Royal family last Friday the Princess of Wales said she’s in the early stages of treatment after a cancer diagnosis in a video statement Katherine said it was a huge shock after an incredibly tough couple of months but she sent a positive message saying I am well and getting stronger

Every day um Val I’ll come to you first after all of the weeks of of speculation and and coverage about the Princess of Wales where is she what’s going on what was your reaction when you saw this statement well in a sense it was kind of

A relief in the sense because it it gave you an answer to what had been going on one felt incred be sorry for Catherine and you know one realized that she actually had been seriously ill and hopefully she’s getting better but uh all that ridiculous speculation and the

And the rumors and the stuff on the internet it people must have been chastened I think some of the things they’ve been say particularly in the States you know sort of uh comedians commentators speculating about her being missing and she wasn’t missing that’s the whole point she was continuing to do

What Kensington Alice said she was going to do which was uh she’d had an operation and she was recovering and she was going to be off for several weeks and nothing had changed but somehow because the hysteria of the internet uh all these theories started flying around

When when nothing had changed so um immense sympathy sympathy for her but also she’s changed the game a bit making a video like that was extraordinary never seen anything like that never seen member of the royal family speak like that normally they would have just released a statement so for her someone

Who doesn’t particularly like speaking in public for her to make a statement like that incredibly Brave and I wonder if it you know to what extent it’ll be gamechanging will it sort of will it change the way the royal family interacts with us in the future we’ll have to see but it’s

Certainly a possibility it was extraordinary a fair wasn’t it and and profoundly moving actually to see uh Catherine there sat on that bench at Windsor telling the world just how tough it has been over the past couple of months and I reminded that nobody knows what’s going on in someone else’s life

Behind Closed Doors absolutely and it was humanizing as well it really humanized what we’ve been you know discussing at length over the past few weeks that actually at the center of all this hyperbole is a a person is a human is a woman is a mother who has been

Going through an incredibly difficult time it’s very sobering as well but it was very much an element of the Princess of Wales telling us in her own words in very simple terms and being the grownup in the room this is what’s happening this is how I am this is how I’m going

To handle it going forward and also kind of saying back off now and everybody C down and I think that was very very necessary I think it was a really really great and a Really Brave decision for her to to to do a video like that like

Said you know usually it would just be a statement with on headed notep paper but to actually see her really humanized it really sobered everybody up I think and I think that was a genius move and and to see her there and this was a statement she wrote herself wasn’t it

Victoria and the fact that she was there in front of camera should have put pay to all of those conspiracy theorists shouldn’t it but then you realize you can’t silence well yes I mean it is ridicul ridiculous that we are still seeing some of sort of residues of this

Conspiracy idea still going on online and it does just show you that there is absolutely no point in trying to answer or Pander to any kind of Hysteria that appears on social media because it will never be satisfied you’ll end up in a vicious cycle and I do think that was

One of the things that actually stood out about the statement the fact that they there was this mounting hysteria particularly after the Mother’s Day image and they rightly put out a message about editing that and apologize for the confusion but they didn’t they weren’t sort of pushed into suddenly releasing

More material at that time and the hysteria was mounting but they really stupped their guns and they didn’t have a kneejerk reaction and they did what they wanted to do which was release more information at a time that was right for them and a time that was right for their

Children and of course that’s what’s really come through here is that as we know has been widely reported the timing of this statement was all about making making sure that by the time the news hit the world they were away safely with George Charlotte and Louie in a bubble

So that the reaction to that news was not obvious to their children and and that’s right isn’t it Val that this wasn’t and Kensington Palace Keen to point out this wasn’t an ejer reaction to the kind of wild west of social media as as it’s been described and all of

Those various theories this was something that the princess of Wells had decided on a couple of weeks earlier yeah that she wanted to do this message and as Victoria said the timing was all about the family and protecting the children and making sure that they knew the news in the most appropriate way

Given their ages yes I mean I think obviously the children are param Mount and there was you know a clear strategy that when when the news Dro they should be going away so that the children don’t have to deal with immediate aftermath but you do have to ask yourself whether

