I found myself awakening in a farm field at dawn, with the morning chill leaving my bug net damp.
The day began with an unexpected sight: farmers riding to work on busy roads.
My journey continued, leading me to the breathtaking ruins atop the hills, a moment of awe before a practical stop at Lidl for breakfast provisions.
The town of Salezo passed by as I pedaled on, pausing at 400 meters to enjoy view of the Alps.
Dronero greeted me next, a beautiful city on a hill, followed by my arrival in Cuneo.
Here, I faced a decision; the recommended train to Ventimiglia was not an option.
Concerns about crossing the mountains on my Brompton loomed, given the lack of an official route.
Opting for caution, I booked a hotel to plan my mountain crossing.
A minor challenge at the hotel happened, with the receptionist initially refusing at the idea of my Brompton in the room.
A compromise was reached: the bike would stay in its dimpa bag, and the room would remain pristine.
With that settled, I prepared for a night’s rest, gathering strength for the next day’s mountain climb.
