[Music] what’s up guys it’s Sam from cycle technology outside today nice weather at the heworth we’re doing a check checkpoint comparison to see first of all what can you actually do with these bikes and second of all which one’s best spoiler alert it’s not Dan so thought we’d start with my checkpoint couple of questions I asked myself before I built this up was can I put 155 mm BMX cranks on it and can I put four pot brakes on it using flat Mount post mount adapters the answer is yes it’s also got 650b wheels on it DT Swiss obviously Maxis receptor 45 mil wide tires dropper post again cuz I like doing tricks bontreger line Pro pedals and ODI dreadlock super soft grips if you think about a stock Trek checkpoint what that looks like and then look at this you’ll see that you can basically do whatever you want with it this is my bike absolutely love riding it great fun moving even further away from the stock we’ve got Neil’s bike over here so moving on to Neil’s Trek checkpoint slightly older model and I’ll explain what’s different about it in a moment I think we can all agree this is the best looking bike out of the bunch it’s got no brakes no gears no fuss obviously it’s a single speed fixed gear that’s how Neil likes to ride is’s a bit of a retro Grouch uh the reason this bike’s easy to make it single speed is cuz it’s got sliding dropouts you don’t get that on the new model which is the one that I’ve got but the older one perfect for turning into a fixie should you choose he’s obviously got again DT Swiss wheels and hubs he’s just put the brand new Trek Jona gravel tires on it we’ll have to see how they perform in the real world but brand new from Trek pretty decent Tire by the looks of things not much else to say about that cuz there really isn’t many components on it I think it looks absolutely amazing Neil likes riding it and it’s definitely the best looking one so beauty of this one is if you work in a bike shop like Neil does and you’re absolutely sick to the back teeth of fixing bikes this is the one for you cuz it’s got nothing on it that can go wrong really just ride it for years and not even have to oil the chain it’ll still be fine and then we’ve got Dan’s TR checkpoint which is the most disappointing of the three if I’m honest but probably you know what it was more built for in the first place same frame color and model year as Neils uh but it’s got racks on it drop bars awful um proper gears front and rear gears yeah what else can I say about it to be honest like if I was going white bike packing I’d probably want to take that one and and put some you know say some stuff on it but for the type of riding that that we we do usually it’ll be one of these two um no surprise there Dan’s Bike it’s the loser it’s the worst out of the bunch so on a serious note though if you were to buy a Tre checkpoint out of the box it’s probably going to come looking something like this with drop bars with a grx group set and so on we’ve got three alloy versions here but there are carbon versions available if you’re super into your gravel riding um but in case you aren’t guessed it the point we’re trying to get across here is that these bikes are super versatile we’ve got my city commuter bike knels every day easy to maintain single uh single speed fixer and then Dan’s gravel come bike packing uh setup that he’s got here and you can just as easy as well throw a set of road tires on these and just use them as an everyday road bike they really are a great allrounder as long as you’re not looking for suspension these bikes can pretty much do everything so there you have it TR checkpoint cooked three different ways rare medium rare and overdone we’ve shown you what we’ve done with our checkpoints the only question now is How would you build yours
