good morning folks had a good sleep actually really good sleep um I’m got to get the tent down now and get on the way uh shouldn’t be too long to Winchester and hopefully I can use the library to charge my gear I forgot to say welcome to uh today’s episode of The King Alfred weight so mostly going through Farmland now there’s going to be less forested areas now on the next part he went then almost keep falling off cuz I got a lot of weight on my handlebars at the moment and it’s not evenly spread out the bag that I normally put on the back of my bike just keeps coming off so I’m to hold it on the the handle bars the back rack is useless with this bike so this was site of a medieval village which is now gone probably in the Civil War possibly quite a nice easy to ride track down here there is an option of a small row to the side of me but I wouldn’t have seen the sight of the uh former Village it just says on the map former Village so it’s not even got a name or maybe it’s a village former Village of a village that’s nearby you see some settlement small settlement in the distance coming up to a little settlement where it’s just a farm a farm the looks of it some houses possibly like a hamlet as I said that’s a uh settlement small s uh Church oh this looks familiar this looks really familiar say I’m sure I’ve been think I’m going the right way oh wow look like it’s got no wh there oh that’s all maybe I haven’t been here before wow beautiful place I think I going the right way I presume I am so now one going the right way I think but that that uh was a medieval village I showed you just now not the not the village I just went through I went slightly the wrong way but uh the village where you can’t really well there’s nothing left of it it would have been probably destroyed in the Civil War like I said um it’s got a name as well I couldn’t couldn’t really read it on the map cuz I got my glasses okay so I think I’m going this way turn here and apparently there’s um there is a pub oh there it is ah doesn’t look very open and yes I don’t think it’s a pub anymore unless they’re going to reopen it but yeah it doesn’t look very Pub like anymore does it that’s a shame so here I’m going going straight up but I just saw this sign it’s not really well placed is it going to put it more on the road C Holden farm so if anyone is passing here this spot it’s down there as I said I’m going up this way I also make a suggestion to people doing these types of uh Farm shops and CS that put on the side of uh track like this put if possible put if you’re opening or not I know it’s not very practical if the sign’s far away but at least put what times you’re Hing at cuz we have to go a mile off track only to find that you’re closed and we have to go a mile back that’s two extra miles onto your journey or kilometers or whatever and uh it’s just a you know time wasted and um I just find that really frustrating with these types of signs none of them have whe they’re open or not and you can’t always get internet to see if they’re open and people don’t always update their uh internet details on Google for that and sometimes you just can’t get the details on the internet anyway for these uh Farm shops or or even little shops so yeah any of you folks have got a shop that do the side of the trails it’s just really handy to know cuz that’s cuz most of the time I see them I think uh what’s the point you’re going to get down there and it’s closed cuz that has happened to me a [Music] lot danger Harvest traffic I did hear them last night they’re up at all hours doing their harvesting [Music] so much more a that won’t be open now will it that’s camping Ro it’s a shame P Farm calf it’s cuz it’s early oh I like to G and got coffee in there there a lot of places this year are flying the Union flag it’s good to see we’re still part of the UK by the way I’m on the south D’s way again or part the king Alfred’s way I’m doing and uh I can see some kind of what looks like a festival only I can see what looks like those ATT tents possibly cars in a field it looks quite big quite a big Festival I can see those sort of like festival lights they up at the campsites flood lights in the distance you probably not going to pick it up on the GoPro all those years ago walking the South D way I would have been walked up here well it’s like a sometimes you do these Trails you do get a car you’ve done before it’s it’s like a time machine let bring back all these memories like can you you never think you’ll be back here you think you’ll never be back in this area again yeah here I am back all these years later on uh who would have thought on a a cheap bike going along the same bit of Trail in a backpack all my camera gear back then I only just took photos and didn’t I didn’t do video YouTube in just into photography then so I’ve got plenty of photos of it okay just stopping for a rest thanks friends of South Downs for my journey on the king elf ridway well that actually what I thought was a festival looks like tons and tons of cars lots of cars not sure if I can see any tents I can see one person ah what’s this souds diversion why is there a diversion I’m supposed to be going up that way and there are cameras there to it and there’s a sign so I’m going see what it says it’s like a festival or some kind CCTV in operation all right mate this is the most bizarre thing C any tense it’s just like cars I don’t what that diversion was all about because can’t see any blockages here it’s just all cars and no cars Vans of all kinds no tents weird I get it absolutely bizarre or maybe the tents are in another field I can’t see and this is where the car parking is for the festival really bizarre absolutely weird how the hell do I get out of here excuse me mate um which way out is it uh for the South Downs Way oh is it so I just got there all right CH thank you right like go was right I can’t see no exit Point here hello all right uh can I get