Welcome to our new life in Nice France!

I must apologize for the sound on this video. It is a bit up and down and the wind was terrible. While I wanted you to hear the wind, it did make it hard to hear us sometimes. If you click on the setting for subtitles, once you start the video, and turn the the subtitles on, you’ll be able to see what was said. Even though they are generated automatically, they follow fairly well.

Hi! I’m An Scott. I’m a happily retired 70 year old woman with my “golden years” on the horizon, living the “good life”, whatever that is on any given day, with my fun husband Jeff, and our “bossy” little Yorkie, Bella.

We have recently moved from the USA to the beautiful south of France and made our new home in Nice France. Moving from the USA to a foreign country is no small “project”. Through my videos, we’ve been taking you through the process, sharing the steps, talking about what we’ve learned and the ups and the downs. And now, we continue to share our life, our new life, here in Nice, getting settled, adjusting to the “French” way of doing things, dealing with the French “red tape” and all the while, making every wonderful day in Nice, the best day ever…

    1. The "ugly" tomatoes are actually a variety called "heirloom" tomatoes. They come in several colors – red, yellow, orange, green – and are best eaten raw on sandwiches or salads rather than cooked. More flavorful than a beefsteak, roma or tomato-on-the-vine variety.

    2. I am watching with my husband Bryan. We have made the decision to follow in your footsteps. We are learning French and have started to prepare our house for sale early next year.

    3. The photo of the man at the bottom of the Statue of Liberty looks like it might be Alexei Navalny, a popular Russian political activist who recently died in prison in Siberia. He led a movement against Vladimir Putin and many believe he was murdered to prevent him from gaining power. There is a 2022 documentary you can watch on many streaming channels including YT to learn more about him.

    4. Happy Birthday Jeff and Congratulations to you both on your anniversary! May you enjoy many years and have a healthy and happy life together. Keep exploring Nice and we look forward to hearing more about how you are settling in in the weeks ahead.

    5. Happy anniversary ! Nice vlog. But be careful when filming people, we have a law here called " droit à l'image" ( same as most EU countries). You should have the explicit authorisation to film someone even in public space, like the guy in the bagel restaurant, authorisation for filming and for publishing on internet.

    6. It's wonderful to see you two settling in! Whenever you dine out everything looks delicious. I will be retiring to Nice in the near future and your videos make me so excited about my upcoming adventure!

    7. Happy birthday Jeff! I’m watching with my husband and we are getting excited and counting the days to our return this summer. Nice Festival has been rescheduled to August but we found another venue in Antibes to enjoy while there. French lessons have begun. Abientot!

    8. Jeff & An how I loved watching this video. I enjoyed it so much watching you two going places around Nice, the bagel adventure, dining out, the market (loved seeing what fruits and vegetables are in season and their prices). Most of all I loved loved that you did not mask the sounds with music, but allowed us to hear the sounds of Nice: people talking in restaurants and on the streets, the wind blowing, and the liveliness of the city. Hearing those sounds makes us feel as if we were right there with you. And Happy Birthday Jeff. Wishing you many many more healthy ones!!

    9. Thanks so much for sharing – looks like you're really settling in! FYI, the photo of the man under the Statue of Liberty is Alexi Navalny, Vladimir Putin's political rival who was imprisoned and recently murdered by Putin's regime. It was heartwarming to see him honored in Nice…

    10. Thank you An and Jeff for this upload. You guys look so happy and content to be living your best lives in beautiful NICE. Hopefully, we'll be thee in Sept. for around 12days. As for the bagel, I've yet to find anyplace outside of NYC where you can actually get a decent bagel; bagels should be dense and chewy and a lot of folks think a round bread with a hold in the middle is a bagel. We miss NYC bagels because we lived in NYC for over 30yrs. So, enjoy the croissants…you're in the right place! Little Bella looks very contented to be with her people. The food looks delicious. I love the market and all the lovely flowers, fruits and veggies. Heirloom tomatoes are great with bagels, cream cheese and smoked salmon.

    11. Even if you've only recently settled in, you're probably starting to develop certain habits, like food shopping for example. When I moved to a champagne-producing region, I picked up some new habits and started drinking champagne on a much more regular basis, whereas before it was reserved for very special occasions. The United States is a major wine producer. What is your wine culture like? And do you think it might change after you move here, given that prices here are really quite low, and you can find everywhere and a lot of choice, including American wines.

    12. Bonjour de Rome, An! Congratulations on your arrival en France et à NIZZA (Italian name)! 😊 Your bagel does look “delicieux”! I lived in southern France, years ago, but I haven’t yet been to Nice! Keeping my fingers crossed for visiting in the coming months. 😊 ❤ France_Italia 🌳🌳
