oh this is what the van likes though there a nice nice long run yeah with the V power you oh yes Amy ‘s 2024 everyone loves a road trip and we’re heading into Amen to look for our perfect parking spot and here’s Lou he’s enjoying a little ride in the trolley and here he is in my bicycle he just loves this looking out searching for anti the good thing about the night before the market starts is some of the dealers start unpacking and this is a perfect time to kind of have a little ramble around and see what there is you can see how much he’s loving it some dealers are happy to sell stuff at this time of night but you always best to ask so we’re just having a quick look around here this is one of the main squares and the next morning it’s all open the Sun out and although it’s early it’s cold but we’re all trying to get a good look in you’ve got to search every stand because as you can see there’s a huge variety some people specialize like this person in glasses other people just have a random selection just laid out on the floor it doesn’t mean it’s worth any less as you can see it’s been raining here and so sun has now come out but it’s still freezing cold um and I’m just showing you round some of these stalls and there’s a little wet doggo and we’ve left Lou in the van cuz he just gets a bit hungry when it’s somebody’s half packed up oh yeah cuz they were selling packet stuff I mean this happens in the UK as well the weather’s bad and the dealers all miss out watch until the end of the video where I’ve included a map of all the streets in Aman that were included in this market now there is some new stuff for Indian new stuff and then you’ve got sellers like this who you know they probably live here [Music] those are great actually yeah good for log baskets look at the massive basket at the back big snake I was going to say what would you actually use it for though sneake Charming uh this one see the one opposite he’s lost his horse look look and so our Quest continues looking for Treasure all over the streets of ens it’s very hard to see everything but you just have to keep going round and round up and down the same streets you do end up over the whole day that you’ve seen the same thing two or three times or the funniest thing is when you see something on the back of someone’s Trolley going back to their van what’s this I’m filming you filming you filming me Johnny’s now hot footing it back to the chips stand aren’t you baby then we spotted some midcentury Ceramics and started having a quick look and then everyone decided that they were going to come and have a look at exactly the same thing whenever we stopped to start looking at something everybody else stops and they’re trying to work out what it is we’re looking at there is a lot to see these markets and it can get a bit overwhelming so you just have to keep walking keep looking and see what you can [Music] see that’s actually quite a good chair baby isn’t it but the guy that went past was Kevin I was just going to speak to him but he was in a hurry he normally stalls out here no different Kevin Kevin Kevan Frenchman well he lives up near Leo he might be Belgian actually chips oh yeah no we haven’t been down that one right concentrate on what we’re doing no we came around that way oh that’s quite a spectacular Corner cupboard if Corner cupboards were popular that would be a thing to have and you can see the French shelf edging can you see it oh yeah that is actually nice babe always a good idea to check the backs so has a little bit of repairs but then you can you can actually see then for night you know if a thing is old and if it belongs together okay have a little walk down this way the market isn’t too busy at this point so we’re keeping on going seeing what we can spot but we’re very aware that it is going to get very busy very soon amen’s is a very hisy hisorical City it’s beautiful to just actually look up and take in some of the architecture one of the best things about this Street Market is there is absolutely tons of stuff there’s pretty much something for everybody definitely worth a go if you want to have a weekend away that’s not too much of a drive from the tunnel to make it easier I have attached a map of all the roads that were included in this market or were included April 202024 this way you can plan out the streets of where you want to stay where you’re going to park and a bit of a route about where you’re going to go this is what you used to get is boxes and boxes of like handles and tiebacks and now everything’s priced individually you just don’t see the volumes that you used to see before tons of textiles at amien this year not actually one of my specialities but I know that lots of you love the Fabrics we’re going to go run this way although most of the streets are cobbled it’s actually quite easygoing because everything’s mostly flat there’s a bit of an incline at one part of the town but generally it’s a fairly flat Market as they go the types of dealers at amiens this year did seem to vary a great lot we had private individuals who’d literally come with like car boot type stuff through to very professional dealers who obviously do quite a lot of antique fairs and everything in between so it really is a mixed bag and you do have to just keep on searching through this time we really tried to look into all these small cabinets to see what there was in jewelry small bits of silver and little decorative pieces was actually quite interesting not something I’m that used to but I’m learning These are nice look brid and groom yeah there any point of me getting that right okay and so our Quest continued onto a next table that had some really pretty little French Ceramics this little porcelain cup was sweet little staring oh yeah yeah I think they’re all sweet that something they not sure that’s that old no I don’t think any of them no so difficult when it’s you know know like a little broch I think it was good looking in the small cabinets when the sun was out certainly made things a bit easier but this wasn’t going to last very long that’s quite good look like a bar look it’s got bottle holders in the bottom yeah notably this time there was a real lot of stalls that had a lot of midcentury items some a bit more mid-century than others probably from like 1940s to 1990s so it’s worth having a really good look at stuff but stick to the same old rule which is only by what you like can we go back and get chips now it is worth noting that this big fair at amien is pretty much like we used to have carnivals or Village Fates so all town is open all the bars and restaurants are really relying on a busy trade on this Sunday market everything’s open it’s really Buzzy you’ll find a huge variety of street food as well as the usual bar restaurant brazer type foods as well don’t need to B most places you just queue up or just walk in I really hope this video is going to show you how big the city is how much walking we did and how many stalls and how much there is to see and around this point it absolutely chucked down with rain again we went back to the van had a quick change and then came out again the two folding trolleys that we’re using at the amen’s market I’ll try and put a link below so you can see them the orange one is slightly bigger and a bit more robust but folds up quite small and then the black one folds flat but they’re both really good and actually invaluable for the these markets I think it was probably due to the weather that the market was very