um I think he he enjoyed being back on the back on the bike and uh I just sent him a message to as a friend I was wondering how he was doing you know um and he said that yeah he he suffered quite a lot and he wasn’t he wasn’t expecting to suffer so much he also said it in an interview um after the after the stage to Belgium press so yeah it’s uh I I I told him he shouldn’t forget where he comes from you know like he he he’d been on the in the hospital for a for a few days broken broken R ribs broken collar bone he’s he’s still he’s still in reab actually so uh he’s this is technically still rehab yeah this is not he’s not there to to win races so he’s there to to try and make another step towards towards future goals and where wherever they might be that was some big injuries too like broken sternum is a really significant injury and you know in a sport like ours where you just you breathing so much everything that he broke needs to be moving and I can you told us that he’d been saying that he’s often in more pain post ride than he is during it because of sort of almost the the stretching of all those injured body parts go through during a race yeah and then also the first time racing again you can do all the training you want but we all know as soon as you start racing that somebody else puts up the tempo and you need to try and follow it and on training you can uh you put up the tempo yourself and if it hurts a little bit you can always take take take off a little bit of gas so um I think during this week we will uh we will see how uh how good his recovery has been so far I’m not going to make light of his injuries it’s quite nice as he gets to feel how the rest of us do because if you look at the end of the stage well if you look at the end of the stage yesterday there was only about 25 30 guys left when he um dropped out of the main even then he dropped out of think in part because there was an overlap of wheel so he lost a load of speed on the final clim towards the Finish but certainly 2third of the p on at least probably three quarters had already been pinged off the back by the time art started to feel it in his legs we’ve talked about the physical aspect of his comeback did did he say anything at all about the psychological side of things how it feels for him being back in the bunch these risks that are just part and parcel of being a professional bike racer and how he felt being back in a pelaton after this much time off after a really nasty crash well we really we didn’t really talk about that part of uh um yeah of his return but I think it’s quite uh um you think about it before racing but during racing it yeah you kind to go go on with it just because it’s it’s part of it kind of um you mentioned briefly this is rehab essentially towards future goals and we know that he was originally supposed to be riding racing the Jed Italia can we hope in any way that he might be including now the T to France as one of those future goals I think he belongs there he’s among the the five best riders in the world so he belongs in the T to France but he’s just after this week I think the tour of Norway will tell us a lot uh about how he is doing and uh I think also so he needs to make the choice do I want to go to the tour to France even though I might not be 100% because that’s the highest level in cycling he’s used to winning stages in the tour def France he can be an asset to to our team so U yeah I’m I’m I’m curious yeah it’s difficult isn’t it he’s not just used to winning stages he’s used to winning all kinds of stages at the Trad of France he’ll want to be at that level I think many neutral fans certainly would love to see him back at the Trad of France but the rehab at least for w v art is going well so far

    1. Broke my sternum when i was knocked off my MTB into a tree.
It was brutal pain for 8 weeks or so but the worst part for me was a i developed a frozen shoulder which was truely soul destroying for 12 months.
I hope to see WVA back to his best as soon as he can.

    2. Wva at tour 24 wins four stages, and green jersey, and most aggressive rider

At worlds 24, wva wins road race, tt podium

At oly, wva wins tt, podium road

      At vuelta 24 wva podium

Wva wins cyclist of year 2024

    3. Wva leg injury at tour from that stupid prong sticking out from fence put up by aso on rt hand turn was worse injury that the long list of recent injuries of sdr ribs sternum

He came back from the hat massive leg injury from that gruesome tour crash.

From these current injuries he will come back as well. And excel again. He’s that tough. He’s a resolute determined unflagging athlete.

    4. I broke my collarbone in a bike crash about 10 yrs ago… and it STILL hurts sometimes… especially on / after long rides. The fact that he is competing in PRO races just a few weeks after crashing that hard is amazing… and honestly, probably ill-advised. I'd rather see him take a YEAR off from racing… and just focus on healing and rehab–and maybe even other goals in other areas of his life.

    5. What other bike rider can win up mount ventoux, time trial, Champs-élysées stages while pulling team mates all day chasing back or being break aways ? Talking tdf 2021 . He just astounded me that yr . 2022 three seconds in first 3 stages wins stage 4 and 8, second stage 15, 3rd stage 18, wins the Tt stage 20 to take the green and combatant award. 5 in the mountains classification, and 21 over all. I hope he gets back to that form again . Not saying this yr but hopefully.
