This weekend I went up to Salisbury to recce Hot Chillee’s Stone Circle event with my friend Nik. Promised ‘fast-flowing US style gravel roads’ we were excited to charge around Wiltshire on our gravel bikes. The British weather had other ideas and we were substantially slowed down by thick mud and slippery clay. It was very fun, though probably quite unlike what we’ll be riding come summer solstice. Looking forward to going back and riding the full 215km, hopefully in dry, sunny conditions. Here’s the ride: https://www.hotchillee.com/events/stone-circle-gravel/

    1. We did a “uk gravel” ride the other week in the Surrey hills, mixed in with some mtb trails but was pretty much a mud fest! So much harder to pedal and takes a lot of energy just to go a short distance. This route looked really fun!

    2. The funniest thing for me these last few years is watching British youtubers "especially one you know in the Torquay area" on their "Gravel bikes" actually looking for gravel, it's very funny! I've come to the conclusion the bike industries should make new bikes just for the UK market "Mud Bikes". I live in Poland, and seriously, no seriously, I'm sooooooooooooooooooooooooo sick of gravel, you cant get away from it, it is gravel heaven, its everywhere! On the edge of cities, at least 80% of forests and fields and woodland tracks are gravel!

    3. Definitely didn't see anything that looked remotely like US gravel there! Not sure how I'm going to cope with that when I'm back in the UK for a few weeks this summer?!

    4. Your sky and where you are is the same as Nebraska… if i blind folded you couldn't tell if you were in the UK or then middle of United States or America part of the world… 😁

    5. Stonehenge doesn't have a gift shop right next to the site? Oh you Brits are missing out on cashing in on your prehistoric ancestry!

    6. You dropped an unintentional bilingual pun in there – "We're going to be approaching Stonehenge by bike, which is pretty rad!" ("Rad" means "bike" or "wheel" in German).

      Yes, I am a massive dork 😅

    7. What does US gravel mean? Cause I am in the US desert, which is not really like that or what the rest of the gravel riding people think of US gravel. I think you'd enjoy desert gravel riding.
