    [Music] welcome to Edinburgh Scotland’s proud Capital edinburgh’s history dates back to at least the 7th Century ad with its first known settlement established around Castle Rock the site where Edinburgh Castle now stands each step in this city is walk through history we’ll discover Victoria Street said to be the real world inspiration for Harry Potter’s diagonale and we’ll stand beneath the Towering Scott Monument a grand tribute to a literary genius let’s begin our tour through this fascinating City higher top Castle Rock Edinburgh Castle dominates the skyline the castle has a complex history with Origins dating back to the early 12th century making it over 900 years old however the site itself has been occupied since around the 2 Century ad as evidenced by archaeological findings this historic Fortress has been a royal residence and a military stronghold its walls have witnessed key events in Scottish history from battles to Royal ceremonies inside you can explore the Scottish crown jewels and the stone of Destiny ancient symbols of Scottish monarchy the stretch of Street known as Castle Hill that leads up to the castle offers one of the best city views in Edinburgh leaving Edinburgh Castle our journey takes us onto the Royal mile a historic Avenue that runs downhill from the castle grounds all the way to the Grand holwood Palace along this stretch we are surrounded by medieval architecture Lively shops and narrow alleys better known in Scotland as closes the Royal mile is often regarded as a vibrant Living Museum each building and hidden passageway resonating with the rich history of Edinburgh one of the many highlights along the Royal mile is this saint Giles cathedral built in the 14th century and Central to Scotland’s Reformation it is a masterpiece of historical architecture over the centuries it has undergone various Renovations and expansions contributing to its diverse architectural appearance today the cathedral’s most notable feature is its Crown Spire a remarkable example of Gothic architecture and a recognizable symbol of Edinburgh a short walk further down the Royal mile brings us to the toll booth Tavern part of edinburgh’s old municipal building this tavern dates back to the 16th century
