Welcome to Sensible Secondhand Classics, the series where we take a sensible classic car worth between £1000 and £5000 and put it through its paces in a very straightforward manner! This time we are at the Great British Car Journey in Derbyshire and we have access to the museum as well as the Drivedadscar.com experience. This 1994 Ford Granada (Scorpio) 2.0 LX is one of the cars which are part of the experience, and so brace yourself for some cones in a slalom (again), and generally little of any consequence at all. Nothing untoward then!

    1. Sir, this was the easiest of Mr. Manning's rear seat challenges yet. What a lovely, big comfortable car. A dying breed these days, at least within the affordable sector. 1990s police drama going to an industrial estate….Spender, perhaps?

    2. This was nice to see. The velour interior would have been what was fitted to earlier mark 3 Ghias. Reasonably well specced for the base version.

I think this particular Granada would benefit from a set of genuine Ford wheel trims. Would make an ideal budget wedding car!

    3. Thank you Joseph,. With Essex being very much Ford country, these were used in the 2.8 version for Traffic Patrol cars. They were well equipped and comfortable, with good reliability and plenty of luggage carrying capacity. It was nice having the rear wheel drive and the degree of control it gives the driver.

    4. Kinda tired car for 1994, still such a pleasure to see mint one. Those were very competitive in late 80's. The biggest mistake for Ford of Europe was making both saloon and estate bland looking.

    5. Great review, thank you, sir! Your mention of Tony Bastable was a real time slip! I remember him on "Magpie", and that he was a regular car reviewer on various 80's shows and was regular presenter at UK car shows. I feel very old now.

    6. Great cars. I had a G reg Ghia albeit unfortunately only a 4 pot with the 115bhp but had a rare full RS body kit. Also lacked cruise. Would have loved a manual V6 but think it was only in the 4×4…?

    7. I am not usually a Ford fan but I do like that! The space and comfort are, in my book, worth a lot.
The colour coding of the maintenance points under the bonnet is an excellent feature.
