You’re stressed out, that’s the firt one ! No, I’m fine. I have to hide my Ricard, right ? No, we know it ! Hello and welcome to Full Attack. We’re back together for the first debrief of the year. And now we’ve got guests, we’ve gone all out, we hit the nail on the head. We’ll start with Myriam Nicole, who has joined us, who is here, who don’t need any introduction anymore. Her first race, her return to competition. We’ll talk about it later. Kevin Joly, Finn’s mechanic, who is also here with us. And it’s true that we see you a lot on the videos and we never really see you talking. Because you don’t have time, you’re on the track but now you can talk with us. And finally, the big winner. It wasn’t easy to get him out of the mass of people who wanted to take a photo with him today because he was so impressive. For those who watched the finals, it was just incredible. For those who haven’t seen it, it’s a shame, because it was amazing. And that’s it. So we’re going to attack right away. I’d like to get started… You didn’t say who I was. LOIC BRUNI, sorry ! I don’t need to introduce you, mate. "There he is, oh well…" He won, he was strong, so… I do apologize. Loïc Bruni. We’ll start right away with this junior race and I’d like to talk to Myriam. I’d like you to react to this. There are two juniors, so we already had Mylann Falquet, all these young people there. Our two juniors Alran, Max and Till, Max is just one podium away. So that’s good but Asa Vermette, who was just unbelievable, who took over six seconds from everyone else and who is in time for a top 15 finish in the Elite category. Now it’s happening all the time, in fact, it’s becoming normal for these juniors to push the elites behind. Well, we were waiting for him, he was there, he came, he won. How you say ? Veni Vidi Vici. So yes, frankly, amazing, he broke his pelvis not long ago. No, really, it’s amazing. After that, he’s American, he comes along, he has solid shoulders, perhaps a little bit used to fame. After that, all the others, first-year juniors, get to Fort William, you’re in a big team… That’s all we asked for the twins. Just do the job, get their bearings, learning, just let them get their own experience to not rush into something too hard. It’s a great experience for Asa, Mylann had a mechanical issue… Yes, there have been quite a few… But, hey, Fort William you know. Yeah, Fort William, as you say, he’s coming up first junior year, there’s Chris Hauser, juniors who were already there last year and now he’s winning Fort William. Loïc, have you ever won Fort William as a junior? I don’t think so. I’ve never won, but the juniors, more and more, they blow my mind. You see, Asa Vermette, first time in Fort Bill, he puts down a crazy run. He’s there, looks like.. You know, he’s young and all, it’s a crazy thing. So I think they’re much more mature, they ride well, they’re physical, they can do a lot more than we did back then. So it’s not comparable. And the Frenchies are looking good all the same. So I think… It’s the first race. It’s always cool to see what’s been done in the winter and what happens, but it doesn’t mean anything. Everything remains to be done. And so, Asa, he’s needs to keep it up, but I think it’s not going to be that easy. And the others, they’ll push more. For sure it’s… impressive this itensity and then I feel like bouncing back quickly, because it’s true that juniors, they’re here to have fun, well, serious fun. But I want to get right back to the women’s race. The woman’s race, you had time to see it. I’ve seen it. And I mean, the qualies, it was already ten seconds. We saw that there were almost 18 women who could break into the top 10. So that was incredible. And here, out of the last ten, there were a lot we could have put on the podium. In the end, it came down to 4min 45, a little less, in 5 tenths of a second. It’s amazing now. Yeah, it’s crazy. It’s true that there used to be several racers who really stood out from the mass. And there’s a mass of girls riding hard, training hard. After that, I think they’re very much inspired by this lead with Pompon, by Cam, by Vali, by others. They worked hard. Today, everyone is working. That’s pretty impressive. And to see them like that, racing against each other, it’s great for the discipline, and it pushes everyone to really… It pushes everyone to the top. So it’s nice to see. And yeah, it feels good. And frankly, they are super fast. Myriam, we need to talk, and we need your opinion. on this women’s race, on this qualification. You’re definitely coming back. You’re already here, when technically the doctor wouldn’t necessarily be okay but you’re coming anyway, and you’re the first one surprised to see the level. You left the WorldCups for a while while you were recovering from all your injuries. And now, in just two years, seeing the acceleration it has made… What do you think ? It’s really cool. The girls are on and it’s a pleasure. There, I knew that… Hold it in your hand, please. I knew I was going to be ten seconds away, but I didn’t know I was going to be 16th. At ten seconds, two years ago, I was on the podium in Fort William. So that was a big surprise. And then, while riding in the morning, I really said to myself: "There’s this afternoon." And then..: "No, in fact, there was no afternoon". So, a new format, and the girls, they work. That’s because you think that in your run, you don’t you put enough intensity by saying "No rush, no big risks" ? No, there’s a little bit… There’s a little bit of that. I’m definitely super close from the semi. So yes, there’s a little pedal stroke I’m