They had the right strategy because there was so much Madness around and it was it was very damaging for a while uh and I don’t think the uh royal family well Kensington Palace had really anticipated how bad it would get but of course it was all fueled uh when William

Suddenly pulled out of that um memorial service for his Godfather King Constantine of Greece um now it’s not clear exactly when he pulled out we we’re told now that it was to do with uh Kate’s cancer diagnosis uh but I’ve also heard another narrative that he told the

Organizers of that service that uh two weeks earlier that he wasn’t going so it’s a little unclear but um suddenly went things went mad after that and um obviously I think the overall strategy at Kensington Palace was very much driven by William M Kate I think it was

Their desires to keep things under wrap there desires to keep private Med medical information private but um I just wondered whether in the current climate and in the world we live in where social media uh is so rampant whether there might be an argument for greater transparency and greater

Openness earlier on one of the things we we’re told a fear is that Katherine was encouraged by the very positive reaction to the king sharing his diagnosis and that gave her some um desire to do the same herself in her own time and it must have been super encouraging for her to

See um how much people gave him such an outpouring of love for his um diagnosis with the enlarged prostate as well and it must have been comforting for for her to see that you know if I do share what’s going on people are going to be

On my team people are going to be on my side and that will Spar her on and also using her platform uh For A Cause such as cancer is incredible you know it’s it’s it’s something that’s invaluable if someone thinks about their health or a legal or something a lump or something

That they might have had that they’re not sure about and goes to get it checked and get some treatment that’s only got to be a positive thing but I think also there is the fact that you have to consider that there wasn’t as much transparency and that was needed

From the very beginning now I’m not saying that we have to know every single detail about everything that’s going on in the Royal Family’s lives that’s not our right but I do think that more should have been done perhaps by you know the pr and comm’s team at

Kensington Palace rather than the prince and princess of whales themselves to quell the rumor mill because that must have been incredibly stressful and distressing as well it’s a tough one though isn’t it Victoria because if uh The Prince and Princess of Wales had made a decision we do not want to talk

About this until we’ve done it in the right way for the children we haven’t quite worked out how we feel about this we haven’t quite worked out how we’re going to break this news to our children we just want to you know close the shutters and be in our own family bubble

Until we’ve processed this and then we’ll tell you in our own time that’s pretty tough even if you’re a you know a PR adviser paid to do this stuff you know as Val said I do think this was driven by them and this is a personal matter and you have this quite tricky

Situation where you have a family and you have very personal matters but then you have a business and you have a professional side and you have advisers and we don’t really know to what extent advisers were given information or autonomy to advise on certain aspects of

This um I do I do feel that it was a really strong example for all of us about how out of control the narrative can get in the social media era it does emphasize the importance of that very clear communication but also I think the onus does have to be on those social

Media companies to look at this now because and it’s something actually that William and Kate have been quite outspoken on particularly William in the past about them being on the back foot because you know social media is publishing when you put something on social media you are publishing and in

Every single other area of publishing books newspapers magazines television you know you have to have standards you have to adhere to standards you have to understand things like Lial law and understand The Importance of Being factual yet we have this whole world of publishing going on in social media

Where people are able to publish without necessarily understanding those things and also anonymously as well and and that that did we saw um filter back into mainstream media once it reached a certain level of noise and that is another question I think for us to sort

Of look at as to how powerful it can be now um a Linda Yaro the CEO of X Twitter put out her own statement of sympathy and support for the princess of Welles but Victoria’s Point actually there are platforms here the publishing platforms that people are being able to use to

Spread this kind of misinformation something Harry and Megan to their credit have talked about a lot and have experienced a lot for years now absolutely and Victoria you’re absolutely right that you know this is publishing um and in every other area you have Lial laws and things like that

And there are some on social media there are some some people that are perpetuating some pretty disgusting um rumors and just literally stuff that’s just made up you know and it’s not just about the prince and princess of Wales it’s about loads of celebrities it’s about Megan having not given birth to

Her children for goodness sake there’s people that are saying these things on social media and so I do think the social media compan companies have to take more responsibility and should be shutting down these accounts that spread dangerous harmful and disgusting rumors but also abuse abuse aimed at The Prince