through the South Down’s way this way where you well I’m on to Trail mate it’s blocked in it it’s right away do you know which way I’m supposed to be going south Down’s way where do you want to go south Down’s Way South there’s a track it goes through here it’s blocked uh but this you can’t go there is no Road over there so how am I supposed to get out I hope so you can go through D down that way no no no where you came from I just come from a track down there it’s on the trail right it’s called South’s way it said it’s diverted some guy down there said come up here but I don’t is there not an exit down there go there’s an exit there where’s the nearest exit Maybe you can try the back as well you want to take the exit to the road right yeah yeah yeah you can try in the back as well so is that how far is that what’s up okay all right thanks excuse me mate any idea how I’ll get out with here cuz I’m I supposed to be going through there but it’s uh blocked off yeah is there like is there any way out we out we out this this way well I can go out this way go straight turn so I just I just come from that way yeah and I want to go that way but it’s blocked off if there anybody told you to come this way they come told me to come up this way they said there’s a way out up this way but I don’t see any way out maybe you have to go this way H or go that right I think that way yeah this way yeah this way and go turn right there’s an exit there’s an exit up there yeah it’s a exit in the road okay okay yeah all right cheers mate oh yeah do you know is there is there a way out up here I don’t know uh the people running this have no idea what they’re doing man excuse me mate you know is it which way out is there a way out up here or yeah just keep a cheers mate thanks a lot I don’t know what this event is but you block a freaking right away off you people here don’t even know what I’m on about awesome seriously excuse me can I get all of here rain not not what I’ve been doing this Trail but it did rain quite a bit before I had done the trail where you would have seen with all the um puddle and stuff all right no worries mate God it’s it’s actually getting quite it was warm this morning normally in the morning is just towards the end of August quite chilly s mid August at the moment so I’m soon going to change oh this wet grass my tires do not like didn’t come off a few times hitting that so careful on these little narrow Roots cuz like I said as soon as the tire hits the side of them especially CU I’m carrying some weight on the front handlebars tend to get it’s easy for the it to go out of control Wow Let’s go here just stop this lay by folks fantastic view of Winchester down there this there a bin as well got rid of my Rob here s for that guys in there yeah that’s brilliant [Music] Catherine’s Hill Nature is a Club up there and I’m going up all right I’ve got to go up this way where I got to go on this way say okay [Applause] uh which way have I got go up this way or through that way I through this way I’ll go down this way riding on the buy grass to be honest oh on right oh but these houses floods quite often up by this River it’s life sa but right let’s light will go up here ah okay so yeah been some in Winchester might as well go and see the cathedral right be rude not to I think this is it here Cathedral City Cathedral City in the cathedral morning oh wow holy moly oh that looks cool fut oh wow it’s pretty impressive wow look at that wow is this the front of it I think this is the front of it the finds yeah that old van oh wow well there’s the front of the cathedral so first stop train station to here I’ve got plugs there and then if not off to the light library and it’s uphill yes [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] continue on to station Hill Library [Music] know what this is oh is this the Abby is this the Abby I’m just stby what is that what is it the Great hle ah some one by Street one my street yeah Street [Music] St on my street folks I’m going the right way am I going the right way so I was actually going the wrong way down there I supposed to be going up this way so it’s all the way back uphill and I’ve been to the shops twice by the way I’ve got two meal deals that’s L of other things spending way too much we range chicken heads just help yourself have a price on there or anything weird I know free range doesn’t mean free by the way we’re going through the village of Dean there is a Dean in the CSS where the ex PL stay camera not far for me way yep Dean’s very beautiful the village that is all Hamlet it’s a hamlet oh yeah afternoon well we coming into a village and it’s got a pub is it open looks like still in in use yeah still open to see Alfred Holmes that’s called Alfred homes on the Alfred Trail shop here but I’m okay for stuff at the moment but yeah that’s quite nice little shop can’t keep stopping it shops I’m going to be absolutely broke nice Church there he probably got some local stuff in there as well but I still got a long way on the trail to go so don’t want to be carrying loots of stuff prob not really that steep but I’m really feeling the strain pushing it up the hill just now uh quite out of Winchester now so yeah I managed to charge my stuff up a bit two meal deals as I said went the wrong way twice down a hill up a hill down a hill then finally went the right way out of Winchester so there’s a bike there bike okay I’m supposed to be turning here all right yeah right so which way which way am I going okay I think I’m seems to be one going down there am I going this way this way come on are you serious no idea how far it is to Asbury but it looks quite far on the map so maybe that will be the place I sleep there but maybe that’s too close for that but there’s a Corp there I know that right which way am I going well I’m quite high up here the views are great views are great from up here it’s a bit overgrown but it’s not surprising the time of