missing somewhere. But then, really, the teams, they work. So that’s just great. Before, it was just the big ones, Spe, us, who did big team camps or winter tests. Now you see all the teams, the Atherton, the weekend before coming here, all the teams were testing, were rolling, doing time runs and, in the end, the girls are working. So it’s really beautiful to see. I’m delighted for the discipline. Really, before, between 5 and 10, there was still a big gap. There, now, you see, it’s slipping away. And so, your feeling is does it give you a little kick like : "Come on, it’ll give me a boost", etc.? We’re going to have our hands full. I can tell you that for the qualies in Poland, I’m going to give it my all. Like everything. That’s for sure, I guess… She had a wound too. Yeah, lack of confidence. She returns from a concussion last year, and there, unlucky again, in New Zealand, you have to get a ligament operation and all that. You shouldn’t have even been racing. I think you arrived… It’s a lack of confidence. Right now, I’m really not ready. And my greatest victory : taking part in a World Cup without being ready. Frankly, I never would have done it before. And that’s when I said to myself: I’ve got to go this way. So that’s my little victory. I’d just like to digress for a moment. We’ve seen it all the same, for both men and women, we saw a huge English presence. Something quite incredible, though. The track wasn’t closed. It wasn’t closed, in fact it was marked out in certain parts. Will having the track open before can allow us to train ? Or do we have to leave the tracks open like that ? What do you think? I can see you waving at me for this. No, don’t get me started. Personally, I think it’s a little bit too bad they left it open so long. They even laid out the track and left it open. Some guys were clearly riding the World Cup track. That’s the worst of it, it’s almost drawn. As a result, there’s a real advantage. You know, guys who ride, they have extra runs, knowing that it’s a misery to make runs here. You stand in line all day and everything. I don’t think it’s very fair. It’s bound to be a small advantage for the English people, because they’re closer to here. But do you know what the victory of the day is? It’s only the top 5 guys, the girls, I don’t know. No one came to train in advance, so it means everything and nothing. I think it’s still a small advantage, but when you’re there, you’re there. That’s it, there’s the atmosphere of the race, and so on. It’s just this parenthesis, we were saying that everyone works. The Frenchies have two World Cups tracks in France. Loudenvielle is open, but Les Gets is not. You can’t in Les Gets, since the shape of the station means you can’t access to it. They were closing on April 20. as planned, as announced by the organization. But they just didn’t hold the trick. So we all felt a bit cheated. because they were due to close on April 20. You may not see it in the top 5, but it’s true that if you look closer a little bit, where it normally gets a lot tighter. It’s true that there’s this top 5, top 10 ahead. But if we take a quick look from seventh place to fifteenth, in seventeenth place, there has been a resurgence of English people. So that’s why I wanted to make the parenthesis and get your opinion on it, which seemed to me… We’d like a rule… That’s a problem. Clearly, at this point, it’s all nonsense. There are a number of venues that remain open until the day before the race, while others are closed. It doesn’t make sense. So I think managers are really going to have to organize it, the riders, will all agree, as Laurent was saying, "gentleman’s agreement" or a real Warner rule so it’s as clear as day. Okay, two, three weeks before, you don’t go anymore, it’s closed. Otherwise, it’s an amateur sport. I’m with you 100%. In my opinion, we should have training times on these trails. After that, it’s clear that these are not easy things to put in place. If we say they’re also bike-parks, then they must leave… You saw it. The track needs to be redone, it was dead before time. There are plenty of things to do, and they’ve clearly made a mess of things. I think in France, that’s where they’re good with Les Gets. They’re a bit like "core guys" those who shape, they say : No, we shape, there’s not a guy riding here and at least the people who are going to discover it are going to be happy. And that’s not the case here. It’s clearly a bike park. Here, there are only one or two tracks, so it’s not the same. But in the future, it’s something we’re going to have to talk about, you see, in GP motorcycling, they all do tests. It’s limited, it’s framed on this or that track. In DHI we don’t care. Some people have rode the whole circuit before it even started. And we do it too, you see, from time to time. I went to Loudenvielle in January. So you’ve kind of forced yourself ? It was open. I said to myself: I’m going, everyone’s going. And off you go, riding down the track like an asshole. And you almost get to the race, you don’t need to do anything. You have all your lines, all your settings, and I don’t find that normal. So it’s cool on one hand, because Loudenvielle, which is a fresh track, needs to evolve a little. But other than that, no, there’s no need. We’re going to move onto this men’s race. This men’s race was incredible, from start to finish. Finn, Loïc, you, there’s this duel. Troy Brosnan is also involved. Lucas Shaw, Dakota Norton… We had a real battle. But you live it even more. It’s a game, but this one’s a millimeter. Yeah, that was bullshit. Frankly, when you arrive here, you don’t