patchy in places there were areas that I’d known in previous years that were full of stalls that this year were pretty empty or really gappy and a few of the dealers that I actually went looking for were just nowhere to be seen there were some of the streets in fact where there had always been stalls that there weren’t any stores at all I found some sweet tins to buy but I only had like a € 20 note and the dealers had sold so little that they had no change but we got there in the end I usually have a whole purse full of euros 2 coins for all these Street Markets but I think I’d spent them on the last trip across it’s quite nice girl with the thought you might like those said I thought you might like those the streets are now starting to get a lot busier and a lot of congest gestion in places and it was starting to get a bit difficult with the bikes and the trolley so we’re going to start make our way back to the van and ditch the bikes the bikes have probably been their best in the early mornings before the streets get really busy cuz we can whizzy round everywhere see it all maybe buy a few bits and save our legs because believe you me there’s a lot of walking this guy even fancied having a ride in the orange trolley at one point foreign speech foreign spe is that a no [Music] wherever you think babe I’m totally whatever you think yeah point in that direction [Music] oh this used to be mom and I always used to buy these we used to have a competition who could buy the cheapest one every year at Le actually my mother reminded me that the competition was who could sell theirs first when we got back to the UK which apparently I won but I don’t really remember it was so long ago oh there’s a pair of parrots look blue ones oh look there’s some look Orangina things these really caught my eye but I actually have no use for them whatsoever yeah those parrot things so they don’t don’t look very good no okay that’s cute isn’t it look the chocolate here must fre yeah it’s also really good fun having a look around and seeing what else people have got in their bags and what they’ve got in their [Music] trolley you have to remember that at a big market like this people come from all over Europe they’re not only people with small shops big shops there’s film people there’s private individuals collectors doesn’t look quite the same when everything’s like covered up with plastic does it enamel signs are still quite a big thing at the French markets and then we come into this square area where there’s this this huge Hotel DeVille I don’t think it is the one they now use but it looks just like a beautiful chatow right in the middle of the city there’s a couple of dealers here on this area they’ve been here for many years and I made a few purchases I’m not going to show them on the video because I think they get lost in time but they may well be on my Instagram or my website I should have the links to those below so now I’ve managed to ditch the trolley completely so I can have a quick look around this bit this area was pretty difficult to film because it was actually really windy um Johnny bought a few bits uh but it was so windy all our conversation was just like wind not wind wind like blowy wind oh God that maybe came across wrong but you know what I mean we had to cut that sorry at this point if you have any questions you really want to ask me pop them in the comments below the video and I’ll do my best to answer them Johnny just loved looking at all the old cameras he’s got a few but he just intrigued to know if he’s going to find something really good one of these markets I guess that’s what it’s all about treasure hunting actually while we’re on the subject of discoveries and treasure hunting what do you call it do you call it antiquing bonting picking what’s the term that you would use for going out treasure hunting at vintage and antique markets on the weekends thrifting I feel is more clothes vintage clothes secondhand clothes oh I love these little pictures I think they were cut out of a much bigger picture but then the backs looked old anyway they were very decorative I bought something on this stall I wonder if you can work out what it might have been the funniest thing is when I’m going back through these films looking at everything I see all the things I didn’t buy and that I should have bought so frustrating should have would have Coulda saw a few bits just then that I wish I’d bought now not that I definitely should have bought that table base I don’t know what was up with me then I know that I could have made that into something really nice I was kind of steering away from garden stuff I think it’s just the Terrible Weather we’ve been having in England and off we cycled up to the end of this street and then into the next Square we were there in just a matter of minutes here I come I’m a bit wobbly still I think it’s cuz I’ve got my right knee doesn’t really work so it’s all a bit higgledy piggledy we feel like the Famous Five bombing Along on our bikes couple of Nas oh this was a Japanese thing they had loads of Japanese stuff on a stall and all hanging out of the building it was really really pretty as I was saying you end up going around the same streets again and again although the city is Big you just know that stuff will move around dealers will get a bit more stuff out of boxes or move it around you actually see it and it’s that whole thing you think you’re going to miss something so you end up going round and round or up and down and you got to remember the market is on from very early on Sunday morning until tea time so you’ve probably got 12 hours of buying looking looking again checking what’s coming what’s going that’s the whole thing wow he’s got a lot in his trolley we tend to go backwards and forwards to the van quite a lot I mean I’m buying quite a lot of oil paintings and things just now so they easily get damaged especially if they’ve got really super framed on them so I’m packing them back in the van near enough as soon as I buy them the most frustrating thing about filming is every time I kind of think I’m going to get a good shot a whole load of people walk right in front of me but actually this bit was really good considering it was quite far on in the day oh there’s a lady in front they had some really good stuff on this stall pretty certain they’re regulars in this area on the on the big [Music] Square there was an awful lot of the bamboo furniture this time some not quite as old as others the storm was kind of starting at this point and things were starting to Flap around a little bit there were a few things got broken before it really started with a Vengeance so I am here in the one of the main squares in amen and I’m about to take my sunglasses off because it is actually raining now it’s been freezing all day um and now the wind has got up there’s been a few dealers have lost mirrors um yeah so uh I’m going to go now and go and retrieve my paintings and rush back to the hotel yeah I I quite like that new down there the pencil pencil they’re all they’re all freshly framed but they’re all very foxed he’s nice little doggo Chey choppy I like the black and white photos the Dogo as well he looks a bit odd when you get close to him solders they’re the same as Marie’s ones she had yesterday but I exactly the same yeah I didn’t just so you know we did get the old chance to get a drink and we were so lucky to hear Oasis Live at the end of the market at amen this [Music] year hello I’m Polly from French
