By the early 1870s, the new capitalist order had established its dominance over the world. In the United States and in many parts of Western Europe, the capitalist order was developing rapidly. Even the Russian tsar had to end serfdom in 1861, even though he had given half the land to the old feudal class and left the peasantry at their mercy.
However, the events in Paris soon showed that the new world created by capitalism was not doomed to the capitalist order alone. It was also possible to build a new world through other options.
