Following Tadej Pogačar going a WHOLE WEEK without winning, before predictably, winning, we ask if he’ll continue this form all the way to Nice in July and double up with victory at the Tour De France – a feat last achieved by the great Marco Pantani in 1998.

Plus Sam Bennet is back to winning ways, Demi Vollering took the GC victory in Burgos, a lucky escape for Jenthe Biermans and much more in the latest GCN Racing News Show!

coming up on this week’s racing news show Durant Thomas defends his second place at the jro as pagat continues to ride away with pink Sam Bennett is back to winning ways Demi voling to the GC victory in Burgos and we ask if it’s too early to think about paga winning the tour so Pacha is a man in pink but who wore it better I say Sam Bennett at the four days of done Kirk last week Bennett was almost as dominant as pataa at that race too more on that later though first though we learned that batea himself went a whole week without winning anything the middleweek of the geod Talia concluded yesterday with a queen stage to lavinho that had more altitude gain than any stage of a grand tour over the last four years huge days in the mountains with a high altitude finish have historically been a bit of a weakness for pagat but he certainly put that to bed yesterday everyone knew that paga and UAE wanted to win the stage but having seen him ride a little more conservatively on Pratt the a week before a few of us expect a similar type of performance get the win just don’t dig too deep for it well we were wrong pagat gave Mika The Telltale nod with 15 km to go then blasted away from his GC Rivals and set off in pursuit of the early Breakaway within 2 km of making that attack Pat’s lead over the group of Grant Thomas was a minute that is Bonkers by the top of the climb he was some 2 minutes 22 seconds ahead now some of that was down to some cat and mouse in the group behind but most of it was Pat’s legs he average 28 km an hour for the final 5 km of the penultimate climb of the day a good 3 to 4 km an hour faster than anyone else he started the final climb to levinho with 40 seconds still to make up on quana but made short work of catching and passing the Mau Star Rider he could have afforded to take it easy in the closing meters were it not for them being so horrifically steep it really was a demonstration his advantage over Danny Martinez the next best of the GC Riders to cross the line was 2 minutes and 50 seconds with the bonus seconds that means he now leaves Grant Thomas by 6 minutes and 41 seconds with six stages to go the biggest margin at this stage of the race in decades it’s the first time that pagat has won more than three stages in a single Grand Tour and you wouldn’t be at all surprised if there was more to come also according to Stats on cycling on X it’s the first time he’s won a race or a stage race with more than 5,000 m of elevation game given the koges burned by others that uploaded to straa on the day that might also be a sign that he’s no longer fallible on longer days at high altitude T arensman who for example uploaded his wrer straa complete with power data had burnt 5,300 kles before he even got to the last 25 km of climbing Herman himself moved closer to Antonio tiberi in the young riers classification that day despite his work for Grant Thomas pagat had already increased his lead over everybody else in the second individual time shot on Saturday however on that occasion his performance performance wasn’t good enough to beat a relieved filipo Ghana the Italian champ was a man on a mission over the 31 km averaging over 53 km an hour despite the 350 M of elevation gain on route that was his first win in 8 months after what had been a relatively slow start to his season by his standards batcha is remaining cautious of claiming the GC win as sewn up just yet though saying to GCM reported that he didn’t think he wanted to jinx things just yet naturally though at this stage buing disaster patcha has the race in the bag and already the discussion of whether this form will translate to the tour win in July is shaping up I think his performance over the weekend will have many of his Rivals quaking in their boots there’s a small you know in patu’s armor and if that would be the case it would be in the high mountains but let’s be honest after his display of performances over the weekend that isn’t the case anymore Remco vinegar rogl are going to make for a big competition of course but on this form it’s hard to look past Pacha if you could ask any question potentially you could say this is the first time he has attempted a grand tour double a feat which shouldn’t be underestimated no matter who you are he’s obviously on top form now but can he recover and get back on top in just 6 weeks time and get through a final week of a grand tour in the meantime patcha is right of course to be cautious saying to gcn that he was looking forward to jly but he had to survive this upcoming week first personally I think patea will be very very hard to be to the tour he looks to have stepped things up again this season but of course the real question will be answered in July let us know what you think in the comments section down below back to the jro though and in the Sprints Jonathan Milan emerged as the dominant fast man of the race after three Sprint stages shared between meroy and Milan in the opening week the Italian was the only Sprinter to raise his arms over the last six stages as such his lead in The chamina Jersey competition is substantial he’ll go into the final week with an 89o lead over Kaden Groves Valentin paty panta had taken by far the biggest win of his career on stage 10 dropping Roman B and passing hand traic towards the end of that Summit finish but the most entertaining stage of the week came two days later Julian alip set out on what most people thought was a suicide mission with 130 kmers to go going clear with M Mastery of poy Keta with a really strong group behind them it really felt like they were on a hiding to nothing but we shouldn’t have doubted should we the exploits of those two that day were really quite incredible their average speed over 193 kmet with 2,200 meters of climbing was 46.7 km an hour close to 30 mph for the 137 km he was up the road Al Philip averaged just under 300 watts and the duo reached a final climb of the day with 45 seconds over the group of navaras behind but ala Filip didn’t relinquish any of it on the way up unfortunately for Myer the writing was on the wall for him as they hit those steep