You’d have struggled to spot a single EV on UK streets when the ETA launched in 1990. Fast forward 34 years, and the number of fully electric cars on our roads has soared to over 1,100,000.

We handpick the best mechanics and garages around Britain and send one that’s local to you when you break down. We believe this way of working is efficient, environmentally friendly and helps support local economies.

One of our local teams is Parker Fry Recovery based in Peterborough. We visited them earlier this month to ask about EV breakdown cover and how they deal with a broken-down electric car.

    E-bike breakdown recovery

Our EV breakdown recovery services extend to e-bikes.

We launched the UK’s first Cycle Rescue service 30 years ago, and include it for free with every cycle insurance policy of ours. Alternatively, we sell it as a standalone service for £24 per year.

If your e-bike or electric cargo bike suffers a puncture, mechanical issue, or even a flat battery, we can send a recovery lorry to rescue you.

See www.eta.co.uk for more info and to buy breakdown cover for your e-bike or electric car.

we are often asked if the recovery process for electric vehicles is much different to the recovery process for combustion engine cars the simple answer to that is no not really although there are some minor differences essentially they are still four wheeels on the ground and we can attach winches or they can be driven up in some cases and taken to wherever it needs to go one of the concerns with electric vehicles is with the batteries when we go out to recover Vehicles sometimes it’s had an electrical fault or maybe it’s come to a stop we will often take temperature readings using infrared temperature sensors just to see that everything is intact with the battery and there’s no temperature spikes once that’s all done the vehicle is then loaded and safely taken away to where it needs to go many breakdowns that we attend for EVS are generally down to people uh getting really low on battery and needing assistance there are many reasons why e run low on battery sooner than you think sometimes the temperature sometimes heavy winds can affect the the car the more time you spend with your EV driving it the more you’ll understand the range and everything that affects it and you’ll find yourself running into trouble less and less
