Thursday 16th November 2023:
Join me on this video as I toured Hereford Cathedral today – some great exterior footage and really fabulous views inside. How did they ever build such fabulous structures as these cathedrals? The present cathedral dates back to 1079!

Inside the cathedral is the ‘Mappa Mundi and Chained Library’ exhibition. The map dates from 1300 and is safely displayed behind glass in a darkened room, but I managed to capture it on the video. No flash photography is allowed.

Situated in Hereford city centre, the cathedral is easily accessible, is free to enter (other than the Mappa Mundi exhibition) and there’s a shop with a nice cafe too.

    Hope you’ll enjoy the tour!

    Cheers,

    Jeff

    1. Sorry Jeff I was on leave last week and also wasn’t very well for some the week so missed your videos.
Watched both now and very impressed with all the water coming of the dams. Must visit next year.
Cathedral was also very interesting haven’t been for years it would be nice to go back. On did you get Elgars autograph.

    2. Got to admit, it’s been too many years since I was last there. Of the masonry between Gloucester and Hereford. I think Gloucester has the edge, especially Gloucester’s vaulted cloisters. Truly memorable!

    3. Hi Jeff, a nice day out again and another interesting video. Built, burnt down and built again…..that's my very compressed wiki about the Cathedral. The Cathedral has amazing architecture and stonework and the interior is, as you said, very impressive. These are building skills sadly long gone in my opinion. I visited York Minster Cathedral in July 2022 during a family and friends day out in York. It was the first Cathedral I'd ever been to and you just cant fail to be impressed by these monumental structures. Really interesting reading about Hereford Cathedral on the real Wikipedia and not my compressed version. Anyway, I'm looking forward to your trip to Aintree video and seeing the progress made on Gladys . Take care Jeff 👍
