zachari rash is one of the top contenders to go number one in the 2024 NBA draft this is Florence ceiling let’s break him down zachari rasher has had a pretty interesting draft cycle he started on a down note having struggled for playing time last season and then playing below his potential at the FBA under 19 World Cup however rash’s fortunes really turned when he joined Borg on loan and the French Prospect started living up to the hype that has long surrounded him in international circles gash played most of the Season as an 18-year-old he only turned 19 in April and he’s still set to compete in the French League’s playoffs before the draft so far this season he’s averaged about 11 points three and a half rebounds and one assist in 23 minutes game L’s role is fairly narrow we’ll break that down as the video goes on but his three-point shooting is absolutely crucial the 6’10 Frenchman is shooting a little under 39% from Deep while taking three and a half triples per game gash understands how to space the floor and then he has a quick clean shot that is tough to block given his size and Trigger I expect Le to make simple spot UPS so what has caught my attention the most is when he runs or moves into threes we have seen this at times in transition or out of screens giz has repeatable rapid mechanics and I enjoy how he almost always squares his shoulders to the basket and Rises on balance the Frenchman is very capable of making some high difficulty shots and I believe that he profiles as a very good shooter down the road I’ve seen comparisons to Michael Porter Jr and I think mpj was a more physical Dynamic scorer off the dribble but a role similar to Porters early on in his NBA career is a pretty achievable goal for R the question ultimately is whether he becomes more than a turbocharged third option because prospects like that are not typically number one picks because of R’s Gravity from downtown lanes open up for him to attack the basket the French Wing is not an elite athlete but I think he’s pretty good and he’ll hold his own more than he’s given credit for leash has nice footwork attacking off the catch he gets his Defender off balance often and then I like the flashes of touch that he shown at The Rim in particular I find it interesting how often rasher uses the glass the Frenchman is creative with the angles that he finds and generally I think he uses his height well to finish Above the Rim despite still lacking strength comparing rash to the other top Wings in this draft I think that Ron Holland does not have his steady decision making maras buellis did not have the numbers on his side from Deep this season and the ignite Prospect is a little less physical and finally Cody Williams or Stefon Castle did not shoot the three ball at this level I want to bring attention to how re can attack Closeouts into a three or a jumper it’s stuff like this which gives me more hope that he’ll develop into a very dangerous shooter after all these types of shots are not easy so the fact that he’s comfortable trying them and then actually making them is a great sign sticking within the theme of R playing off the ball he was also used very often as a cutter too often we actually saw teams fall for this same trick where the French Prospect inbounds the ball and immediately makes a sharp cut to the basket yet again liset is a pretty good athlete especially when he has space in front of him so this is a smart way to get him attacking the rim overall I enjoy how active rash is is despite not having the ball in his hands I also appreciate the aggression that he shows with some of his finishes lash has flashed being able to play through contact even though he’s not yet able to do so consistently we’ll dive into that a little later but right now I think he can offset that to some extent using his athleticism to play Above the Rim and finish lobs or throw down some big time dunks this vertical pop also shows up with how the French Prospect tries to do the quote unquote little things even though he almost always plays exclusively off the ball Lisa is not static in the corner he’s engaged and alert and he’s looking to contribute which teams and coaches should always appreciate however it’s in transition where the 19-year-old’s athleticism is most obvious rash was allowed to leak out often in the open court so he used his speed to outrun the other team’s defense and then finish at the basket we saw some acrobatic athletic plays at The Rim from him this season which again makes me point to rash being a fairly good vertical athlete with a Runway he can throw down some big dunks even against pressure and really his biggest physical deficit right now is his strength regardless leash can pick up easy points in transition he’s really scalable and most of all intentional off the ball and young teams who play fast and with their head up should find him especially useful going back to the idea of whether drafting a more complimentary player like V at number one makes sense it’s also worth noting that the French Prospect did show some flashes grading for him self in transition these popped up sparingly over the course of the season but I do believe there’s at least some potential here rash is fast with how he gets north to south and then he can finish with either hand the France Wing has nice touch with his shots off the glass where he uses his size and length effectively to come up with high Scoops at this stage he already has some shiftiness as he loves a behind the back and he’s not strictly limited to straight line drives in the long term ib’s handle being functional in transition and I also expect him to get even better as he gets stronger he already plays somewhat tough in the open court but he should be able to move Defenders out of his way once he packs on more muscle R season has been very good but the bigger question question of whether drafting an off ball player who cannot reliably create for himself at number one still lingers a recurring issue for the French Prospect is that he’s still quite limited finishing at The Rim his handle is not overly Dynamic but more than that he just lacks the physicality to both turn the corner on Defenders and then really impose himself on the inside he still struggles to finish at the basket out of cuts or drives whenever he’s met with strength and length all of this is also what keeps him from being more of a mismatch leaa stands around 6’10 in shoes but he’s still wiry and skinny I don’t think he necessarily plays soft it’s just that his strength right now has its limits being able to post seal or generally bully smaller Defenders would be a nice addition to his game right nower is just not able to do this consistently which also means that he cannot play the four in the NBA and give his team more versatility early on in the league I can definitely see rash’s body being a big Improvement Point although it should be noted that it has gotten better over time this idea of not creating enough space for himself applies across the board to the French Prospect scoring all year long Rashid did not find it easy to create his own shot context is needed he’s an 18-year-old Pro in his first season against grown men but again one would expect some more on ball juice from a potential number one pick everything we’ve seen kashed do well and effectively until now was effectively set up by others be it catching