Welcome to this first ride in a little ‘mini-series’ of point-to-point cycling, working round the compass points from where I’m based in Northwest England. I’ve really enjoyed completing these rides and each one has thrown up different challenges and some absolutely fantastic cycling!

Fifty miles is a modest distance for some, a great target and milestone for others. Wherever you are with your cycling I hope you enjoy these little clips I’ve strung together and maybe even try your own point-to-point ride, whatever the distance!

    Happy cycling folks!

hey folks very warm welcome to this 50m pointto point bicycle ride series here’s ran base just slightly Northeast of Manchester up in the wonderful penine Hills and this little series of videos I’m going to set a 50m radius around home then travel out to the perimeter the very limits of that radius and do a point-to-point bicycle ride all the way back home and we’re going to work around the clock face or the compass points with a ride starting in the north the East the South and then a classic ride back home from the West Coast hope you really enjoy this series let’s get into today’s ride [Music] oh good morning folks I hope you’re doing really well welcome back to another little video and what’s going to be the first in a little series of 50 m pointto Point rides and we’ve just jumped off the train here in Horton in rbbl sale it’s just one of my favorite places on planet Earth as I’ve mentioned many times in many other videos and uh we’re in North Yorkshire in the Yorkshire hes uh it’s the county where I was born so really feels like coming home every time I’m up here and uh we’ve done a little dance to the weather Gods this morning they haven’t provided us with sun but uh we’ve got a no rain forecast it’s pretty cold so as you can see the the beay jacket is staying on from higho 2 to L warm up but uh yeah dry all day and uh reasonably favorable wind I think as well so yeah really looking forward to today we’ve got a really interesting ride I think uh really following the river Ribble down through stainforth and settle then we’ll head out uh towards Wigglesworth Wiggles Wick Wigglesworth I’ll have to check the map uh into the Southeastern corner of the forest of band uh and then the climbing really begins for the day big climb up over the nicap Pendle which I’ve never done before but I’ve seen on others videos and looks fantastic uh and then another big uh series of sort of Step climbs up from Burnley into the panine hills and then heading through bakeup Whitworth uh back down towards rdale area we’ll go through rdale out the other side for that Big C at the end of the day so yeah come along for the ride pun intended and uh as ever I’ll do my very best in this ride in this little series just to give you a flavor of the area of the UK where I like to call home I like to do my cycling and uh yeah I’ll catch up with you very shortly after I’ve warmed up let’s [Music] go like holy water like Sou rain and the drought it’s all over now when daylight comes over the long night open right it’s all right [Music] [Music] [Music] been holding my breath for a moment to [Music] breathe let the new day come wash over me the TI’s going to turn now finally I am free oh I am [Music] free well some absolutely fantastic miles so far and uh shared a few with uh cyclist from Clyo shout out to uh Clyro guitar studio and Mick if you ever happen to uh watch this thanks for sharing a few miles with me uh this is Pendle Hill off to the sort of left and I’m kind of guessing I don’t know this road that uh the famous Nick of Pendle is somewhere Dead Ahead we’re definitely going to gain some height here so get the legs ready get the lungs ready let’s go all [Music] wor like a stone to and but never alone I [Music] kep wow that looks bloody steep in real life I’m sure that looks flat on the camera [Music] [Music] been holding my breath for a moment to breathe let the new day come wash over me oh my word look at that going to turn I am free oh I am free been holding my breath for a moment to breath [Music] what a climb I love you the t’s going to turn out I am free oh I am free o o wo now ni a Pendle what an absolute belt of a climb that was an amazing descent back up to the hills now okay that’s us through uh padum now and got about 4 miles of pretty solid continuous climbing up into the penines and then we’ll be dropping down towards bakeup onwards [Music] [Music] [Applause] we’re on the high tops now and we’re going to drop down through we towards bakeup views for miles sh okay safely through breake up there and we’ve done the climb out of Baker up to uh Britannia very much in my local Hills now maybe 10 to 12 miles with some downhill for that big cup of tea well I’ve just come uh slightly off the road um really to sign off this little video thank you so much for following along if you made it this far in the video and uh yeah it’s been a cracking ride uh a few bits I haven’t filmed today um so the gears were playing up um when I got off the train so died and to settle into the Three Peaks uh bike shop and uh just got them reindexed really quickly um I think the rear Mech or the rear derell has got slightly bent on the train perhaps um we actually had five bikes on the train even though there’s only space for two um shout out to Northern kudos to them for letting everybody on uh but there was a little bit of kind of Argy bargy with the bikes and uh I think mine uh mine might have come off the worst for where uh the other thing that uh I didn’t film was uh right on the top of Crown Point uh my seat just decided to come loose which has never happened before uh so I spent about 10 minutes freezing my knuts off trying to get that sorted out um it’s okay uh it’s not dialed in uh exactly right so I’m sort of aching and feeling it in places where I shouldn’t really shouldn’t um but I’ll sort that out when I get back so yeah the mic’s been a little bit uh poly but uh it’s been a fantastic ride and um that’s really what what I want to get out of these 50 m point too rides it takes you way out away from um the roads where you’d normally do like a from the front door 50 m Loop um and it’s sewing up some quite interesting cycling and because I’m trying to stay true to the 50 miles and go quite directly from the uh the starting points you know I’m going through really really Scenic um sections that Nick of Pendle climbing descent is absolutely fantastic and I can’t wait to do that again absolutely loved it um but it’s also throwing up some different kinds of riding and uh I think you’ll see in the other videos in the series uh lots of different sort of terrain lots of different challenges uh that these pointto Point rides are throwing up so yeah as ever thank you so much for watching uh please do consider liking and subscribing and um I really do appreciate every single one of you that follows along and supports the channel um just reminds to say stay safe take care and have your sacking and I’ll uh see you on the next 50 m pointto Point ride very soon bye for now [Music] [Music]

    1. Great concept for a series – shame about the bike storage issues. It's always a worry with non-reserved bike transport – hopefully the Settle pit-stop will have sorted it out. The ride itself was superb and the way that the layers of hills opened up when you crested the Nick o' Pendle was amazingly cinematic.

    2. Like the idea, will give it a go in the summer, take the train into the wind and have the wind at your back home 👍
Some stunning footage you were able to capture,

    3. Super idea for a series and using the train (which I must try) to broaden the landscape. Look forward to the other 3, especially the southern one, you may pass through my neck of the woods.

    4. Had a seatpin saddle issue a couple of years back. Saddle started moving about, got off the bike and got toolkit out. Next thing the saddle is in my hands and I have a broken seat pin, fatigue fracture right thro, fuck what a nasty feeling, I was 40 miles from home. Somehow managed to raise the pin, sit the saddle on top and bungee it into a state where I could sit and ride home. I would advise you to have a close look at the seat pin/saddle combo you have, just to make sure there is not a serious failure brewing.

    5. What a great idea. You have the transport connections there as well. I could probably do that here in Sydney but it might be a bit of a faff.

    6. Another enjoyable video, great to see you riding my routes in my area of Burnley. You passed within a stones throw of my house. Looking forward to checking out your next 50 miles 👍

    7. Great video and looking forward to the rest. I’ve become very fond of this part of the world. It all began many, many years ago watching programmes such as Last of the Summer Wine. Would be interesting to do something similar in southeast London. Don’t think I’m the right person for the job but perhaps someone out there may take up the challenge.
