THE KEEPERS CORNER! – Ever seen a goal go in and thought, “Can the goalie do better there?”

    Well we’ve got the answer!

Every week we’ll pick three goals form the weekends Premier League action which we feel, could and should have been prevented. We’ll explain exactly the reasons why, in the most detailed and technical breakdown you won’t find anywhere else!

The three goals we selected this week are…

1 – Andre Onana – Could he have gotten down quicker for Dominic Solanke’s opener at the Vitality Stadium
2 – Vicario – Should the Italian have held a higher position in that sweeper keeper role for Alexander Isak’s 3rd goal against Newcastle
3 – Bart Verbruggen – At half-hearted attempt to clear a back pass resulted in the ball ending up in the back of the net. What could the Dutchman have done differently?

    1. When players retire they forget what it was to be a player. They expect too much from current players and brutally criticize current players. I love the level headedness of Ben Foster and the empathy shown by Ben and Dave Watson. Amazing content.

    2. Love this! As a goalkeeper in my school days, this is fantastic stuff! Personally, I'd change the name to the Goalie Guidebook or playbook since I imagine a lot of young keepers and even professional keepers would get great insight into how to fix their own game from watching this

    3. As a field player back in the day, it is so nice to see how goalies analyse their own, with the onana goal my first thoughts are that maguire should have closed the space to prevent the shot.
But now hearing you two talk about the intention of him of closing that left hand side is such a different perspective.

Would be amazing to actually see slow by slow movement to pin point every step of the way, although that might not be possible. Liked the comparison with ederson would be a great touch to compare why one is a "mistake" and why in the same scenario it is a save.

Long story short amazing looking forward to seeing more!

    4. Saveable would be a solid title
I think it would be cooler if you both bring a list of the ones you think had to be saved and then organically debate on them, because if you agree on everything it might be a bit less entertaining/ informative 🙂

    5. Question for Ben and all the keepers in here.
With the way players can go over a wall with a free kick , should keepers adjust the position more central rather than letting the wall cover one side and the keeper the other.
I played Keeper for many years to a very good standard and very rarely got beat by free kicks when taking up a more central position. Yes we try to peek through the wall to see the ball etc, but we never really catch the flight of it until its over the wall. Watch most free kicks and the the keeper doesn't shift his feet until the balls over the wall and they get the flight, they then get fingertips to it or just miss it, from a more central position they would have reached it and or still have sight and time to react on the non wall side…..
      Thoughts???

    6. This is fantastic. Top notch analysis from both. I didn't think Onana was particularly at fault for Solanke's goal, but when you break it down like that, you can clearly see that he could have done more to save it. Keep these coming!

    7. Great show – top-class analysis. Loved it. It would have been good to have actual video rather than just still photos. Also for every mistake where you talk about what the keeper should have done how about showing footage where another keeper has done it right. eg on the last mistake by Bart, you mention Edisson's save/block against Rashford. It would be great to see that in order to compare the good and the bad. Looking forward to the next episode.

    8. Great idea for a new show, but please and I feel like we all gonna agree on this, we don't need background music in my opinion. I don't want to listen to it in the background if I listen to something that interesting. I don't think like it's needed when you have so much to say. It was very loud for first three minutes as well, after that it was much better

    9. Onana surly should be 2 steps forward aswell maybe 1 but that would make the target smaller and easier to save.

Second goal is simple if your line is half way totally agree he has yo be 20/30 yards behind them

3rd is an old school take the ball and the man hard you go in less he will want it

      Great chat lads

    10. De Gea would’ve saved with his right leg on that Solanke 1st goal. That was the good thing with De Gea, great shot stopper with dive or legs

    11. Goalkeeper here. The very first analysis that is clear and concise when it comes to the actual decision making keepers make every single play. What I would love is for you to clip all the times announcers say "The keeper should have done better there" and show them why they are wrong nearly every single time they say that.

    12. Great segment, I think it would be good to see 3 great saves as well, that way we can see what they did to achieve it and compare it to where a goalie has made a slight error (and that’s all we are talking at premier league level, a slight mistake can be extremely costly) On a side note Ben you must be pleased for your old club achieving Back to Back promotions. I know you hung up your boots after a few games this season, but you still made that penalty save against Wimbledon to win Wrexham the point, so you still played a little part in it👍🇬🇧
