We’re back for Episode 3 and I have to say, I’m loving the comments from you guys on these videos. Me and Watto are loving this new concept and it’s going to improve every week, so thanks for all watching and sharing your thoughts!

In this week’s ep, we took inspiration from the comments and we’re analysing a mistake of my own! This comes in Man United’s BIG 4-3 Derby win over Man City in 2009 and my error which allowed Craig Bellamy to score…

Tottenham’s Vicario has come under heat from set-pieces recently and we look at two goals he conceded against Arsenal in the North London Derby.

We look into Andre Onana and the penalty incident, Wes Foderingham being beaten by Alexander Isak and a sloppy bit of play with his feet from David Raya to allow Spurs to score.

There’s also some goalie love for Onana and England’s Jordan Pickford as they make TOP saves!!

Just to be very clear again…..We aren’t goalie bashing here, we’re just explaining what the goalie could have done differently and discuss if the outcome could’ve been different 🙌🏼

    1. Love these insights. One question though, I know keepers are now ball players and are supposed to keep the ball and pass, but when they get into a difficult situation (Raya) why don't they ever just clear the ball? Just hit it our far, or out the sidelines? They never do that anymore.

    2. Nah I’m sorry the Ben White stuff is illegal. Must be within 3 yards of the ball to shield the play which he’s not. If Vicario smashes him in the back to move him and White goes down it’s a PK. The issue is VAR! This used to be called by the ref all day before VAR, but now the refs hold their whistle and let VAR decide and they don’t have a clue. How are you allowed to just back into someone without even attempting to get to the ball. It’s crap, and this is coming from a Chelsea fan

    3. That’s amazing, guys!
So professional and useful information, even on professional lvl coaches close their eyes on such things, but that’s very important part how we(goalkeepers and coaches) can learn and develop our skills. Thank you!

    4. Honest question Ben. How can Ben White trying to take off Vicario's gloves be justified? I'm fine with the man marking but impacting a players attire and taking their attention off the play should be considered cheating in my opinion. If messing with Vic's gloves is fine then untying players boots, pulling down their pants or even pulling off someones headband (Raul Jimenez etc) be fine under that same logic? It's purely cheating, Arsenal did it all game and I don't think the argument that 'Vic should be stronger' can't apply because he shouldn't even have to deal with that in the first place.

    5. You really make me appreciate all the skill and foresight that goes into modern football. Looking forward to you two having additional tools to help us understand. Thanks!

    6. Amazing stuff guys! One small thing, can you play the full clip of the goals first and then get into the analysis. Also, slowing down the cut between frames would make it easier to watch, as I currently get a bit sea sick from the frames cutting too fast.

    7. I would have liked to see you discuss Ederson hitting a Nottingham player the way Onana does and why it wasn’t given. Just to see a comparison

    8. For the third Arsenal goal I think what it really highlights is Vicario's age. He hasn't masteted any of the 'Dark Arts' yet.

I think other Goalkeepers woukd have just toseed White out the way, held on to him to make sure he's offside, or even step into the contact as White runs in and make a huge fuss (he comes in a lot quicker then most players do). I'm not saying any of these things definitely would have actually done anything, but he doesn't seem to have any of that in his game.

    9. Completely disagree. The keeper needs more protection from the officials in situations like this.

Listening to the commentators at the time saying “he should move” is absolutely bizarre, because if he moves, he’s taking himself out of the position he’s set himself in (in what I call the sweet spot) all because you’ve got a c*nt of a player trying to obstruct you… why should a keeper have to move from the best position he can be in between the sticks, because of unsportsmanlike behaviour like that?

Given the importance of the position, the keeper needs to be protected by officials in situations like this.

And on top of that, Ben White needs a slap for trying to undo his gloves.

    10. Love this corner. Your last comment about feet to save was astonishingly similar to hitting volley in tennis. Footwork is everything. Thanks for such an interesting piece.

    11. Love the analysis, breaking stuff down into the micro moments is exactly why i love goalkeeping. What you said at the end about footwork is spot on and i honestly think Jordan Pickford has the best footwork in the world at the moment. His ability to get around the 18box and across the goal line is unmatched in my opinion. I always bring up Pickford clips when I'm coaching youngsters to illustrate how much of an efffect footwork has on making saves

    12. A little tip for corners wirh someone on you. Start right inside your net. As the taker is about to take the coner you move out. Either the attacker blocks you from inside the goal which the reff can see or he tries to engage you as you come out in which you have the momentum meaning you have an advantage
