looked a painfull off. I am so pleased you accepted it was rider error rather than trying to blame something else. it just goes to show even top pro's get it wrong. keep up the great work and sharing the love of mtbing

    10. Note to natural trail builders, try bulld allowing for error. I see so many poorly thought out trails that could be made so much safer and just as fast fun challenging with just a bit more effort put into risk reduction.
We often see high speed jumps that have a trajectory between two trees narrowly separated. Trees vs skulls, trees win

    11. 🇺🇸Brother Remy, please rest, enjoy the spoils of riding, vacay maybe ??? I had mines to not recently but awhile ago, nine fractured ribs, missed Jump receiving end but, No one, can ride like you, reLAx cuz . . ..we want to continue to see ya❤️much Love & Peace may be unto your Home 💖 🇺🇸

    12. Dude i can play all your future videos in 2x speed it that helps saving your life. Slow down its not worth it for clicks.

    13. What led up to this I have seen many times, others any myself do. You get into such a hyper mood on a trail you are not familiar with. That you forget safety and what can go wrong. It feels amazing until something happens. And it''s always when with others – as they help get that stoke mode going. Of course we should ride with others and get stoked – it's awesome. But we must calm ourselves down and remember the dangers. Sometimes get the odd warning you are overcooking it, but often not! Here when you did it on your own, that was a big step up in risk. Now following experienced riders of that trail. You were having such a great time you forgot that. We need to maybe set an alarm to beep every 20 mins to remind us to take stock of risks! And think before each ride what each risk could be for that.

    14. Well shared! so important for us mere mortals to see the behind the scenes preparation, risk calculation and, ultimately how even the best in the world can end up on the wrong side of it. Easy to forget this when I focus on the highlight reels! Remy is an incredible rider!

    15. Remy, wow you have to slow down on uncharted territory.
The drop was a bad situation. Glad you were not broken.
      Take care and stay well

    16. Get well soon! I completly understand about jetlag/sleep/being tired. For me, it's much worse than being drunk
All my nasty falls, had all that same issue.
Stopped riding when tired/fatigue/no sleep/jetlag, and things transformed to really positive riding
