    1. When I ran over there in the great north run last year, I remember thinking how shabby it look and let the area down, great to see they are sorting it 👌 🌉

    2. Coming home on leave in the 70s, seeing the Tyne Bridge from the train window crossing the High Level always made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!

    3. Something so iconic having only been there since 1928!

The architecture of Tyneside is amazing. Honestly when you come in from Carlisle on the train it really has a wow factor.

Up there with the best of bridges

    4. Great video, Eddy! Giving the Tyne Bridge a good seeing to was never going to be a job that lasted a few months so I feel for those that are going to be caught up in the upheaval for the next few years. Will it get more folks onto the Metro, I wonder? And I echo the other comments on here about how the bridge has been allowed to get into this condition in the first place. I bet they aren't as negligent in Sydney!

    5. The state of the bridge says a lot about what central government thinks about everywhere outside of London and especially the north east

    6. I was just about to ask about the GNR 😂 running it for the first time this year and glad we will still get to pass over the iconic bridge ! Informative as ever Eddie keep up the good work. 👍

    7. Glad it’s finally getting sorted. Current state of it is embarrassing, it deserves so much better. Birds going out on loan to the swing bridge are they? 😂

    8. Dennis, Oz and the rest of the lads, should dismatle it, and relocate it over St.James Park. Fit it out with seats and we've solved our increased capacity problem.

    9. 10. The iconic bridge, that’s when you knew you were back home! Bit like yourself Eddy, travelling round the world, dropping the lads off on the way – travelling vouchers were a god send back in the day! The Quayside as is, was derelict – funny how times change!
Having seen the bridge at Sydney, larger version of ours – nothing takes away the value of the Tyne Bridge, even today!! Glad it’ll be sorted, eventually!!

    11. A great video Eddie. It’s gonna have a big impact. I live in Durham and have school runs and kids football training etc. it adds masses of time on the journey. But, I love the city and the bridge is disgraceful. I tell u this, I’ll be happier sat on the busy Bridge than I was on the team valley. It’s good long term. Bringing the pride back.

    12. Excellent video Eddie, do you not think during the Four year shutdown the Council should have thought about completing the access stairs through the towers?

    13. Shouldn't have been allowed to get that bad. , greedy. Tories,

Should be looked after wor bridge,

Always been the same tho London and everywhere else comes first before Newcastle/Gateshead, absolutely disgraceful. ,

Great video eddie you stay safe 👍

    14. Disgusting that it got to this state. Meanwhile, Sydney Bridge still looks as beautiful as the day it was built, with not a dot of rust!

    15. Thanks, very informative. I'm due to run in the GNR this year and was wondering what would happen at the bridge – pleased to know it's been sorted!

    16. I walk by the Tyne bridge regularly and it is in desperate need of a decent paint job. It had one a few years ago but it never lasts. I think it’s the pollution from the cars. If only there was a paint that would last a century. The Tyne Bridge is if not the icon of the North East and to see it looking shoddy is embarrassing.

    17. Rode under it on Saturday and it made me smile, what a gorgeous old lady she is, glad the TLC is on its way, the swing bridge needs sorting too!

    18. I've hit friends in the scaffold game and they have been told 3 possibly 4 years before completion, apparently it's in a worse structural repair than they thought, even driving over it, it's looked full of heavy rust at road level for a few years now, disgusting they've allowed it to go

    19. I hope, as well as the four-year refurbishment plan, something is being put in place to ensure continuous maintenance thereafter.
