On this week’s episode on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, we are joined by Newcastle United and England winger Anthony Gordon.

Gary Neville meets Gordon along Whitley Bay beach and start off with the first part of quick-fire questions, where the Liverpudlian opens up about the importance of psychology and meditation has had on his game.

Gordon made a huge decision to move to Newcastle from Everton in January 2022 and talks about life at St James Park under Eddie Howe, his own ambitions and the clubs goals as he enjoys his most prolific spell in professional football to date.

With the upcoming Euros and having made his senior England debut in March’s international friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, the 23-year-old will be looking to replicate last summers achievements that seen him named player of the tournament as England lifted the under-21 European trophy.

Lastly Quick-Fire Questions resume where Gordon reveals his best goal, who he’d want to take a last-minute penalty to save his life and which former-team mate Gordon reminds Gary of in terms of self-confidence.

    1. Good to see Gordon do so well at Newcastle. When they signed him I got loads of stick for saying 40mil was a great deal for Newcastle as Gordon had loads of potential and would become a goal scorer…. Needless to say, I had the last laugh!! (:

    2. He actually does remind me of Trent in a big way . In his confidence his intelligence how professional he is. Im kind of took back i didnt think an Evertonian scouser would be like that 😂😂😂😂 only buzzing lar . Top lad .. Good luck lad. Up the reds. YNWA

    3. Completely changed my opinion of Anthony I thought he was a cocky kid he seems such a well levelled head take him euros over rashford all day long

    4. we are way too lucky to have him at tyneside, both on and off the pitch a great addition to the squad and we need to keep him for as long as we can.

    5. For me he should be playing on the left for England 100%… better going forward and defensively than anyone else we have in the squad… rice, Foden and Jude in midfield and saka on the right…

    6. Impressive character and player , hope he progresses to become a top international. Leadership and speaking up, will come with the experience, when ready, I'm sure people will listen ?

    7. This interview is superb, the insight of this lad is shocking. Totally the opposite of how probably everyone perceives him, if he continues like this, his career will be superb. Loved it.

    8. The best overlap format the one on one interview, Gary is good at it and seems genuinely interested in the guests. Great interview here with Anthony, seems a mature and smart lad.

    9. As a Newcastle fab we've hit gold with this lad. I loved St. Maximan but compare his erratic style, consistent pratting about on social media & numerous other distractions to Gordons studious focus & seemingly single-minded determination……on attacking Left wing, it's a real positive upgrade I'd say

    10. That interview has totally changed my perception of Anthony Gordon, I always thought he seemed a bit too arrogant watching him on the pitch, but when you listen to how articulate he is and the depths he goes to to make sure he’s totally ready for matches, you can’t be nothing else but impressed with his ethic and his commitment, great interview and nice to see a well spoken and such a well rounded young professional, he obviously has a great family/support team around him,👍👍🤦‍♂️

    11. Loved this. I'm a Liverpool ( not from the city) and at Everton he seemed very immature 49:22 and became almost a hate figure for me. Appreciated him as a footballer though as had him in my fantasy team. Obviously the move has changed him.personally, either that or the pressure of playing fornhis home club brought the worse out of him. Changed my nind on him on a personal, ar least of him outwardly on here, level

    12. I'm rarely impressed or blown away by a football player, but this lad is heading right to the top and a credit to his family! Would love to see him at Old Trafford someday if he carries on progressing.
