We booked a short break in the Gower from Tuesday 26th to Thursday 28th September 2023 – unaware at that time that Storm Agnes would arrive to throw her weight around on the Wednesday of our holiday!
Undaunted, we still went, and as it turned out, the weather wasn’t as bad as we’d feared. We managed a long walk each day and these included the whole length of Rhossili beach over to Llangennith, over the headland to Fall Bay, and, on the Thursday morning, a trek over the causeway to the Worms Head.
Hope you enjoy the video of our three days on the Gower!

Looking at the BMC SWC guides, there’s just under 300 graded climbing routes in the Rhossili coast area. Ranging from VS 4a, to E8/9 8b+.
VS means Very Severe, being a bit harder than a scramble with care needed.
E8/E9 means Extremely Severe. E1 being desperate for non climbers or a grade that average modern climbers attain in a few years. At the moment E grades range from E1 with three sub grades; to E11 with seven sub grades. I used to lead E4/5 and solo E3.
Climbing areas and routes, often but not exclusively follow a theme. And are nearly always described from right to left. This area has a number of crags, named Black Wall, Castaway Cove, Evening Wall, Keel Buttress, Kitchen Corner, Mermaid Wall, Platform Area, Poser Buttress, Seamen Wall, Sheepbone Wall, Shipwreck Cove, Sinister Sister Zawn, Terrace Wall, Worms Head, Yellow Zawn
Approach notes for Rhossili:
Park in National Trust car park. Access via the beach. Just by the side of the 'Worms Head Hotel’ is a path that leads down to the beach. Go down to beach and then walk several hundred yards to the first of the crags, i.e. Black Wall.
Well it’s taken me a week to watch all of it. But it was well worth the wait and the dipping in and out. What a great walk and such fine views. I’ve never been out on the Head… I really must go.
I think people who live in windy places, must have stronger clothes pegs. And a keen eye for when it’s going to change from just blowing, to when it’s going to actually rain.
Thank you for bringing us along for another great trip.
Brilliant video Jeff. So pleased you and Janet got to walk to worms head. Looks like a nice area. When we went we could only do the shop. I must go and do more exploring next time.
Nice video Jeff! Mum chatty as ever.
So dramatic compared to a few weeks ago. It’s how I imagined it would look with stormy weather. Well done getting over to the island!
Eddys Cafe, which is by the Camping site in Llangenith, is well worth a visit.
Hi Jeff. I envy you as you have some great places to visit in Wales. I've added this to my ever expanding list of places to visit in "Jeffs Visiting Guide" 🙂 I love the beach and those walkways but my other half would probably not venture as close to edges as I would. She probably has more common sense than me. I must compliment on choosing the beer battered fish n chips, my choice almost every time. Great vlog again Jeff. 👍
Wow…I’d have certainly twisted my ankle and fallen onto the rocks and into the water on the way to Worms Head! 😮Good job guys!