slopes but you have to to tip your hat to him too that is a day he will never forget in part because Al Philip had a special delivery for him a few days later a lovely guest to that but how good is it to see Al Philip back at his flamboyant entertaining best that was his first win since last year’s Criterium D and we all know the trials and tribulations he’s faced over the last couple of years this is how the GC looks then with six stages remaining pateo with a more than comfortable lead of 6 minutes 41 seconds over Thomas with Martinez a further 15 seconds back aona isn’t too far off a Podium place he’s 47 seconds behind Martinez whil tiid and arensman are the only others within 10 minutes of the pink jersey in the mountains classification despite the efforts of Gesa scaron and Quintana and others actually pagata has more than double the points of everyone else he sits on 172 whilst Gesa is second on 78 Antonio tiir continues to ride at a consistently very high level now as well as sitting in fifth in the general classification he’s also leading the best young Rider competition although as I said earlier tan renman is now breathing down his neck that’s going to be an interesting one over the last week of the race one other story that came out over the stage yesterday was that of jent beans arbnb hotels it emerged that the Belgian had fallen 25 M down a ravine on The Descent of the Motorola couldn’t move and he lost radio contact speaking to sporza at the finish line which he remarkably managed to ride to Beerman said that four teams helped to look for him before eventually pulling him back up to the road can’t actually believe he managed to finish that stage thankfully all in one piece it was a 7h hour stay in the saddle for him anyway that’s it for the jro this week but a reminder that you can watch the final six stages live and uninterrupted on Discovery plus and Max just before I move on to other races another quick plug for our shop and the huge collection of t-shirts and sweatshirts that are available including the one that I’m wearing right now Within Italian theme if you’d like to take a look at what’s on offer maybe even make a purchase just head over to shop. Global cycling network.com onto V Bergos now there was a really nasty crash actually in the final kilometer of stage one former world champion Alisa Baltimore of little Trek slammed into and through the barriers at high speed initial examinations revealed a fracture of the nasal bone the second metacarpal of the left hand and a concussion bad but not as bad as it looks like it could have been Sophia butola was also involved and had a fra to her left forearm get well soon Sophia and Alisa that opening stage Was Won by ef’s l hental a huge win for her particularly as Arena Weber was in the sprinting field too Weber got her stage win two days later but the first GC Shuffle came on stage two with it Summit finish to Alto D roosales no surprises to see Demi voling reign supreme there but she was pushed close aita music finished Just 4 seconds behind behind Bing’s lead going into the fourth and final stage was just 8 seconds but it was a hell of a lot bigger than one things were wrapped up there voling attacked on the final climb of the day with around 17 km to go catching and passing early attacker L the Bland and arriving at the line almost a minute clear of her took voling until the 2nd of May this year to rack up her first win of the season but 17 days later she was already up to eight meanwhile at the six day long Four Days of Dunkirk the Cath AG to continued their incredible season with a man who hadn’t won a race at all before the race started Sam Bennett had to settle for third on stage one behind Milan fron who gave kofus their third win of the season but Bennett then won four of the next five stages the first two of those were in Sprint finishes whilst on Saturday he won the hardest stage of the race into Cassel he came really close on stage 4 two 22-year-old War Vango of suda quickstep almost made the catastrophic error of celebrating too early he got away with it just his first win as a pro was just millimeters ahead of s Bennett who thought he nabbed it on the line the Irishman was of course the red hot favorite going into the sixth and final stage and he J delivered four wins from six stages a second place a third place a win on GC and the points classification that’s not a bad hul is it means that the cja to are now up to 20 wins this season bumping Vima Lisa bike down to fourth place in those rankings uee still lead they’re now on 35 wins whilst little Trek are second on 22 a couple of other races to round up toward gy of Uno X took the first win of his career at Vandal vendal he beat Simon deaz and Dylan gragan in the Sprint whilst the women’s Was Won by Rihanna Marcus of visma who soloed to the win in front of Bara gesi yesterday at the anet Port epic Lara Gillespie took by far the biggest win of her career Another Irish win I might add for the week she got the better of Zoe bagad to the line whilst Alexander Kristoff took the 90th win of his career in the men’s outs sprinting a milon genre of total energies from a small group Arnold dele had to settle for fourth place although I’m surprised that result still stands he twice took his hands off the bars in the Sprint because he was boxed in so I was expecting a relegation just finally there was a double success for EF at the US national champs yesterday Kristen fauler and sha Quinn won their respective road races for them and we’ll be in in the stars and stripes for the next year a couple more bits to wrap up now Matthew vandero decided that he will ride the tour to France this year but skip the Olympic Games mountain bike event in favor of the road race that decision had hung in the balance until recently meanwhile the transfer Rumor Mill is in full swing already you can read all about it on our website Global cycling network.com last week there were rumors that Red Bull bore a hrow were after Tom pidcock despite being under a long contract with inos whil UAE already busy finalizing their 2025 roster apparently Jasper phism is off the table but they’re reigning Rafael mic and possibly Mark Hershey as well you can read all about that over on our website we’ll put a link in the description below right that’s all for this week we’ll be back next week to wrap up the final week of the jro as well as the tour of Norway in which wal vanart will make his competitive return the B de la mayen the ride London classic and the GP marel Kint see you soon

