like their best chance to win ashes in years it was not the winter that England and molan were looking for either after overcoming certain defeat to produce one of the best test wins in England’s history mccolm side would struggle throughout the rest of the series and lose the next four test matches so does Brandon McCullum deserve more criticism than praise under his tenure England failed to regain the ashes despite having a brilliant chance to against an Australian team that was faltering England followed that up with a very poor Series in India where they were comfortably beaten in the final four games we saw plenty of England’s players struggle in both series and this team still needs some changes considering the age profile of some of his crucial Stars one of the other points which people like to ham it on about is when it comes to England’s head coach is the team struggles in limited overs Cricket since he took over while molum has helped England produce exciting Cricket with historic results the T20 and ODI sides are in terrible form England lost the crucial ODI Series against Australia South Africa and the West Indies in the last 18 months as well as disappointing group stage exit at the 2023 Cricket World Cup since winning the T20 World Cup in 2022 England have had embarrassing series defeats to South Africa Bangladesh and the West Indies supported by piran amount of talent in that limited oversight and mod seems like the right guy to lead them forward off the back of two disappointing test series you can understand why England fans might have been looking for more from this side but it seems like everyone has already forgotten the long list of Records broken under mccullum’s leadership in that very first test series England were breaking records they became the first signed in test history to chase down three scores of over 250 against New Zealand the following series was the first time ever that England have whitewashed a series in Pakistan even in the series where England have been disappointing they are still producing record-breaking performances the ashes saw countless England players break individual records with the fourth test match being the first time since 1985 that England have reached 500 in a home Series in the last 18 months alone England have produced the top three fastest batting Innings to reach 500 runs in India England became the first sign to ever defeat the home team in hydrat that was thanks to overcoming a massive first Innings deficit of 190 there’s also a case to be made that England fans are getting a little bit ahead of themselves considering the heights that basball has produced already can understand why the expectation of this England team or where they’re at but I think a lot of fans and critics are forgetting how bad England were before Brendan mccolm took over England had a stretch where they lost four consecutive test series not long before the New Zealander took over that streak they won just one test match and it was the end of Chris silverwoods time in the role when molum took over this was a team nowhere near the top of test Cricket they lacked confidence purpose and a proper winning mentality while they have stumbled recently Brandon mccolm has still gotten so much more out of this England Squad than previous coaches he has returned to England to be one of the top teams in test match cricket who can beat anyone on any given day on any track they are dangerous Home and Away something that cannot be said of England under the previous leadership basball is not just a success because of how much better the team has played but it has had such a positive impact on individuals Captain Ben Stokes has already been clear that the philosophy behind it is about playing with no fear and always playing to win which is what we’ve seen out of some of England’s newest player McCullum has revitalized this England batting lineup Zack Crawley and Ben Ducket certainly have their weaknesses up front but have provided a fast start for almost every Innings under molum crowy in particular has improved massively since molum took over o Pope has made the number three spot his own including a masterful 196 against India to help England win that first test match Joe root is playing the most exciting test match cricket of his career and the batting lineup as a whole is thriving under mola in 2022 England had full players in the top 10 for most runs in test Cricket despite mixed results last year that number only dropped to three in part because England played fewer test matches than Australia who tell the top four the bowling lineup has been excellent too but has not had quite the same success as the batters that is in part thanks to difficult bowling conditions and a constantly changing lineup it highlights one of the main reasons why a little bit of patience is needed with baskball Brendon mccolm is trying to revolutionize England cricket India and Australia have available you can see why they were able to get the better of England in the recent test series still there’s no doubt that basball has been a huge success for England in Rob
