The race organisation was very lucky the group was already so reduced.
Only thanks to Alpecin having the peloton whittled down to about 35 riders at that point!
My Educated guess is, within 150 meters after the chicane They were going the same speed They would have been going without the chicane. The chicane adds 2 more corners That could cause crashes So i'm not sure how it makes the race safer.
