A rat rod diesel smokestack spectacle, he calls it “The Duke” – a rolling manifestation of Duke’s larger-than-life personality. Cruising through Tucson on dually mud terrains with a Dana 70 rear end, the bagged 1930 Ford Model A rat rod, with its commanding 1993 first gen Cummins 12-valve diesel, dual whistling compound turbos, boisterous train horn and imposing stacked front exhaust, gets attention where ever it goes. Nicole meets up with Dustin Duke to discover the nuances of the 47RH transmission with its Kilduff shifter first-hand, and breaks the tires loose on a desert road.

    MORE ABOUT DUKE:
Known simply as Duke, Dustin Duke grew up in North Pole, Alaska and now resides with his wife in Tucson, Arizona. Referring to himself as a redneck with a motor addiction, his positive attitude towards hard work is infectious.

    1. This is the type of thing that reminds people that some folks never truly grow up. The toys just get bigger, and more amazing than ever.

Never change Duke, this is the type of mechanical and physical art I can truly get behind.

    2. I have a personal motto, "The only person who is going to do for myself is myself."

I have a particular way of working my visions that no one can dream of.
I am always eager to learn from others, but I stick to my way of doing things if my way makes more sense
      TO ME.

    3. I hope everyone that commented doesn't think this is the first diesel powered Rat Rod. The most famous diesel powered one of these was built by Steve Darnell from Welderup.

    4. Nicole is such a gearhead geek! I love it!!! Duke is an embodiment of the American spirit; Work hard and get it done! You inspired so much with what you said, I am in total admiration. Thank you Nicole for bringing us such joy with your finds!

    6. I just watched the video…I purchased a 1928 Oldsmobile F28 2dr sedan 14 years ago with the same intentions you had ..Friends and I installed a '74 Chevy truck 350/350 turbo..Dana 44 rearend from a '61 Studebaker truck..Dropped 4" Bell front axle..and incorporating surgical instruments throughout… Casket handles for rear "skid bars"..Tall WWW on rear,.."pie crusts" on front '56 Chevy wheels with 3" " port a walls" mounted on inner side…. But life happens, other projects..Im 64 and hoping to get my '28 Olds on the road soon .YOU..revitalized my vision for getting it done..

    7. I saw this at the duct tape drags. The short I filmed of the engine only is my highest viewed short at 13,000 views. I was the guy that had the Prius in the car show the day before as a lark. I was filming the build on the engine on this, I meant to pan back, but I started talking to somebody, and I never did finish what I was planning to film.

    8. there is a chinese proverb which goes roughly, "people should not say something is impossible to do, to the person who is already doing it" 🙂

    9. I designed a car like this for Vegas Rat Rods. After going over the idea he told me he wasn't interested in doing it for the show because he thought it would wind up being too expensive and he just wasn't into it really. Later he built it and called it 'Train Car' or something like that. Blatantly just stole my idea. I have all the emails of us going back and forth about it.

    10. dude, your horn is similar to a low level fuel warning horn to an Air Force turbine generator start cart [-60]. We pulled one out and hooked it up to the air supply and would operate it for 9am break 11 am lunch and 2pm break. After 3 days we decided it wasn't a good idea anymore ha ha. Imagine a horn so loud that you can hear it over the turbine. Experiments with shit you can find lying around in a shop = Fun =]

    11. I see a little bit of Welder Up Garage here . Which is not a bad thing . Steve is a very talented builder … You guys had way tooo much fun driving that rig ….
