31st October 2023:
I took a train from Chepstow to Gloucester, where I visited the National Waterways Museum and also the fabulous Gloucester Cathedral. I had a short walk along the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal too – which was the widest canal I’ve ever seen.

The towpath runs for about 17 miles from the docks in Gloucester to the canal’s end at Sharpness, where it meets the River Severn. Too far for me to walk! So I’m planning on returning one day with my Brompton bike, to hopefully ride the entire length.

    Hope you enjoy the video!

    1. Interesting video Jeff, the canal seems reasonably maintained and the flats with balconies around it interesting. Would be good to do the 17 miles each way to the Severn on the Brompton 👍

    2. Hi Jeff, Again another interesting vlog, and very informative.
I use to enjoy visiting Abergavenny in 2011-2013 when I stayed in Pontypool.

I didn't know that this history museum existed so thanks for the info. 😊

Keep them coming Jeff, best regards. John. 😊

    3. Can’t believe you visited Gloucestershire cathedral, we visited just three days before you. Amazing piece of architecture.
Glad you visited Gloucester docks we must also go to museum then perhaps we could go together sometime. Looking forward to your Brompton cycle ride along the Sharpness Chanel.

    4. At 2m 5s you can see the Mariners’ Church and to its left a newish looking block. Where you may find the humorously named, ‘Barge Inn’. One presumes for the sake of etiquette & politeness, you have to boisterously crash through the doors when entering.

    5. Hi Jeff, WOW! the Cathedral is just amazing, architectural brilliance. The museum looked ok, I liked the old Fielding engine in particular with its incredibly true running flywheel. Are all the floors utilised in the museum or was everything on one level? That canal was wide, if you do take the Brompton down and cycle the 17 miles it will certainly make an interesting vlog. Plenty of boats on the water, always good to see a collection of narrowboats, but not being a fan of the larger boats I tend to give them a wide berth…..my poor attempt at a joke there 😀 That Dutch Barge was impressive. The highlight for me was the interior views in the Cathedral, absolutely amazing. I've watched Python's Holy Grail many times being a Python fan. Many funny lines in that scene from the French including them f@rting in a general direction. Great video again Jeff, always interesting and informative. Look forward to next. Take care mate 👍
