Airgun World editor, Dave Barham, talks to BSA’s Jon Hatton about the new R12 takedown rifle, as well as a sneak peek at a new BSA springer rifle.

[Music] we’re on the BSA stand with John Hatton and there’s something rather interesting here in a case what’s what’s this all about John yeah this is you’ve heard of the R12 and SLX and CLX thank you for saying that this is the compact version we’ve packaged all in one set um basically this was born from uh Pest Control customers and professional calls with professional controllers that are going out and doing rat and rabbit and P pigeon jobs and various premises around the length and breadth of the company who wanted a high capacity rifle that didn’t want to walk through public places clearly carrying a gun case with them so they said can we have a compact one high capacity gun gun so we think we R12 perfect um this is the superc carbine length barrel my favorite what we’ve done is we removed the Shroud right we’ve put on there we’re including the silencer in there which you can clearly see yeah it’s a 440cc bottle carbon fiber bottle that we’ve added to that nice um obviously making it lightweight giving it maximum capacity so you’re going to get about 300 shots out of this yeah no problem um so it surpasses the larger bottle that we have on the other r12s behind you’ve got the Black Edition stock and the beauty of this one in 20 seconds you can literally attach the stock through one single stock screw right the um we call it the um the quick dial screw there a bit of a dial on the bottom um put the action inside the stock tighten it up as I say 20 30 seconds you’re done brilliant and you’re ready to shoot well that’s pretty handy than is it yeah so we’ve paired that with a 3 to 50 scope yeah um and we put in two magazin and the tin of pellets as well to go and he comes with the silencer all in this hammer drill style or Power Tour style case yeah it’s like suitcase isn’t it yeah yeah much easier to stick in the boot of the car I should imagine than gun in a I don’t know what you like but I have to fold one of my seats down to get me guns in completely and even if you’ve got quite a large car often you have to fold the seats down and put it lengthways sticking into the passenger area um this will fit in almost every car boot I imagine um it’s it’s it’s small enough to do that equally not everybody’s got a lot of storage at home no so um you know this will go under a bed at the side of a unit and um won’t take up masses of space BR so what’s it called it’s the R12 classified we’ve called it BSA internally have called it classified I think it will be known as the takedown the R12 CLX Takedown rifle um and it’ll be available by about early April not the first of April the second of April right and um uh it it’s retails under 1200 quid really so it’s not that much more expensive than not much on R2 a tiny bit literally 20 25 quid more getting the sil get and all these extra extra benefits with it yeah brilliant well hopefully we’ll get one in to the magazine to have a review on cuz I’m rather interested to see how quickly I can put it together and take it down so yeah keep your eyes open for that the R12 CLX Pro takedown brilliant nice one cheers John cheers Dave well I’ve just been walking around the BSA stand here uh looking at all the lovely rifles and I had a little chat with John earlier on and he showed us uh that lovely new takeown rifle but I’ve just popped over here and I’ve seen this now John didn’t mention anything about this and uh BSA have a habit of doing this at shows um they’ve got previous form trust me they’ll bring a rifle here this is obviously going to be a new launch but they’re not shouting about it you know there’s no new new launch no new sticker it’s a lightning CLX Walnut brake Barrel um lovely bit of wood on it here but uh yeah this is something I’m going to be quizzing John about at a later stage after the show because this is definitely a new rifle and uh I want to know more about it there’s no price on there or anything so yeah keep your eyes open for the lightning CLX Walnut brake Barrel because this is a new brake Barrel from BSA

    1. I have an Air Arms S510 Ultimate Sporter. It has one bolt to remove the stock. Maybe if I purchased a square case, removed the silencer, and removed the stock, and popped it in the case I could say I have an Air Arms S510 Ultimate Sporter R TAKE DOWN RIFLE. The so called new BSA takedown rifle is already considered a bit of a joke on the forums and not surprised.

    2. I seen that clx lightening break barrel and indeed the stock was beautiful..I hope BSA make it in Birmingham and hopefully it's made to a high standard internally… They need to put a tuned rifle feel on the market… hopefully this is it..

    3. BSA, best scrap available. This company is a joke now , the r12 plague with magazine issues from such a once great company to share holders wanting more returns for little investment.

    4. A massive forward step for BSA – a gun that comes in a strong case making it easier to send it back for repair. What a waste of time they really are – in 50 years I have never struggled to get a gun in a car.
