Los Angeles! Balenciaga presents its Fall 2024 collection by Demna in one of the city’s most exclusive neighbourhoods: Hancock Park. TV reality icon and actress Lisa Rinna introduces us to the avenue and estimates the price of the mansions. It’s all there: palm trees, blue skies, indecently large mansions, and a backdrop of hills and the LOS ANGELES sign. The models will walk down the avenue like real Angelinos. Backstage, they are already practicing their Balenciaga walk. Among them, rapper Cardi B, taking her first steps on a Balenciaga catwalk.
The guests start to arrive. Wearing a black outfit seems mandatory, but they’re wearing the best accessories: here a coffin clutch, there the word HOLLYWOOD in hair, a bluish foundation. And even a wad of cash for rapper Sexyy Red. This seems to have inspired Interview Magazine’s editor-in-chief, Mel Ottenberg. Loic Prigent asks all the guests about the mood of their outfits. Marilyn Monroe 2024. Cowboy grunge XXL. The belle of the Balenciaga ball.
The show begins. The soundtrack is by BFRND but we don’t use it here for copyrights reasons. Model Abdou Diop wears the new shoes: hormone-inflated Triple S. Triple XL. The first looks scream LA chic sportswear. Wealthy Angelinos coming out of their yoga class. Surprise: Balenciaga signs a collaboration with the luxury market Erewhon, “the Avenue Montaigne of vegetables”. Model Amelia Gray lists her favourite snacks from there, the Hailey Bieber smoothie being number one of course. Back to the catwalk. Hoodies with XXL hoods, for stars who want to go incognito or strangers who want to pass for stars. Lace thongs peeking out from matching jogging suits. Passage 67: a blue daydream. Rapper Cardi B walks in a long, french blue faux fur coat. Minttu Vesala, Demna’s favourite model, closes the show in a vvirginal dress with a high collar that covers half her face. Backstage, Demna smiles in front of the live video of the finale and the teams applaud. Salma Hayek and François-Henri Pinault ok Kering congratulated the designer backstage. Soon followed by Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham. And Julien Da Costa talks to Cardi B!

Backstage, models rehearse how to master their BALENCIAGA walk. Cardi B also rehearses her BALENCIAGA walk in front of the other models. Some lucky models have been graced with BALENCIAGA prosthetic lips. Can you talk? A little bit. Not very well, though. Giant boots. BALENCIAGA yoga mat. Pre-wrinkled jeans. We’re ready to not be ready for this take on the LA lifestyle. The BALENCIAGA crowd, is of course, guys with a coffin as a clutch. What’s your bag? Tim Burton. It’s a coffin. Jack Skellington. Evening dress at noon and selfies. Today, we are waiting for the biggest fashion show of this year. Guests with the BALENCIAGA BANG & OLUFSEN Speaker bag. Hollywood sign. Hollywood hair. Blue guests. Hi. This is Joseph. How are you? Mel Ottenberg of Interview Magazine enjoys the kids of this block. So much of the LA look defines BALENCIAGA. And BALENCIAGA is so inspired by it too. So it seems like a great place for the show. Look at these kids! They’re so cute. Hillary Taymour from the label COLLINA STRADA, the queen of US underground fashion, is here. I’m here to see BALENCIAGA! Of course. François-Henri Pinault, the boss of KERING which owns GUCCI, SAINT LAURENT, BOUCHERON, CAA, BOTTEGA VENETA and BALENCIAGA wears black. Wearing black is mandatory. Jaden Hossler looks dashing. Can I ask you what’s the mood of your look, today? Today? I feel like it’s been cold recently. Today is a little warmer. But I like the summer vibe. I’ve been feeling a little sad this past year. This kind of fits that vibe. Covering myself a lot. The actress Storm Reid is in the best mood. May I ask you the mood of your look today? The mood of my look is just powerful! It gives very BALENCIAGA. Quintessential BALENCIAGA. To me, BALENCIAGA is powerful but simple. You don’t have to do too much. This is very simple but eye-catching. I love the pants and the boots together. I think it’s very cool. Not too much but eye-catching. What’s the mood of your look is my question. Marilyn Monroe 2024. The mood of my look? It feels a little cowboy. Grunge. Oversize. Rebirth of the ball. How do you call it? Belle of the ball! That’s what he says. I’m just having a good time. Just had a baby a month ago. So it’s the rebirth of me. Just comfy. A big t-shirt. Cute piercings. You know! Krit Amnuaydechkorn casual in a BALENCIAGA purple bathrobe. It’s a bathrobe from the summer 2024 collection. Stop the traffic, the rapper Sexxy Red is here. May I ask you what’s the mood of your look today? Let me see. Hold on, let me get my money! This ain’t nothing. What are your accessories? The BALENCIAGA warmers. The BALENCIAGA hoodie. The BALENCIAGA shorts. BALENCIAGA glasses. And the BALENCIAGA