Liam and Simon are here with some hard-to-spot tech that’s apparently being used by riders to prepare for the Tour de France. Add that to what looks like a bangin’ bargain of a road bike, a road race helmet that won’t break the bank and the first innovative bar tape in years, and you’ve got a packed edition of Tech of the Month.
But would you spend so much money on a body temperature sensor? Let us know in the comments.

welcome back to Tech of the month today we’ve got a bargain Arrow Road helmet and we’ll be looking at the first Bape innovation in years there’s also a bit of hidden Pro training Tech that we’ve got our hands on and it might just help recreational Riders to train for a cycling trip or even just a big event I’ve got Simon in the studio to discuss that super cool Tor France Tech in just a minute but first let’s start with a sub 2000 carbon road bike which is in for [Music] testing that’s right this is the van rol NCR decathlon’s latest sporty endurance and general riding bike and it looks like pretty good deal yeah for under £2,000 you’re getting a carbon frame set with 35 mm of clearance for tubless ready hutchingson tires it’s also got a wireless 1 Byram Apex access drivetrain for simple shifting it also looks very upgrad thanks to sensible standards like a non-integrated front end and it’s 27.2 mm seat post I have to say that if this rides well in testing it’s going to be an excellent entrylevel road bike so the group set of choice here it’s a really good one in my mind you’ve got a one by setup with a 46 to chain ring paired to an 11 to 44 to cassette yeah and so that should give you you know a good spread of gears for climbing as well as fast Road riding it’s also a really simple system pretty good for beginners now mavic provides the wheels while Hutchinson complete those with a tubless ready setup with a set of 28mm fusion 5 tires now these are branded Wheels which is great but they are a little bit heavy at just over 1,900 G which is a little bit weighty but for the money hard to complain I have to say if I bought this the wheels would be the first candidate for an upgrade just to something a bit lighter yeah now kind of key Rivals for this bike are going to be things like the giant def fire Advance free which is £ 2,299 as well as canyons in ACF at £ 1,949 it’s also the marid sculture endurance at £2,250 now we did price UK prices only there unfortunately this isn’t yet available in the US hopefully it will be there soon and the rivals the dollar pricing is a bit different now the only issue that I can see right now is a lack of mugard so Jack Luke will be watching this he’ll be screaming at his television cuz those are just really useful you know for year round riding especially when this bike has plentiful clearance bit of a strange emission yeah absolutely we’ll have to see how it does when we get it tested but what do you think let us know down in the comments and now we come to some pretty hard to spot Tor of France Tech that you might not have heard about if you already know about these things then well kolos to you because a lot of the World Tour pelaton have been quietly using these things to train for hot summer racing yeah that’s right now core claims that this body temperature sensor is being used by roughly 97% of teens which seems like an oddly specific number but there you go now there are 10 officially sponsored teams while the rest are apparently buying the tech in for their Riders and coaches to use so CA device is the company claims the most accurate non-invasive body temperature sensor on the market non-invasive means that it Clips to your heart rate monitor strap or sticks to your skin rather than being swallowed or put in an orifice obviously there are obvious advantages for not having that now I assume Liam that you will be testing this versus the accuracy of an internal body temperature sensor right I will not absolutely not uh that is a little bit convoluted for us to do sure now it will connect via ENT Plus or Bluetooth to your kind of generic cycling computer like a gin or a wahoo and this will allow you to see your internal body temperature while riding and that data cond we analyze post ride through apps like training Peaks and Golden cheetah the fun stuff however is what these things are claimed to do for you now Simon I’m definitely not an expert in this field but there are apparently two benefits to tracking your body temperature and doing some very sweaty training yeah that’s right now firstly you can train your body to deal better with hot weather now if you’re living in England that might not seem like a particular priority but if you have a big race or event coming up in the summer then you can get your body adapted before you go yeah absolutely for a pro Rider that might mean that you can put your top performance out on a very sweltering day in the Alps for us slightly more recreational riders that heat training might just get you