year look at that folks oh God it’s hot hot day another hot day there’s still some tree cover today don’t know how much but it has been so far it’s gone much more quiet now uh I believe I was just on another Trail there was a few people about but it it was a not a National Trail but uh an official longdistance Trail where is King Alfred’s an official longdistance traal they don’t have signs for it by the way guys there’s no there’s not I’ve not seen one sign for this uh this bike ride more Forest Road and more Brits not a problem for this bike this cheap 350 bike although I have added tires and in issue costing about 50 Quid for the both tires and in the tubes so that’s only thing I’ve added to it apart from these little add-ons I got here um and the uh icycle rack I the anything things have added to it still got the original brakes cables the original whales everything else is original another seems like quite a large Woodland [Music] really oh bumpy I’ve got a village coming up in a bit uh don’t really need a shop at the moment so fuel my coffee addiction I mean I got a serious coffee addiction I drink way too much coffee I could quite easily buy more coffee there a shop down here that sells coffee probably won’t even do anything I’m awake as you can awake as you can be with Cathy right in my head I always think oh I’ll get to this certain place or around this area uh for a certain time um I mean I am on yeah I can’t be away for ages and ages as long as I’m back I’m pretty pretty sure I’ll be back by Monday anyway but uh not that I want to get back quick but um I have to and um it’s just nice though to uh not worry about what location you want to be at next because it just like your adventure just becomes another it’s like a routine isn’t it so that Festival from earlier on um I went through had a bit of trouble getting through I think it’s called home H what’s it called oh I got out my head now Buster Fest or something I don’t know I’ll put the name of it in the uh description anyway um uh chilled out about it now but at the time you know you want to I wanted to get to the library for like 9:00 I was going around in circles cuz nobody had an absolute clue of where the exit in the festival was I mean you got security guards and it don’t even know where the exit is I mean how bad is that oh look at that house there plenty of wood for winter look at this down here that’s nice Church lovely place this nice didn’t see a shop I don’t saw a shop thank you so many uh fly bites hey do you know what this this looks like like an Old Railway track it’s going alongside the river a lot of railway tracks did I mean it’s incredibly flat and it is part of the cycle Network I really think this could have been a railway track oh are you all right right you you would not believe how much my feet itch from fly bites I have to take my socks off cuz they’re soaking wet from uh this morning uh cuz well the the grass was very wet in the morning and some parts had to push the bike so I feet are itching oh God I can’t can’t tell you how much they’re itching how it’s a CO what you reckon guys got drink at least oh yeah running out come come on that one’s 5 4 3 2 [Music] 1 it is still incredibly hot way too hot for riding a bike or hiking especially with all the gear I got but you okay carry on I’m not giving up here’s about 28 Celsius or something sometimes this Trail is just so chilled out man well as they say these days it’s just so chill I believe C these Thorns I’m loving these byways you get in England there’s just so many of them you think as England is all been T Max roads but this is where you’re going to bump into like dict Turing the highway man this is the sort of thing is it it’s the sort of thing you picture back in the day when people used to Rob stage coaches so the entire Trail there supposed to be a elevation gain of over 3,000 M and A elevation loss of over 3,000 m over like almost 400 km I’ve probably done at least 400 km cuz I went the wrong way a few times thank you look at that Dove cut in the uh Cemetery don’t know where the churches how cool is that all right okay I’m not going down this way I just realized I’m going the wrong way oh it’s nice little village ni all right cheers thanks oh kned all right so the plan is I’m probably going to Camp up in a bit um I am not too far from Salsbury this trail goes on the outskirts of it I will be paying a visit to alterum I was going to do that today but and got to Stone henges today but by the time I get there the sun is probably going to have set at Stone Henge it’s a shame cuz it’s probably going to be really nice Sunset it’s still quite high up in the sky though they lot Sun see a house on the corner of the woods where I was thinking a camping that’s not great really is it ni house well someone’s getting ready for the winter yeah it’s one of those Woodlands that is fenced off don’t see any signs I can keep help though so I found a spot to camp in some Woods by a Roman Road and after this there’s a little village then another little settlement that it’s the outskirts of um Salsbury go to oldum tomorrow morning and after that it’s along the river towards Asbury Co-op then woodhenge then a slight detour to see a Stonehenge and then back on the way and I should should should be more two more episodes after this I think but I could have done it a lot quicker but it’s just I don’t want to enjoy it so what is the rush I’m enjoying it I I’ll get back on Monday that’s all I need to do only thing is I should have bought some more food like I’ve only got a banana toy tonight I thought yeah cuz I’m going to go to as spre today um it’ll be tomorrow now because car opens at 7 I would have made if I carried on I would have been at a stonee after the sunset probably today cuz to go to the Corp as well so yeah I just start to move for Russian right I’m knacked anyway so right I’m going to get my tent have my banana and a drink and go to sleep