and shooting cutting into the basket or receiving in transition if left to his own devices the Borg Wing makes things easy for his Defender with short one-dimensional dribbles that keep his man in front one could argue that R will eventually just be able to shoot over the top most of the time this could very well be true but having followed him for years now the French Wing has not proven at any level that he is a high volume or if icient shot maker off the dribble self-creation has not been a staple of rez’s game and returning to those comparisons with other Wings I’ve seen more flashes from Holland or buellis for example however the ignite prospects were allowed to experiment in the G League whereas there were countless possessions where RZ stood in the corner and did not touch the ball at all as I’ve been pointing out his role was pretty constraint so it will be interesting to see what he can do with more Liberty because we already know what he can do boxed in taking an optimistic point of view there’s a foundation here to some extent at least but at this juncture it’s hard for me to see him efficiently shooting off the bouns in the short term over the last two years the signs we’ve seen are tiny I think this is worth highlighting because we’re seeing in the playoffs right now that the absolute best players in the NBA can really shoot off the bounce he has a high release point that is tough to bother and he creates genuine distance with his step back clearly the Frenchman has some touch but most of his makes are just straight over his man we’re not seeing too much craft in terms of breaking down his defender or manipulating the defense at this stage in time the big concern here is that if R is not self- sustainable or maybe he does not get stronger or he’s having an off shooting night then how can he add value on offense for the record I expect that the Frenchman will undoubtedly make threes right now he’s at about 39% for the season on three and a half shots per game so let’s see if he can maximize that down the line by keeping his conversion in the high 30s while ideally raising maybe doubling even his volume in the long term if L shot is closer to the 35% that he’s shooting in the French league that would probably be a disappointing outcome Vash will hit his spot UPS the natural progression for him honestly is to continue getting better as a shooter but the real out of the ordinary contribution would be for a 6’1 Wing like him to regularly be able to move into shots extracting the most from riser’s jumper should be vital lastly I want to briefly dive into R’s facilitating the numbers do not tell the full story here seeing as how he averages less than one assist per game a big part of this again is rooll R is not the playmaker on his team so really this is more about his decision making than it is about his passing this season rash has largely acted as a connective playmaker making timely mature decisions and moving the ball smartly The Rock does not stick in the Frenchman’s hands which I like as he usually either attacks off the catch or keeps it swinging looking at the big picture I would like to see if some of A’s more expansive passing flashes mean anything I like his process most of the time and he’s had a handful of solid reads out of ball screens these more interesting flashes also pop up in transition where like I said I think R can fit the modern NBA very well however the French Prospect did have 33 more turnovers than assists this season he still gets bothered by physicality and he’s not a clean ball handler against pressure even if his handle does not get bothered the Borg Wings passing can also be loose or telegraphed however neither his best nor his worst flashes here should be overly analyzed given that it’s a small sample size because of what he was asked to do zachari rash had the best defensive season of any top Wing in this draft the 6 foot 10 Frenchmen averaged one and a half Steals and blocks combined per game but I’m looking beyond the box score what I truly loved was gish’s level of activity and awareness on this end of the floor in particular I want to Spotlight his engagement rotating in the paint and protecting the rim rash is alert like few teenagers I’ve evaluated and he really impressed me this season with his contributions as the low man I also thought the French Prospect was disciplined with how he used his length and verticality in the paint generally managing to avoid foul trouble the Borg Wing is not the longest but he is still 6′ 10 mobile and athletic so I expect rasher to be fine in the long run as long as he continues to time himself well and get stronger at youth levels I hadn’t been as impressed by rash’s versatility or capacity to make multiple efforts so this switch up defending with intensity and guarding across multiple positions was really Pleasant this season Borg used R basically playing one through three and sometimes even guarding fours although not very physical ones shows some flashes at the point of attack as he moves fluidly in space and he has the length to smother drives and pull-ups versus smaller attackers he can also stay attached off the ball navigating attackers to put up valid contests with his length looking ahead it will be very important to discover how truly switchable Lisa is he’s 18 so he’s still very early in his overall development but I think he’ll need to be some sort of a defensive force in order to live up to his draft standing gash is still consistent when it comes to staying in front of guards and then against bigger attackers he is almost always at a strength disadvantage right now this is genuinely problematic because it can mean that rash struggles to stay rooted to his defensive spots zakari rash is a top three lock for me despite not being a typical super high draft pick the biggest worry right now is that there is virtually no self-c creation but looking around at this draft and at the teams drafting first I have no doubt that R should be a top pick as always if you enjoyed this video make sure to leave a like make sure to leave a comment telling me what you think of zakar and if you enjoy the channel if you want to watch more content like 1. The guy is not an elite rim protector, can't create his own shot, cant shoot off dribble in high volume and will never be 1st option or even a star. Why on some draft tables he goes number 1 pick is beyond me. Lottery teams typically desperate for stars, I think he is riding the Euroleague hype.

    2. IDK if anyone else see it, probobably nobody else, but he kinda plays like a taller Doug Mcdermott with much better defense and MUCH better upside.

    3. Dude sucked this year. Had multipole games where he didn't score a single point (not kidding lol). This draft just sucks in general.

    4. Another super high quality breakdown. Your nuance and specificity is a refreshing departure from "He's a bum" culture. How do you view his current downturn in 3 point shooting compared to the beginning of the year? Personally, I'm more inclined to see the beginning of the year as the outlier. If he's closer to a 35% 3 point shooter instead of 40%, does that move him down significantly?

    5. A great family of basketball players. His father, Stephane, was a very good professional player in Europe for 20 seasons and his sister, Ainhoa, was the MVP of the European U16 championship last summer.
