This race started Saturday 5th August 2023 at George Square in Glasgow and finished some 3 hours later at George Square after 127.2Km of racing.

I’m not into watching cycling races but as my wife had an appointment with Optical Express at 1.30pm I brought along my trusty Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ2000 to capture some footage.

We parked at The Glasgow Royal Infirmary due to all of the road closures and walked it to 200 St Vincent Street, where Optical Express are based.

Turns out that was a great spot! Whilst my wife was being “seen” to (excuse the pun) I caught the pack coming past on the 1st lap and then realised if I walked 100m up a side street I could catch them going down West George Street after traversing Glasgow’s West End.

A wee bit of back and forth between the two locations, the bikes became more spread out and I even caught a nasty 3 bike crash on camera. Once of the fellas had some graze on his thigh but all were ok and continued on their way after a quick change of bike.

After the consultation we walked back towards The Royal and I caught footage from various angles. There are places with great TVs to watch the action as you’ll see at the end.

All in all I found it a very interesting day and I would head back today for the main men’s race but have a prior filming commitment in Perth.

Really enjoyed it I must say and hope this gives a taste of the excitement and of Glasgow!
