It seems the UK can’t stop copying America. The election for the Mayor of London is coming up on May 2nd, so we all get a letter in the mail with each candidates manifesto. Many talk about wokeness, DEI, knowing what a woman is, getting rid of environmental protection – of course the most important things concerning most Londoners. Few offer any real solutions apart from lip service to affordable housing, many want more cars on the streets because… wokeness bad???

I take a look at some of our wonderful candidates which look to give current Mayor Sadiq Khan a comfortable route to his third term in office.

    1. If you drive in London you know that if the limit is 40 the traffic is moving at 30…maybe 33 if your lucky. When it's 30 there is an idiot doing 20 and that what that road becomes… now that it's 20, I actually want to die every time i need to get anywhere

    2. The term "sex-based rights" seems implicitly sexist. Human rights should be rights for humans. There shouldn't be Special rights based upon physical characteristics. Accomodations, sure. We can have a discussion about that. But special rights? None of us are free until we all are free!

    3. This is the first first by the post london mayoral election introduced by the tories to give themselves a leg up but has now been destroyed by the weird candidates, also khan ain't great but by god the other choices..

    4. Anti Woke. Just say racists. There's no other reason they hate Khan…maybe religion…but it's just because the brown man made them cry.

    5. Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke Woke

Now I'm just bored of counting how much woke was said in this video. Damn that lady is the type of crazy ripped straight from the US.

    6. Goddamn the UK politics are totally dystopian. "Social democratic" party are right wing god-fearing anti wokesters and Labour Party members consider the Cass report for LGBTQ people a revolutionary guide for treating them… Wow

    7. Two grand ia a joke.
We're far from rich. But we invested all our extra money for a vw campervan, whixh gave us a little freedom tk escape rhe city for a little bit of nature, massively helping our mental health.our van passed every MOT emmisions test.
But beacause of an arrbitray decision, we now have to sell our baby, the best thing ive ever owned as it gave us just a little freedom from the craziness of London.
I was born and bred in South London. I voted (and even worked for) Labour.
Never again. Ill never vote Tory but at this point Count Binface seems the most sensible option.
£2k scrappage scheme for a £7.5 insured camper. Are you kidding me?

    8. this is such a clown contest lol …

my local council is up for 2nd May elections too and the Tory leaflet we got through the door was such a joke (photocopied, super fuzzy scaled up text and images, spelling mistakes and crap grammar, and yknow Tory)

the terminally online American political speak is sssssoooo tiring, no one knows what half of it is … any political statement which says "woke" immediately makes me want to burn it down

    9. "Woke" is a concept from the right wing tabloids, who use it to describe anyone to the left of Liz Truss.
It's now meaningless-it's just an insult used by the right. On the bright side, you can get a good laugh from the loony candidates al gibbering about how they're the most anti-woke..

    10. Who's that jackass at the beginning? How does he not make the connection between the clean air AND the years of successful ULEZ? Western civilization is so embarrassing.

    11. None of these idiots seem to think that “motorists” are not an endangered species, people who drive also use public transport and, shock horror, are pedestrians. As for the over use of the word “woke”….

    12. When the Britain First candidate can't even spell 'usage' [useage] correctly on their leaflet. I think it'd be a big gamble to give him control of the country's capital city. I'm guessing from that he's not very details oriented and that could be problematic when he's given many millions of pounds for a budget.

    13. There's no rational reasons for Londoners not to switch to electric vehicles as soon as possible. A big city is the absolute optimal e-vehicle scenario.

    14. A London politician going "people will be judged based on their character" sounds like she's introducing a new program where she'll personally judge you all on how good your character is. It just doesn't mean in the UK what it means in America.
The Americanization of European politics is a scourge. We need to ridicule these people.

    15. I appreciate you covering this. It’s always interesting for me to see how the UK continues to echo some of the worst of US politics and vice versa.

    16. My car is a 2004 Renault I paid £700 for in 2018. It's ULEZ compliant. I can somewhat understand complaints about having the change your car but it's not as difficult as people are making out to get a ULEZ compliant car.

    17. Hilariously all these clowns running on similar platforms will just split the vote.

Also trashing your city is certainly an interesting way to win votes.

    18. Someone has to stop islamisation of this beautiful island which is fast turning into a third world when with mayor next to her lady claims street where ulez operate air is more cleaner than next street where it doesn't, how woke and stupid is that

    19. Hi all- I’m new here. Saw this on my feed and thought this is interesting. I studied British History between 1951-2010 at college for A-Levels so I know about SDP (well the original SDP is – and it’s nothing to do with Christian politics at all).

The original SDP was formed in the 1980s as a social-liberal party, it was Pro-Europe and progressive and yet also centrist leaning. It originated because of a split in the Labour and Liberal Party. At the time, the Labour Party was led by Michael Foot who was a socialist leader which polarised the moderate Labour voters and encouraged them to vote for Thatcher while the Liberals were on the decline.

The party was formed after the first incarnation of the SDP, created in 1981 by the "Gang of Four" – all dissident former ministers from the Labour Party), voted to turn its electoral alliance with the Liberal Party into a full merger of the two parties. They include: David Owen, Roy Jenkins – who as a Labour cabinet member passed the 1960s social laws which banned discrimination against homosexuality and race as well as enforcing the divorce and abortion acts, Bill Rodgers and Shirley Williams – who was the daughter of Vera Brittan who famously wrote ‘Testament of Youth’ after WW1.

The new Social and Liberal Democrats (SLD) party thus gained all of the records and assets of the original SDP. They were predicted to storm the 1988 Election – with a majority winning out Tory and Labour strongholds. However, three sitting SDP members of parliament — David Owen, John Cartwright, and Rosie Barnes — did not join the SLD, opting instead to create a new 'continuing' Social Democratic Party. They were joined by a minority of former members of the original SDP. The new party was not alone in having members who rejected the merger with the Liberal Party to form the SLD: among Liberals, Michael Meadowcroft led a breakaway faction which created a new Liberal Party the following year which would become the Liberal-Democratic Party (Lib-Dems).

The 'continuing' SDP was dissolved in 1990 in the aftermath of a by-election in Bootle, in which the party's candidate received fewer votes than Screaming Lord Sutch's Official Monster Raving Loony Party. Nowadays, SDP is a tiny party now that has developed into a populist protest party which has now gone further right and batshit crazy than what was the original SDP were. Makes me sad to see. Roy Jenkins and Shirley Williams would be turning in their grave.

    20. I literally dont care about london and it's politics. Coming from the north, londoners get too much compared to the public services and opportunities we get…yet i still watched this lol. The SDP rep for south Yorkshire here said "im not politcally correct but im morally right" or something like that. Its ridiculous…but people will vote for them because they have no education.

    21. The SDP are a left wing party (Traditional left). I imagine that they will want to build affordable housing, as this is a major economic issue in the UK at the moment. A lot of people who are left wing (more trad left), are sceptical about woke, reductions in freedoms and making sure rights are upheld for all. DEI is creeping into the UK and a lot of people are concerned about this. The SDP manifesto reflects this. Read the SDP manifesto and you will find they are very much a left wing party. (I have and many of their policy ideas are quite based and sensible – I'm very much on the left of the political spectrum).

    22. 12:51 When I was young ( you’ll have to carbon date me to get my real age), the original SDP were in their infancy, pushing a lot of sophisticated political blurb that can fool young impressionable minds. I was fooled for a very short time, and quickly went back to supporting Labour. This current incarnation of the SDP/Amy Gallagher also propagate bollocks, only theirs lacks the sophistication of the original SDP.
PS even though I’m older, can still get fooled, Sir Kid Starver, enough said.