purse. Hari Nef is about to knock on the doors of those mansions! Look who is coming! She looks like somebody who doesn’t need to knock on any doors. The actor Taylor Zakhar Perez knows we’re in the middle of a real estate dream. I thought we were going to be in the back of a house! And I know people who live on the street so I was wondering whose house we were going to be at. But it’s the entire road. There is nothing that says Los Angeles like looking straight down to see Hollywood. Which is why everybody moves here. What kind of people live here? Super rich, or? Yes, well-to-do people live here. How many millions for this house, you think? I don’t know. This is Hancock Park. Let’s ask Lisa Rinna, she will know. Is this a posh area? Yes, it is. Hancock Park. Before Beverly Hills, Hancock Park was twenties. Where all the actors and rich people lived in the twenties. How many millions for this one? Twenty? They’re all about ten million. You’re in a good place. Nicole Kidman wears a BALENCIAGA haute couture dress. She just signed this morning as an official BALENCIAGA ambassadress, hence the picture with Cédric Charbit the CEO. Where is Demna? Backstage. Panicking, right? No, he’s cool. He’s chill Hi! Can I sit next to you? Nina Garcia. The Kissing Booth and The Act superstar Joey King stops for a quick official picture. Kendall J and Kim K arrive. They’re obviously filming an episode of their show. Backstage, even Michal from La Mode en Image production company is in BALENCIAGA. Right before the show, we had an impromptu chat with the BALENCIAGA CEO, Cédric Charbit about the strategy of this presentation. Why is coming to Hollywood important for BALENCIAGA? We talked about it with Demna last April. He was telling me about what kind of collection he wanted to make. How influenced he was by American design. And by the influence of the USA and America globally, at large. So naturally, we discussed showcasing here in Los Angeles. It’s yours? Wasn’t me. Merci beaucoup! Thank you, gracias. De nada. Lisa Rinna enjoys the BALENCIAGA soundtrack by BFRND that we won’t use here for copyright reasons, sadly. Abdou Diop opens the show. Casual opulence. BALENCIAGA gym towel. Nylon stretch shorts. Absurdly giant leather-free sneakers, they’re called the 10XL. The whole crowd wants to know who the hell is he calling. I’m opening the show. I give the rhythm. I’ll try to follow the marked track as we did in rehearsals. The set is incredible. Phenomenal. It looks like a movie set! Eliza Douglas, the Demna Muse, now seen as a LA girl going to her yoga class in BALENCIAGA. Black spandex turtleneck and leggings. Malibu glasses, Rodeo bag. Can you talk about the shoes? They’re bigger than ever. They’re comfortable though. Khalil Ghani. The first section of the show is about sports. The athletic LA. The LA with pecs. Very surreal. The houses of people looking at us. And we’re looking at this. The symmetry is amazing! It feels like we’re on a set. But it’s a real street. That’s LA, isn’t it? Simone Embrack. Sports bra. Indifference. Caffeine. What was the most LA element that you noticed in the collection? The coffee in the hand, ruffled hair and sweat suit. Oh and the EREWHON bag that my friend made. Aggressive big chains, it’s called the Pitbull necklace. The surprise collaboration of this collection comes with this bag. It looks exactly like the black and beige shopping bag from the cult epicerie prestige EREWHON, a LA obsession. EREWHON. EREWHON is a market where everything is high quality. And it has high prices to match the high quality. I don’t shop there. It’s a little too pricey for the shopping. But the hot food, the ready-made food is really good. It’s the best health food market in the entire world. I probably eat dinner there most nights. I ate dinner there last night! Smoothies, snacks! Anything I need, I go to EREWHON. What’s the best thing to buy there? That I can’t get in France? You’re not going to like anything there. Because you’re from France. That’s the thing. I like the gluten-free mac and cheese. I like the Korean short ribs from the hot bar. You have to go to the hot bar. Get the Hailey Bieber smoothie. You heard it here first. What do you buy there? I usually get the Mint Chip Energizer smoothie. But with coconut milk, because I recently became allergic to almonds. I ate almonds so much. This is actually insane. If you eat something too much all the time, you become allergic. And almonds were one of the only things I could eat because I have a weird f*cked up stomach. So I was eating almonds every day. Almond butter. Almond milk. One day, I ate almonds and had a huge allergic reaction. My doctor said: “You ate them so much you became allergic.” What do you buy at EREWHON? The raw vegan cake. It’s a chocolate raw vegan cake. What does it taste like? Well… chocolate. Really? At