necessarily know… We’re always asking ourselves : are we up to speed? Aren’t we in on it ? We, with Finn, have spent the last three weeks, it was really complicated in the sense that we were still having a bit of trouble with the bike, the new equipment we had from Ohlins, it was a bit difficult to get used to it. Everything lined up for us in the last 8 days before this first World Cup. It was a big dose of stress. I knew he was in good shape physically compared to what he showed me. Then we arrive here, counter at zero, everyone’s on the move, everyone’s on fire. You’re right in the thick of it, rolling super fast from the very first run. It’s true that it’s hot. And then it moves on. Qualies, we make a good qualification. Loïc makes a sick qualification. It starts already, you say to yourself: Fuck, all right, OK. I knew Finn was capable, and I think today he was really good, he warmed up before the start, I think it put him in a bit of a rhythm… But he grown a lot, he matured too, and he quickly refocused. Are you changing his training too ? We readjusted a lot of things. Frankly, he’s been in my home since February. He’s only been home for two weeks and a half, so we talked a lot, discussed a lot. We talked about a lot of things. And in fact, the relationship I have with him, Finn he’s a big character, I can’t impose things on him. So I wait and show him a little… sometimes certain things that he do more or less well. And as soon as he realizes it, things start moving. So that’s how we manage to build our relationship. It’s been 10 years already, but this year we’ve passed another milestone. So there you have it, we have what it takes in the team, in everything to succeed. We can’t… Now it’s up to us to get the job done. I’ll cut you off there. I see, there’s this little competition between the athletes. There’s this little competition too, of course, between Loïc and Finn, who is interesting on the track. But when I was at the finish earlier, watching this final, I see Loïc arriving with a little disc cover for the aero side, and I see Finn whithout it. When I see this, I see a war, well not a war, but a bit of a mech battle ? There’s this side to it, you know… – He loves it. Loic ride it, he ride with it. And then, when he arrives, Loïc must have arrived with this bike, Finn saw it, he says to himself: "Shall we put it on ?" See what I mean ? Yeah, afterwards, we learned to live with that too. Loïc, it’s… Today, you can’t do better in the middle of the downhill. He’s a model for many things. In fact, we’ve completely overlooked it. We know what we need to feel good. For us, it doesn’t stop there. It’s not a cache or something that… – You have your process and you do… Now we have our process. That’s what we proved to ourselves this winter, that we needed to be just together . We know each other really well, we know how both work, and we know that if either has this to work, we’ll manage to do what we can. Today the gaps, they are… Qualification is 0.013, I think. 0.078, I think for you Loïc. It was crazy. You don’t even know how many centimeters it is on the track. You don’t even know what the game is. This is getting crazy. And we’ve got lots of little evolutions. Loïc is super-picky with Jack about hyper-technical things. Finn is much less demanding so we’re working on other things too. But they’re two different profiles. And we don’t want to be a copy of Loïc, because I think he’s the only one who can do it. Because he does the right thing at the right time. That’s something you have to know how to do. We’re completely out of that. We don’t want to be a copy of the Jack and Loïc pairing, which works like a charm. We just want to be us and be able to do things according to us, like us – for the challenge. So much for the challenge. Then we see that it’s starting well, we start to… But it’s good, it’s a real boost. I mean, that’s what we need to pull us up, is to have examples like him beside us all the time. It allows us to keep challenging ourselves. Isn’t there any negative energy created by that? Absolutely not. No, frankly, I think it’s a mistake for us to do so, every time, we use Loïc as a reference, because it’s Loïc, Jack, it’s a process that’s been working like a charm for years. And I think it would be a mistake for us to want to copy that, because we’re not those two people. Let’s get back to the race. The race with Pompom, and finally, I’d like to let our big winner of the day talk, of course. This race, while watching it, it was an incredible live show, in the sense that each pilot we’d say to ourselves: "That’s it, he’s broken the race! he’s just broken the race, he’s just broken the race. It comes down to a tenth. We saw some big runs with Ronan Dune, Dakota. Really, it was tightening, piling up. Then Loïc came along. And then it was almost calm. When we saw this inter… Yeah…- Very surprised. You said it well. We were at a loss for words. You know, I had Momo next to me. We were both.. watching the race, we looked at each other, like well, there’s no one who… It’s done, he’s on top. Because it’s the first time where I’m really impressed by your riding. The first time. No, but you usually go fast, but it doesn’t show. You could tell today. You’re usually so clean that you go fast, and that’s… You know, this isn’t Greenland, he’s not a Goldstone, he’s Loïc, he’s calm, he’s fast, period. But this time, it was Loïc, and it shows. I tried to describe.. It’s amazing. No, but it’s sick stuff. I tried to describe the race to him, cause he didn’t see it, I said to him: "Now he’s picking up speed and you can see it." It