Who says you need a $20,000 rental bike to cycle up mountains whilst on holiday? I picked up the Rouge Lapierre bike from Annecy – an aluminium bike with all the bells and no whistles. I cycled up a mountain in France, and it was absolutely fantastic.
The Tiagra disc breaks performed brilliantly, the Tiagra drivetrain shifted smoothly and she was a sturdy, steady steed. Cycling in the Alps is a dream come true and I’d kind of imagined doing it on a carbon Cannondale Supersix or a Pinarello Dogma. Once I’d released my biases and preconceptions about the Alu bike, I couldn’t have cared any less!
This was one of the rides of my life and I hope this video inspires others to jump on a bike in Europe or wherever they may be in the world.

[Music] this climb just keeps going it’s bloody awesome [Music] woo morning team just wanted to give you a little quick run through of the bike this morning what a beast it is L laier tagra group set aluminium frame and um it’s got this lovely little bell as well you know it’s not a carbon bike it’s an aluminum bike that’s all good on reflection you know I’m only paying 45 who cares it’s going to be good and um yeah off we go [Music] w wow okay I’m just following signs for Shaman here don’t really know where I’m going but had a really nice coffee stop back there got a climb on our hands here I remember completely forgetting about tunnels last time I went to Italy and yeah it’s good good to make sure you have lights definitely necessary so a bit nervy going through here but it’s fairly well lit so just keep an eye out for any cars this climb just keeps going it’s bloody awesome woo I’m racing a lorry here you can see me get nice and tight to the curve second L stay nice and tight clear back woo if voila putting in a bit of a dig here feels good look at that we’re just going with the flow here here this surface it’s not good and bit worried about coming back down it I don’t know which one that is but Jesus Christ it’s impressive climbed quite a way now I can see right down to the the road that I came from it’s miles down there the goal of this is just to get as high as I can so I found myself in a ski resort and I don’t even speak to be honest I’m ruining the piece I’ve never seen a place so deserted moments like these I’m reminded that you know when I’m on when I’m really testing myself on a massive Hill in the middle of nowhere with the most beautiful scenery you’ll ever see that’s when I’m in my element that’s when I’m in my happy place and like I guess that’s that’s really important to observe because through all of this I want to make sure that I’m following enjoyment with this Channel and I’m not just chasing results but I’m really doing stuff that gives me fuel and gives me life [Music] [Music] [Music] oh my Lord let see that’s what we’re trying to Summit [Music] [Music] Jee look at that [Music] woohoo Jesus Christ This is s this looking I’m [Music] real oh [Music] we’re getting there one big climb to finish it off and we’ll be there massive ride day I mean massive for me at the moment anyway 120 K done and dusted and 18800 M elevation incredible ride all done on a budget rental how good the L this baby did did good she did very good