the end of the day, it’s just like chocolate. But four times more expensive. It’s a bit like the Avenue Montaigne of the veggies. The cup is actually called the 9 AM Clutch. Yes, it’s a kind of minaudière in virginal calfskin. This hoodie is called Incognito with a trompe l’oeil capuche. Capuches, hoodies are a big Cristobal BALENCIAGA thing, who was inspired by Spanish monks’ imagery. The brown of monastic austerity that you can find in Zurbarán’s paintings that Cristobal Balenciaga was The constantly referencing in his couture creations. relative abstraction of a sportsweared brown monk’s robe… The scarf is integrated as a hoodie. The famous trying to look anonymous, or the anonymous trying to look famous. Creating invisibility visibility. The Austrian Stella Lucia as the first California blonde of the collection wearing the iconic velvet tracksuit of LA. A lace thong, lace was dear to Cristobal Balenciaga who loved folkloric Spanish mantillas. I love my outfit. It’s very fitted and it’s very me. What drink is in this BALENCIAGA cup? This is a chaï latte. So comfortable! You had the thong coming up from the sweatsuit! The EREWHON bag! Welcome to my world! Hello, this is my life! I hate to admit it but I am her. Welcome to BALENCIAGA. A thong but in jersey for Max. Y2K LAciaga. Paris Hilton will appreciate it. Her bag is called the 24/7. It’s made of recycled nylon. Remarquable walk, a BALENCIAGA walk. The BALENCIAGA walk is always about the destination. The floor might be slippery, icy, a rough ground, but she will get where she needs to be. Which is, her yoga class. I saw a real BALENCIAGA jumpsuit. With the boots. I’ve seen a couple of things I gotta get. This is not a trompe l’oeil but a highly visible BALENCIAGA jersey thong. This is pure BALENCIAGAthleisure. And it works, when you talk to celebrities in attendance, they all associate BALENCIAGA with COMFORT. Comfort fashion. Easy to wear ready to wear. Oh I love his work. Especially if you like to be comfortable. It’s like high end comfort! I’m here for it! Romy walks like her boots are so comfortable she’s bouncing. Romy is from LA. I love that Demna is willing to take risks. I love that he’s having a little joke at LAing. Because I’m from LA and people refuse to take the piss out of themselves. So someone else has to do it! What do you think of the set? Of this venue? I’m slightly underwhelmed. Because I’m from LA. I thought we were going to go somewhere more spicy. But you know! They’re showing off the palm trees that we took from Hawaii… getting their money’s worth. It’s great. Ewan Murray in cream technical velvet. I thought the show was my whole entire wardrobe, but better. Those outfits are my dream outfits. That’s what I wear. It’s 9AM, and they’re vocal frying on the phone. Who are they calling? Turtleneck crop top in viscose and mini mini cycling shorts/skirt in crepe jersey. I think Demna has created a sense of cool that we can’t really put our finger on. And it’s always changing and evolving. In a way where you just understand it, for the cool people involved. Loïc Paulmier in a distressed lingerie top and a satisfyingly puffy Monaco sling bag. On him it’s oversized and on her it’s a fit mini skirt, totally corseted for bodyconification. The quilted Monaco bag is one of the big moneymakers of the BALENCIAGA company. I love BALENCIAGA. I think anybody that loves fashion loves BALENCIAGA. It’s always a statement. That’s cool to me. I like to make statements in the things that I do. Alison Vanderbilt’s bag is a version of the iconic Cagole, redesigned as an XXXL tote hybrid. Her large shirt in cotton poplin is a redesign of the super famous Cristobal BALENCIAGA barrel-line, of 1941 and 1947. And The cocoon line. Letting the body breathe. The idea of space between skin and fabric. SANG WOO KIM in pajama pants and a beanie. Céleste! She couldn’t look more LA but, she’s French! And she’s a chef! I’m not usually that into fashion. Really? What do you do? I’m a chef. A freelance cook. Right now I’d like to do some catering. Work as a private chef. What’s your specialty? Beef and oyster tartare. With salmon eggs on top. That’s my thing. A giant cocoon of a bomber jacket, that will redefine your silhouette and how people talk to you. They’re always pushing boundaries, and that’s what I love. I can’t do anything that is stagnant for too long. I also love this kind of oversized world that we’re in right now for somebody who’s always been kind of leaner and had broader shoulders. It fits me so well. It’s right on the cusp, I think it’s like right on the razor’s edge of what’s to come. Kevin White in the boxy mega hoodie called Incognito. BALENCIAGA Spanish monk meets LA vibe. Or is it the veil of the Virgin revisited? Religious references were a recurring theme in Cristobal BALENCIAGA’s work. Mariacarla