Cycling on the beautiful island of Aspö in the archipelago of Blekinge near Karlskrona. A popular island to visit in the summer much thanks to its scenic beauty and slow pace. Aspö is only a twenty minute boat ride from Karlskrona.

In this cycling vlog we meet my friend from College, Josh Odor from Iowa, who visited me in July/August 2022. It’s been 19 years since we last met, and that was when we both graduated from California State University in Fullerton.

Now, we went for a scenic bike ride in Blekinge. We visited Aspö, Karlskrona and Kristianopel. Beautiful bikeride in the archipelago of Blekinge.

Josh tried Kroppkakor for the first time. Visit this link for a recipe. (https://ingmar.app/blog/recipe-swedish-kroppkakor/)

It’s a beautiful day here. It’s a clear blue sky. Perfect temperature. 23 degrees Celsius. What’s that in Fahrenheit? Nice! Nice degrees Fahrenheit. Hello friends!

I just came here to the island of Aspö off the coast of Sweden with my friend Josh who came all the way from America. I went to college with him. Welcome to Sweden. – Hey, thanks buddy! – You’re welcome!

We’re having a beautiful day here. We want to explore this island. It has a lot of old Swedish naval history. And some museums. We’ll also try to find some real traditional Swedish food and see how that goes. I hope we do find some.

And after that we will go to Karlskrona, the city just on the mainland from here. It’s a city that is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. And then we’ll see what happens after that. We’ll keep you posted. So, enjoy the ride! Perfect ride! Slow. Scenic. The way it should be.

What’s great is they have all these signs where they’re waving hello, just welcoming you, come on in. Check it out with me, won’t you. Maybe not… So, we’re sitting here and we just ordered a traditional Swedish dish. And it’s called Kroppkakor.

A literal translation would be “Body Cookies”, but a more correct translation is “Potato Dumplings”. And this is the first time for Josh. So, show me, what do I do here? There’s pork on the inside. Smells so good. And this is potato, boiled. Mashed potato boiled. This is lingonberry. And cream.

This is butter. So, you should take some butter and put on it. I’ve never used a butter knife apparently. Lingonberry. I’ll just take a big chunk. I don’t know what to do with the cream. I don’t usually use cream, so I’ll skip that.

That’s one way to do it. And, also of course, a Swedish lager. Not sponsored. Or is it…? Good? Oh yeah, yeah! You can tell he’s an actor. No, I’m from Iowa and I just like pork. That is… That is the perfect texture because it’s just got enough chewiness to it.

Like a good dumpling, a good pirogi almost. Glad you liked it. – A little bit of dill on there. It’s fantastic. Awesome. Cool.

    1. Hej Mattias,
      another really nice video.
Believe it or not but we stayed last September a few days in Karlskrona and did exakt the same tour by bicycle. 😁👍
      Greetings
