Hello and welcome to this weeks Vlog.
Nice and surrounding area is one of my favourite places to go ride a bike, however I am always struck by how few amateur cyclists go there compared to places like Majorca and Tenerife. I decided to do a vlog to show you what its like, how to get there and what you can expect. There’s a reason a large proportion of the pro peloton base themselves in this region (and its not just tax!). The climate, roads and scenery are superb, and there are great transport links too. Hope you like the vlog and if you have any questions, we will try to answer them below. Stay tuned till the end for another (little) competition.

Red cheek magic cream
Arse ache no more" TM.
I just watched this again, Ollie, and truly, you present Nice like a local and that is remarkable for someone who has been there just six times or so. And I'm wondering, for a rider(s) who would just need a place for sleep and shower, are there any hostels or similarly priced accommodations? Or what sort of lodging costs did you encounter through Airbnb?
(Chamois) cream yourself.
So informative and so helpful. Thanks Ollie.
More of these kind of vlogs in the future.
I would call my chamois cream; 'Maggots Crevice Ointment'. – as 'Maggot' was my nickname when i raced, basically because i got myself onto the result sheet where i really had no business being! thanks Ollie, mark
Crack Wax – crude but to the point
I will call it "crememoise"
Another excellent vlog. Would be great to somehow get your routes out of Nice.
Mallorca long transfer from the airport…. 5 minute drive to palma/arenal
Ollie, I'm thinking to head there (partly because of this vid, thanks) with my partner in May. She's been cycling a couple of year but not done anything like mountains. Are there some climbs inland from Nice that are pretty steady 4-7% range that we could do without biting off too much that would be daunting? Or are they all pretty steep once you get inland?
Jerk shammy
I was in Nice last June. Great place to ride
Other details – you can get there by train via Eurostar and TGV (change at Lille and Marseille or Avignon). You could also stay in Menton rather than Nice – I'll be in Rocquebrune-Cap-Martin as usual in the summer 🙂
The climbs are as good as they look in this video – the views are even better but difficult to capture how truly stunning they are!
When is a good time to cycle in Nice? Which months?
This makes me regret not being into cycling the last two times I visited Nice. I could have had a day or two cycling!
3:25 did you say Castelli Rock? If so, that's the most genius pun ever
I've lived near Nice for quite a few years. I am from Scotland originally. Really the best point is that is has a variety of rides from the high summer peaks to accessible 900m climbs in the winter. We often do the Col de La Madone as a Christmas day mission, or a tour of the Esterel area. Riding near the coast in August though is a bit nuts sometimes. Too hot and busy so if you must do it, start super early.
Chez Wayne's?
the dented cars are France in general, not just Nice. French drivers are just nutters, period.
Where is the cafe you filmed from at 15:10? Do you remember the location?
TWIN!
Another amazing lesser known climb is to the top of Mont Vial 1549m. It's one of the 3 highest mountains close to the coast and the only one that actually has a road access for its weather station that's on top.

Great vid love the cake reference 🙂
Very cool vlog. Nice to take your brother along and create some great memories.
Is this Cafe Cicliste, still have rental road bikes? Cant find ''rental'' option on the web page.
Thats a really cool winter motivation, going to nice in march or april🚲🌄
While climbing sharp hill, he is taking video.. vaaov! 🙂 impressing.
i would kill to live in nice
I took a vélo Bleu from vieux Nice into the damn Alpes !! Lol. I had travelled 70km and the cops sent me back to the city
Fabulous vlog thanks Ollie. Really helpful insights and advice.
A new chamois cream? Hell for Leather
My favourite Ollie Bridgewood video of all time GCN included.