was mind-blowing. And winning Fort William had never happened before. It’s still an incredible thing. Yeah, it’s crazy. Frankly, everyone is too happy. It was too good to look at. And I would like to give this last word to you, Loïc, who made us… I was just mentioning the fact that the year, last year, we had two final runs during the day. Those legendary runs were gone. Coming back to a single final is a run where we’re at 120%. We’re going to see some legendary new runs for me. Right now, we’ve just been through it and we’re still feeling it. When we take a look at it in a week’s time, I think it’ll have this side to it : "He settled the race, he atomized the race." Tell us about your run, how it went in this thing. Above all, it’s a track…you won everywhere in the world, except here. Look, it was the only track… There’s also Val di Sol, which is still difficult for me, but Fort Bill and Val di Sol are the two really tough ones, who are terribly hard technically, physically, for the bike, for everything. So I don’t have any great memories here. I’ve broken my collarbone, and I’ve put up some anthology crashes too. I’ve never really been able to find the right mindset, speed and riding. In fact, this weekend was going well. Everyone in the team was riding well, not too many punctures, not too many worries and it was rolling along. The good weather, I think, it did a bit too…Unfortunately. I think I’ll be better with the rain and all, but the good weather put me in the right frame of mind. And behind, in qualifying, it was dry and I don’t know, and I felt like I didn’t have anything special. And I was three seconds ahead and I go: That’s stylish. Above all, we see you coming into the qualifier, you don’t even put a pedal round in the finish, down there, like, I don’t push and there, everybody was there, minus three seconds less, we go : "What ?" Like, easy. No, but it was just that I don’t know I think I found the flow before the others, maybe. And in fact, they all got excited about semi. And the track was harder too. You see, when it was wet, it didn’t roll as well, it was a bit more trashed. And me, on the other hand, I didn’t manage to go fast again, so I was a little disappointed with my semi. It was tight, you see. We were all in not even a tenth of it, so it was all nonsense, it’s a good thing we’ve got the disc protector these days. I’ll go straight to the UCI. No, and you see today, it was dry. And this morning, first run, wet. Second run, dry. I said to myself: Damn, it’s really cool when it’s dry. And in fact, you have this unique Fort William flow, which is too hard to find and easier in the dry than in the wet. In fact, I didn’t really need to pedal out of the corners. I wasn’t struggling with the track and everything. So I think it helped a little to keep the speed at the top. You were speeding up, it wasn’t stopping, actually. Yeah. And then, you know, the woods, as we used to say with Renato, that was my weak spot. So I tried to make it neutral, not to win anything, but not to lose too much. This is where you left two tenths. It’s the place where you left a little time, after all. Because I knew it wasn’t my strong point. And if I’d wanted to put more on, maybe I would have died out in the woods, you know? So you had to be a bit intelligent, mature too. And I didn’t know if I could afford it, to leave a little time. I did it while riding because it seemed normal. At the bottom, I put a bit of everything I had, but the chain was jumping. I was afraid it would drop me on a jump or something. I said to myself: I’m going to crash. I hope not, because I still had a good run. And no, I crossed the line and it was the first time in my life in Fort William where I was satisfied. I couldn’t have done any better myself. Before seeing your time? Yeah, in the last thing where I went flat on the last jump there. I said to myself : "Honestly, I don’t want to go back up. Please no red flag or rerun". It was really cool. You see, yesterday, it was super long, the new formats. So yesterday was a lot harder than before. And then…There’s Finn. Cheers ! And then, you see, with the one run… Nobody cares about what I say. No, but definitely. The one run, as you say, is so cool. It’s going to be the best. And you feel.. The feelings we used to have, the stress that goes up a bit, you don’t have two runs. Up, up, up. And you have one run where you send and basta. So I think it’s going to be cool this season. In any case, congrats. It was just an incredible run. Finn ! Do you want to say something in French ? Finn ? Yes. The cam is just behind. So, there you can just join us. And the camera, We have a surprise guest : Finn, je pense que tu peux répondre en français, tu es content de ton podium aujourd’hui j’imagine ? Anyway, thank you so much, Finn. Thank you for following us this week. Thanks to DT Swiss and the whole team of Madison for receiving us here on Fort William. See you in Poland for the new round, the surprise. We’re all waiting to see what it’s going to be like. Have you ever seen what it looks like? I hear it’s just It’s pretty new too. Yeah, we’ve seen a few pictures, it reminds me a bit of Maribor or I don’t know, we’ll see. I like to get there, to see for myself, to see what it’s all about. But it’s nice to have a newcomer. I think this at least sets the record straight a little. on all those who were able to file the tracks and everything before. And we’ll see, I think we’ll be ready and we’ll see. We can’t wait. Thank you all so much. Thanks to Yo, who is always there to support me. Ciao, bye, la bise, bye, bye, bye. Goodbye.
