    1. my mum was born not far from coventry, she told us how her and her sister hide under the staires when coventry was being bombed and could hear the explosions

    2. Hi Mark- that was enjoyable but it wasn't the only city heavily bombed- Liverpool was pulverised being an Atlantic port, and the Battle of the Atlantic controlled from here, the bombing was horrendous- my mother lost two homes in the blitz- anyway, a good one again from Cara ,Jeremy and Carly- take care mate, love to the Mogs x 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

    3. Mark. Yes Coventry is good. The new Cathedral is impressive, & I usually don't like new churches, but the light is there is fantastic. Off course the ruins of the old Cathedral are so thought provoking, making one consider the massive impact of the Blitz which took out the Medieval centre of the City, meaning a whole new centre had to be built. Of course many people suffered that night, both the loss of their City, but even more the loss of, & injury to
hundreds of their families & friends. There is a neat reconstruction of an original Roman fort at the Lunt in Coventry, including a horse training ring.

    4. That new cathedral is quite breathtaking from inside and out. Thanks for this Mark. Oh, and I too am a plaque reader, but oh my, you're never going to get round London reading all of the ones there! 🤗

    5. I'm from London and have never been to Coventry before but we're about to set off there to see The Beatles tribute group, The Bootleg Beatles tonight. I'm so looking forward to spending the next few days there. I'm told it's a beautiful and amazing city.

    6. I know many people lost their lives in Coventry and they are far more important than any cathedral but I think its a bit sad it wasn't rebuilt and restored to its former glory after the war. The new cathedral is impressive though.

    7. Hello Mark. Another great video. Guiness is brewed in both London & Dublin. This Stout is available everywhere I’ve been. Like you I’m not a lover of stout. If you ever get to Dublin and visit the Guiness Storehouse and here and see the history of the brand. On the top floor there is a bar there with incredible views. But, apart from the view your entry ticket entitles you to a glass of freshly drawn Guiness. There the drink is very tasty, like no other.

    8. Coventry was blitzed during WWII. Apart from building transport vehicles during the war their engineering ability was used for not only military vehicles, but they managed to manufacture aircraft engines and even airplanes. This made it a great target for the Luftwaffe. There were very poignant pictures at the time of the King & Queen visiting the ruins.

    9. Mark! Cant bloomin email so telling u dramatic news from London. Number 1 daughter on her way to a meeting and was met by loose Household Cavalry horses galloping down road take a look at the news. As a horsewoman it was shocking.

    10. Ah Coventry, ive been sent there over the years, in the 80s it was becoming like a ghost town, all the clubs have been closed down.
Good music and cars from there , not been to see it however it did lend its name to the German language in ww2 meaning to be obliterated or something similar.

    11. Coventry is interesting but you wouldn't want to be sent there 😂. When you say of someone that he's been sent to Coventry everyone knows that person has been ostracized by every one and no one is talking to them probably because of something they have done. This idiom originated possibly because in 1640 during the English Civil War Royalist prisoners were sent from Birmingham to imprisonment in Parliamentary Coventry where they were not welcomed and not treated well. I think that's correct from my memory 😵‍💫 but I'm happy to be corrected.

    12. The 1400's pub is not the oldest in England as there are many 500 years or so older than that. Near me is The Bingley Arms at Bardsey, West Yorkshire at over a 1000 years old and still open.

    13. Churchill had a horrific dilemma in that, having broken the German codes, they knew that Coventry was going to be bombed but if they made preparations the Germans would know that the codes had been broken which could be worse. Oddly, one of my father's close friends after the war had been a Luftwaffe bomber pilot who was on that raid; they stayed in touch for the rest of their lives.

The new cathedral is stunning and the 'west' wall was made of glass so when you stand at one high altar, you can see directly to the other which closely links the two cathedrals. My mother said that she was confirmed in the old cathedral but I'm a bit confused about that as it's a different diocese from where she lived (Dudley) and she was definitely supposed to be confirmed by the Bishop of Worcester as he was ill on the day and his house guest, the Bishop of Hong Kong, stepped in! Maybe the dioceses combined for the ceremony? 🤨

    14. Hi Mark, the last new vehicles I picked up in Coventry were Massey-Fergusson tractors, 30 odd years ago. Btw, Coventry is the birthplace of Jack Reacher author Lee Child, (real name Jim Grant)

    15. We visited the new Coventry cathedral in the '60's it took years to build because Britain was broke after the war. I like the statue of St ? Michael the Arch angel & the devil on the outside. Not so keen on the tapestry on the inside. Christ looks as though he's got his feet in a bird's nest !

    16. Two suggestions for interviews: Kalyn from Girl Gone London or Alannah from Adventures & Naps – two young women from your side of the pond living for several years now in England.