Boscono as the BALENCIAGA boujee biker with sandals. The Statue of Lliberty, but the one in Paris, on the river Seine. Typical Demna layering. I think he really changed the way that we all dress. The proportions. The silhouette. Demna thinks about what people actually wear on the street! And I can’t imagine what half the people I hang out with, how they would put themselves together if Demna hadn’t come around. Turner Barbur in bicolor pants called the Fifty-fifty. Distressed leopard knit that’s a typical BALENCIAGA chic paradox. The holes in it will be reproduced to perfection, on all the versions sold in BALENCIAGA stores. Belt with bottle caps as medals. Her shoes are hotel slippers but as mules, clogs. The banal, the mundane made chic. Penelope Ternes with a Monaco chain bag. Again, the cotton towel of the hotel slippers as mules. Something that is usually free, now at BALENCIAGA prices. Luxury is always an agreement between the person who buys and the person who sells. Darling, I shrank the BALENCIAGA coat in the dryer… A coat that got shrunk. Ladies and gentlemen, Brigitte Nielsen. She modeled for Helmut Newton and Thierry Mugler. She’s a tantalizing symbol of the 1980’s Los Angeles and Reaganomics. Sunset glossy thigh-high boots. Platinum Brigitte Nielsen walking down the BALENCIAGA street is a quite pure Demna for BALENCIAGA idea. When you walk down there, everybody is gonna watch the platform stilettos with jeans. And this tight-fitted, how dare you kind of shirt is just to die for. And the thing is, you’re allowed to feel very comfortable but very sexy at the same time. I mean, I’ve been doing movies for 40 years, and now I’m doing a fashion show with a Hollywood sign in the back. It is iconic, it’s a fantastic thing. And I think all the stars that are watching the shows are gonna appreciate the vision that Demna has behind the whole thing. Jay Pak as the yellow Lamborghini owner going shopping on Rodeo Drive with her pink tweed jacket and matching mini skirt. Demna gives you the faux croco you consider luxury. I feel like it was both making fun of and celebrating LA culture. Which I love. To be a part of it, you need to be like “This was embarrassing… But also I’m so happy to be here.” Bibi Hoad with stocking panta-leggings and glittery black tweed skirt. Her Monaco bag is full of scripts. The BALENCIAGA logo is BB, and this look is playing with the other logo with two letters. I loved the show. I thought it was really beautiful and funny. I thought it was really good commentary. I appreciated that there were still beautiful pieces and pieces that felt avant-garde as well as there being gym clothes and EREWHON bags. It makes you think. It made me think. Anna Juvander in white tweed and silver buttons. It’s not a cup but a clutch! Jarno Parkkima in the largest boxy jacket! The best-seller, as Kim Kardashian is already wearing it in the first row. Lace panta-leggings in light beige and black mat jersey. Walking with her, a momager in an imposing shoulder-padded suit. Qin Lei calling her agent. The shoe she’s holding is a BALENCIAGA clutch. Surréalism. Some of it was being a business bitch. Sort of calling. I was seeing a lot of that won’t work, I’m never gonna do that deal. And then there was also like, honey, I’m on set. I can’t right now. There was lovers, there was business associates. It was great. There was a range. Olof Källström wears the first piece of the BALENCIAGA and JACOB & CO collaboration. This first ever high jewelry line for BALENCIAGA is called Diamant. Spelling BALENCIAGA on a necklace with diamonds, each of them set by hand, on 18-karat white gold. Alex Consani is the Marilyn Monroe of the day. A sterling silver key holder as a chunky necklace. The suit is all nylon. Agel Akol looks like a Selling Sunset episode directed by Tim Burton. BALENCIAGA has this edge to it. I think a lot of other brands don’t. So you can feel sexy, completely covered up, and not show any skin. And I think BALENCIAGA really encapsulates that. Supermodel sensation Kit Butler in a velvet number. Vineeta Seshasai Maruri holding the train of her knit killer dress. They’re gossiping about you on the BALENCIAGA runway. I think my outfit is glamorous. It is very pointed. It’s sheer, it’s cunts. It makes me feel powerful. All of the things. A lot of the collection is really trans, gender queer, people of color and it’s important to push that to the forefront. And he’s not afraid to be creative and really take risks. We’re in the tuxedo capital of the world with daily red carpets. Ivo Raspudic in a boxy double-breasted formal coat, perfect for a Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award. And you don’t need to give a speech, the tux talks for you. Who says thank you, anyway? Supermodel Liu Wen in a tank top gown followed by this hypnotizing