Part 7 of our 2022 LEJOG ride in which we followed the SUSTRANS route but also included Cape Wrath, Orkney and Shetland.

If you are doing LEJOG it is worth thinking about carrying on to see Orkney and Shetland while you are so far north anyway. If you are doing a self-supported tour it is worth remembering that there are overnight ferries from Kirkwall and Lerwick which you can use as a way to connect with the morning trains at Aberdeen and that way you can scrape some sleep and avoid riding the A99 to Wick or back-tracking to Thurso. But you need to book these ferries in advance – we had to replan our return journey because the ferry we wanted was already full 6 weeks in advance and they said they could not just squeeze an extra bike or two on board – so book the ferry first and then the train!

Please see my other videos for parts 1-6 which cover the SUSTRANS LEJOG with a diversion to Cape Wrath and also a presentation about the LEJOG+ ride and our experiences narrated by my brother who is the star of all these videos.

This is the final video in the series. If you’ve watched them all then thank you for your patience. If you’re thinking of doing the ride yourself then I trust you will succeed; the hardest part is setting off! If you’ve already done it, then I hope this series has reminded you of good times!

    1. Fantastic, well done to you both. I really enjoyed your vlogs of this trip. Thanks for sharing them, I think you have sold me on the SUSTRANS route. All the best.
