It’s getting colder and the nights in the tent are fresh. We leave Belgium and cycle through Luxembourg for a very short time before we decide to take the train for the first time. A short detour to Saarbrücken in Germany follows, but then we continue through France. On the way we find a truck scale and we just can’t resist… How heavy are our bikes?

    1. Legumes and lentils have lots of protein. Best part is you carry them dry. Soak it in the night and it will be ready to cook by next morning. Or soak it in water in the morning and cook for lunch.

    2. 3C is not really THAT cold. You should be able to dress for that. Wool socks, riding shoes with overbooties (even just waterproof), good warm gloves or mittens for the hands, thermal underwear, layers of woollen jerseys, a windproof rain-jacket, a good cap under the helmet (Showerspass Raincap, or a nice merino skull-cap) should be plenty, and if you need more a scarf will always keep you toasty warm. But above all, do NOT wear jeans. I cycle in winter in lycra-merino blend cycle tights, always toasty. I even use these in the snow when XC skiing.
