The Northumberland Nightshift – a 300km audax.

301km cycling event starting from Morpeth. Controls at Berwick Upon Tweed, Hawick, Newcastleton and Morpeth., plus 4 information controls.

For those who like a little night ride, a 10.30pm start, expect to ride the first half of the event in the dark. A (very) X-Rated basic event, Roadside start and finish at Cafe in Morpeth.

You will need to be prepared to ride sections of up to 100km with no facilities. This is an event intended for those who are capable of riding extended distances at night and being self sufficient.

Currently facilities are a 24 hour petrol Station with shop or a McDonalds in Berwick upon Tweed.

Newsagents in Hawick from 6.00am, Petrol station from 6am, shops from 7am

By the time you get to Newcastleton the shop will be open and for most the bakery/cafe will be open (tbc). The route goes through Bellingham on the way back from Newcastleton so there should be shops or cafes open by the time most people get there. There’s a bit of a climb after Bellingham but after that it’s mainly downhill back to finish at The Pavilion Café in Carlisle Park in Morpeth. Sounds easy!

hey folks how you do it it’s Richie fun B back in Adventures Spain is a distant memory away here we are gathered in a l by in the middle of the now no fbl and actually to be exact we 300 km odax the uh nor fumbling night shift this is the weekend of the dirty rever as well to put things in some kind of perspective I see more lights arriving starts half 10 it about 20 pass now uh and it’s bloody freezing can tell you dressed for winter riding that’s what it is anyway let’s see what goes on uh there’s going to be about 100K self-sufficient riding from nowhere open so uh got a gingers sandwich energy bars gels couple water bottles so we a gate crashed the local McDonald’s got the coffee bacon do cheeseburger L [Music] Fri back on the way must be uh getting pretty close to 5:00 I turn the camera around you should see the Hue of blue sky on the horizon as a new day breaks so uh at the moment heading west towards Kelo F there into newcastleton this is all in the uh SK brsh borders uh stopping there at the Olive Tree Cafe for [Music] breakfast and then sorry I’m blinding you any through CER forest for anybody that’s new to my channel I’ll drop a link call the screen to me taking part in the dirty Reaver this time last year where I met Kat Caba my to speak to her several times during the day we even shared a spot on the car park cing right next to each other it wasn’t as cold as it is today but it was a lot wetter so I know which I prefer crisp and cold as you can see it’s light it’s coming up to 6:00 in the morning sun will be rising soon start to uh heat up a little bit I’m sure somebody will let me know down in the comments below how cold it has been overnight there has not been an air Frost so the roads have remained uh frost free however definitely a ground Frost and uh I’ve been wearing extra gloves for this one so I’ve got fingerless gloves got mitts and um I’ve been wearing Lobster gloves as well just taking them off an update I’m about 130k in I’ve done some information controls the last one the last one has snon needs to know the opening and closing times that’s not the right word the first three the last dely at the post box is winon so I just remember that and the next one is 50k away in haywick and then next one after that another 25k at new Castleton I’m expecting I’ll reach there sometime between 9 and half pass had a thought depends if I can just keep on moving it’s you know it’s not stopping weather it’s pretty cold so you know to keep the legs moving so before then I will be passing through passing through uh Kelo I know I’ve got no idea about elevation but suffice to say haven left the coast it’s just continued to climb all the time and gradual very very gradual but yeah I’m not quite sure where the highest point in the B is it’s uh somewhere between Kelo and Newcastle to I think [Music] put in some uh caffeine plus electrolytes in the water I come out on this ride without any Shamy cream as well got to bring any well I’ve had an idea um it’s dirty Reaver today so the event Village will be there till uh quite late in the day so I figured we’re probably going to sell sham cream in the event Village so I might just pop me facing beautiful spot around here though just on the other side of Hy haywick or harck or whatever it’s called which is here in newcastleton uh the next less than 20 miles now it’s half uphill half downhill I remember after dirt reav last year on the Sunday I went out for a ride to Kelo and um on the way back there was a descent which unfortunately we’re not doing and it was kind of one of the best desense I’ve been I’ve had I had at the time in the UK it was amazing if I can find the route I’ll uh hit in the comments below can’t believe I’m so dressed like this thinking I’d be a to take me full sleeve jersey off put short sleeve jersey on I doubt that’s going to happen today right according to the Garin it’s 180k done so I think it’s about 26 K Newcastle 2 from here it’s about an hour and a bit right more than halfway up this hill it it’s a baby to be fair 116 M over 3 km typical Scottish climb really just nice and gradual uh anyway at this Junction I think that is the way I went for that Epic climb it’s uh same Pur as a bon cter Bridge so first Junction I come to could be wrong but I’m following the sign for New Castle to which apparently is only four miles that way I thought it be a bit more than that I’m not complaining like I just stopped to Vehicles I’m weing too many layers now snood is coming off my mitt are coming off and uh these arm warmers are coming off I probably all with a start again but hopefully it won’t be so cold he says he hopes [Music] [Music] [Music] up again new Caston is probably still about 2 miles away and uh the temperature is positively shut up it’s some real so uh switch kits it’s kind of a little bit annoying though because I got full sleeve jersey in there it’s a little bit awkward I might have to try and work out how to wrap it around the handb or something I don’t know got know where to put it uh will it squeeze into an empty water bottle I don’t know probably but I might need two empty water bottles for the way back I know first world problems [Music] oh [Applause] [Music] [Music] so outside the olve tree here in New Caston didn’t film anything inside I just had something to eat and uh ready to go again Smokey barbecue burger rainbow cake and a Americano nice and full now so heading towards well last 100 here to go so I’m going to U going through Bellingham so I’m going stop the co-op there grab something to eat so I’ve turned the corner to point towards kilder beautiful around here somewhere on the dirty Reaver in 2020 2 W Camp up here is beautiful as much as I love visiting the Peak District it’s a big world isn’t it he is not quite as a challenging challenging yes but not quite so challenging I can see the uh Skyscape OB on the hill there this area is popular for what they call Dark Skies been a to see in the Milky Way just a lack of light pollution up here big skies and I bet I bet under the right conditions you can see the uh Aurora boreales sure I’ll pronounce it more or less right all right not far to Dr fingers crossed we’ve got some Shamy cream so here at the markers of uh the Scottish borders and England and as you can see one side of the Stone perfect wild camping conditions on the other side yeah no wild camping allowed this side thank you very much success I went to the laco stall and they had one pot to shami cream left and uh didn’t cost me a penny just gave me here all right find somewhere quiet now hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah I Dred on the floor it may well be that riding through kill the water is the uh most interesting thing left in today’s ax not entirely sure how far uh Bellingham is away from here but uh that’ll be an opportunity to well get some water get some juice get some energy drink cuz there’s a co-op there Happy Days last climb of this uh 300 km odax number nine well left Bing in not too long ago crossed over that bridge which got repaired the last couple of years and now couple basted lumpy bits to get
