We’ve been transforming a disused railway line in Warwickshire into the county’s longest greenway.

The off-road, 4.2km track is making it easier for everyone to walk and cycle in Warwickshire.

The Lias Line will eventually be designated as Route 41 of the National Cycle Network, taking 4.0km of the existing network off-road.

The Improvements have been delivered through Paths For Everyone, our England-wide programme to enhance the National Cycle Network for everyone.

This has been made possible thanks to funding from the Department for Transport and other key partners such as the British Horse Society, Warwickshire County Council, Warwick District Council and Rugby District Council.

  1. As someone who's been walking/cycling this path for years, it's been great to see it open up and see so many people using it. I don't miss having to climb around the pits of stagnant water at the Fosse Way end of the path, or getting cut up by thorns, nettles etc trying to navigate the branch line to Long Itch.

I could really use a timeline for the new bridges over Oxford Road/Fosse Way and the remaining path into Birdingbury.

  2. That's fantastic, well done.

As a non-native I also have to say: Calling it an "active travel" route is so purposeful and positive,. brilliant terminology. The flexibility of the english language is wonderful.

  3. The new Lias line is a fantastic piece of infrastructure and since the footage was taken back in 2022 it looks even better, now that greenery has regrown around it. Even without being properly connected to anything it is very well used by locals, I've often seen lots of people using it, even a year after it initially opened. To everyone who worked on this project THANK YOU, I can't wait to see the next parts of this great project over the coming years.