geometric train. An evening tank top gown with a snake train and her stiletto clutch-stiletto. Such an amazing collection with amazing people. And also the weather is so good. She’s followed by her BALENCIAGA bodyguard in a Matrix Cosplay moment. The asymmetric bodycon number for the teen idol at a premiere. Available in fluid velvet. “La fuite à Varennes” Parka drama and giant big black knot for Elle Dawson. Very much giving the hangover after the Oscars where she won but forgot to thank her parents. A Los Angeles vestal. Semi-fitted gown in black crepe jersey. Impeccable cat eye and black lips by makeup artist Inge Grognard. Małgosia Bela got the off-shoulder fake fur coat, wearing it like a bathrobe. Passage 66. The sublime Jules Santiago. A puffer coat, but a grand, Cristobalissime black velvety shiny nylon puffer Coat. Passage 67, Cardi B in a royal blue fake fur off shoulder coat. She walks with curve panta-leggings in black spandex. Cristobal BALENCIAGA dressed a lot of celebrities in Hollywood like Alma Hitchcock. Marlene Dietrich said the first fitting at BALENCIAGA is as good as the third fitting elsewhere. We reached out to JACOB & CO and had a beautiful feel. So we decided to work on a collaboration. Jewelry is not a savoir-faire that we master at BALENCIAGA. Cardi B wears many pieces. They will be released, showcased and for sale today. The swag of Krystal Ortiz in a draped as a simple knot, bustier dress in shiny coated jersey. Again, Demna playing with what kind of fabric you’re used to consider as luxury. Rouguy Faye is the extravagant dove in a riot of dirty white satin organza petals. The all-over sequined Rain Bonnaire holds the shoe mocassin that is a clutch. Perfect accessory when you need a conversation opener. I love it, are you kidding? It’s glamorous! Like, ah! The rigid satin corset cut in a spade shape on Meadow Walker almost hides her necklace by high jewelry makers JACOB & CO of 18-karats white gold and diamonds. Looks like it could be a reference to a 1951 model, revisited. Rich clients used to come to BALENCIAGA with their new necklaces, asking for dresses coordinated with their sapphires or emeralds. A game Cristobal loved to play. Passage number 73, Minttu Vesala. High collar for a high priestess. Minttu Vesala learned to walk this way on the icy slippery sidewalks of Helsinki. It was so Los Angeles. It was my LA but then it was Demna’s LA. So it felt like this zoomed-out version of what I lived in Los Angeles. With a twist! A euphoric Demna enjoys the finale. Backstage, the teams applaud. Demna does a quick press junket. Ok. So were you making fun of LA? A little bit? That’s how people often perceive my work…As ironic. Actually, it’s the opposite. François-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek congratulate the BALENCIAGA designer. It was absolutely beautiful. Thank you. We came all the way to Los Angeles. And we’re so glad you came. I want to buy a lot of it! Thank you. I hope so. Same for Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham. It was so cool. And so LA. You did an amazing job. Thank you. We came all the way for it. Well you killed it. It was amazing. You should be so excited. So nice to meet you! Thank you for having us. Samira Nasr from American Harper’s Bazaar emerges from backstage with Tracee Ellis Ross. I loved it! I love where we are. I loved the casting. I loved the clothes. The spirit. I loved it. I love that they are getting bigger, because that’s what I like! Kim Kardashian congratulates Demna. Hi! Cardi! Thank you so much. No, you were so professional. Really amazing. Can I ask you how was it? It was good. Amazing. What do you like about BALENCIAGA? About Demna? His designs, of course! His designs are everything. I talked to Cardi B! Voilà this was my BALENCIAGA report for fall 2024 in Los Angeles. 1. Bonjour Balenciaga ! 🙋🏻‍♂️
Et surtout un immense merci pour ton travail aussi pointu que complet ainsi que la bienveillance dont tu fais preuve à chaque contenu que tu proposes depuis toujours et, je l’espère, à jamais 😄🫶🏼

  2. well i like the show as a conceptual artpiece. It does great in kinda holding up a mirror to and ridiculing the audience. And its amazing how they eat it all up and pretentiously kinda praise balenciaga to high heavens. All these fashion victims are too preoccupied with staying relevant to realize that the actual fashion is ugly garbage (with one or two exceptions). Or maybe that is the genious of the brand. Convincing rich people to wear ugly stuff as a symbol that they dont have to care about looking good or what people think how they look.

I mean it feels like Balenciaga is doing one thing over and over . The message behind the shows might change and adress curren issues, but the actual fashion they are pumping out feels derivative , uninspired and redundant.