  1. With modern nutrition and recovery I honestly believe the triple comes into consideration.
It'd take a freak, but I think we have one of those.

  2. Given that his nearest rival is barely recovered from smashing his body into a rock, and that he's on the Armstrong diet, yes, yes he probably will

  3. I am pulling hard for Vingegaard is ready. As a cycling fan, I really want to see a competitive TDF. As much as I appreciate Pogacar's amazing racing, the TDF won't be nearly as good without JV to counter Pogi. Also, the best want to face the best. I truly believe that if Pogacar wins the Giro and the TDF but without JV or a fully recovered Roglic it won't mean nearly as much to him.

  4. Another one used by detractors of Pog. First, it was high altitude and long climbs, which were about as true as unicorns. Now the last bastion to crack is the hot weather. Keep hanging your hopes on this one—maybe next he'll be defeated by an ill-tempered squirrel!

  5. There needs to be a conversation on the criteria for the KOM. Here we have a few riders such as Greschke, Calmejane and Scaroni fighting among themselves for the handful of points available on the intermediate climbs to try and close the gap to the GC leader, only for that leader to scoop up a boatload of points by winning the final uphill climb to the finish – because a stage win is a bigger priority – and thereby increasing the gap even further. This has happened quite a few times in the last few years, especially at the Tour with Pog and Jonas also claiming the KOM Jersey along with their two GC wins – something which I am sure is not a priority for them. It would also save them some time during the daily post stage jersey ceremony. The same thing is now happening in this Giro.

  6. If Jonas is fully fit for the tour I think we will see an excellent battle but if not, Pogacar will run away with it. Remco has shown he can crack badly and roglic won't be able to stand up to pogi in this form.

  7. I wonder how Tadej will perform in the summer heat of July. This year his form seems impeccable, he was thriving in really hard stages. He seem untouched by cold weather, like in stage 2. of Vuelta Catalunya, or today. But for the last two Tours, he didn’t respond so well to the effort when exposed to heat and sun.

  8. #askgcn In ball games or other gambling-prone sports, it has been unfortunate to see athletes and referees fix the games. I was wondering how grey is the line of riders asking other riders what their plans for the stage are, insofar as if a breakaway stage hunter gets a “free pass” from the GC leader, should we count it as “fixing” the game, to some level?
Honestly not sure how I feel about it. Any thoughts from the GCN community and Presenters?

  9. If Pog can save enough gas in the tank for the hotter days of the tour, it's hard to see even Jonas taking him down in the tour. Roglic and Remco don't stand a chance I think.