through a big day without heat related issues yeah but I think the kind of second and potentially more interesting benefit is that core has told us that heat training can stimulate higher blood hemoglobin yeah which might just help bump up your FTP making you even speedier right and in terms of price this thing isn’t what we’d call cheap it’s going to set you back around £230 or $285 is a bit of an investment but will heat acclimatization be kind of next big training Focus for pros and amateurs who knows who knows it’s not common for us to feature two products from a single brand but this helmet is just so good and we had to talk about it we’ve both been using this not this exact one but I think it’s worth starting with price Top End Road helmets are really rather expensive the S Works evade is what 250 quid Cass Utopia is 245 and the abis Game Changer 260 yeah but get this this is an aor Road helmet being raced in the world tour right now and it won’t break the bank it’s just 90 that’s right not 290 not 190 90 yeah so we’ve both been wearing it and you I believe are reviewing this yeah that’s right I’ve been testing it for the last few weeks and you generally I’ve been really really impressed I mean first off you know it it kind of the build quality doesn’t feel cheap you know the kind of the kind of outside of the shell wraps all the way around the bottom of the EPS foam which is really good it’s very comfortable got a very nice fidlock Buckle it has sunglasses ports you know they’re kind of like it’s obviously got a very it’s you know we haven’t wind tunnel tested this but it does have a kind of similar Arrow shape to what you would expect from a kind of highend Road helmet it’s pretty incredible what you’re getting for the money really mine stood up well I flew to Jona with mine in my bag it’s come out unscathed it also went through some very rainy gravel rides out there and it still looks fresh which is really really nice I don’t think this is Flawless you know I I do think that there are better ventilated area helmets out there you know you mentioned the specialized of aade 3 for example and the abis Game Changer 2 I think that the kind of vents on here being located off to the side means you don’t get that big onrush of air flow over your kind of forehead as you do with those other ones you know I’m really nitpicking and I think on a 90 lb helmet it’s really really hard to complain so apparently there is a myips version of this but I can’t see it on the cathlon site for sale so we’re not sure on the price on that I have actually spotted it on the C yeah no I had to Google it but I did find it and it’s going to be £10 more so well there you go you know you can have you can have it with or without £10 this the price difference it’s pretty impressive so yeah I’m going to be w up my review soon so look out for the full review of this helmet on bik r.com very soon when we first saw this at par Ru I said that I’d get it in for Tech of the month and I’m a man of my word this is PR logo’s really cool new bartape which features a 3D printed surface I’m a big fan of some bartape tech because let’s be honest there’s not been much going on here since lizard skins arrived on the scene Simon we we differ on opinion on this what what are you saying about this so I think so so just this has got PR logos kind of CPC texture which is like little kind of 3D printed volcanoes I just think it’s a weird texture like I said like in the last video it kind of gives me the heie GVS now in terms of cost this does set you back a rather expensive £43 but is that for one side or do you get both for that for both sides uh progo does say that it’s extremely wear resistant well I’d hope so you wouldn’t want it to be wearing out um Simon can I wrap your your bars with this no you absolutely can’t I think you know I can see some advantages like I’m not a cyclist who likes to wear gloves so I do think having a kind of grippy bar tape is important and I you know if you live somewhere hot and it’s sweaty and you you know you you find your kind of hand slipping on the bars this could be a good option and yeah if it is as kind of as durable as progo says and that does obviously help to offset some of the cost as well so well we did get a few sets into the office so would you like to see a review of this if you do like this video and we’ll get right on it if you like the look of that van Ral bike then why not check out the one which the pros are using in the world tour this year that video will be just up there remember as always to drop a like on this video subscribe to the channel and we will see you next time

£2000 is now ‘entry level’?? Marvellous. 😂
Secret TDF tech? I’ve had one of these for two years now, I assure it is not a secret.
Curtains and BeardLineWithARuler over here tryna tell me that £90 for a helmet is cheap.
No helmet should cost more than $100. If you’re wearing a $300 helmet you are just paying for branding.