And Princess of Wales the Duke and Duchess of Sussex that you and I politicians you know everybody they should be public ey they should be doing much more across the board because otherwise people are just getting away with saying absolutely anything they want and they frankly can’t do that I I

Think what was eye openening for me uh over this and was the kind of money that you can make from spreading a conspiracy theory you know if you put a video out on Tik Tok and it gets picked up by celebrities in the United States and they repost it and it’s then viewed

Millions of times you can then sell a subscription you can sell merchandise even off the back of somebody else’s misery I’ve been doing something wrong all this time I mean yeah what kind of a job is that it’s it’s crazy isn’t it um one of the

Positives to come out of this though um as we saw with the King revealing his diagnosis is awareness and cancer Charities at saying how much they had seen their traffic to their websites and searches on symptoms for example uh increase five-fold I think it was on the

NHS website after the Princess of Wales uh made her announcement also reminded us that they were grateful for the Privacy they would now be be granted going forward and I think that was very parate that they put that line in there it was kind of a little

Reminder of we wanted privacy no we’re reminding you that you said that that was okay Victoria you do a lot of work around America as well um now America was where there was a hot bed of of conspiracy theories really and on on late night talk shows and celebrities getting involved

Have we seen much Contrition there has been there’s a there there’s been a high profile apology from the late L show I believe um I think I mean it’s definitely the hysteria definitely calmed down significantly I felt Once You released that statement and I think there was I

Mean yeah we’ve seen celebrities as well um who made jokes about things come forward and apologize um and yeah I mean it it it certainly made everyone take a really big step back and reflect I think on how they had been responding particularly to things on social media

Previously um but as we said at the beginning there’s also still this kind of element of there’s there’s still residues of that still online and it just does show you that pandering to that it it’s just not it’s not it’s not going to be a good idea to ever do that

Because you’re never really going to stop some of it from happen I mean there’s just some sorry I was just going to say there’s some people online that are actually just too far gone you know what I mean they they they’ve decided you say exactly they’ve decided that it

Is what it is and so they’re going to continue you know dissecting the video it’s AI it was actually me in the garden with Kate’s head on my shoulders there’s some people that have just they’re just too far gone some people have definitely apologized I think Blake Lively apologized she said she was

Mortified but what was interesting the presenter of The Late Show Stephen Colbert um you know talked of his I can’t what word he Ed foret he certainly wasn’t apologizing I thought it was extraordinary uh because he’ gone quite far yes when when he talked about you know made allegations about Prince

William uh which no one in this country would would would repeat um and uh couldn’t actually bring himself to apologize and you know he was making jokes about her disappearance when as I said earlier she hadn’t disappeared she was doing ex she exactly where Kensington Palace said she was going to

Be um staying in America Harry and Megan because we understand that they learned the news at the same time as the world did when that statement went out they are believed to have made contact with the prince and princess of Wales privately on Friday night following uh Katherine’s video revealing that she’s

Receiving preventative a chemotherapy um Victoria I think this just highlights that the depth of the Divide really between the Sussex is and the Wales is that they didn’t know in advance yeah I mean Ken Palace isn’t saying anything on that they’re not commenting on that but it has been

Reported that they didn’t know in advance uh my understanding is that they have reached out to the couple privately and obviously we know that they put out that public message I thought it was quite a the tone of the message they put out I thought was appropriate you know

It was very brief it was very heartful it was very simple um I thought that was the the right reaction from them to to put the statement out that they did um but it’s it is you know the divisions have been very very significant and I

Know a lot of people are kind of talking about oh maybe this is an opportunity now to move forward in a more positive direction and that would be really nice to think if that was the case but I think it might be a bit naive to think

That those bridges will just suddenly be mended now I think those divisions have run very deep and I think they’re still very separate the two couples I also think AIA for the prince and princess Welles the focus entirely now is on Catherine getting through this treatment making a full recovery keeping as strong

As she possibly can for herself but also for for the children and those kind of noises that come from elsewhere and any external stresses William’s particularly going to want to avoid that is he for her absolutely you know it’s all about making sure she gets through this making

Sure sure that she can get better uh and get back on her feet for herself and for her children and I think none of them need any of the extra stress at the moment I think it’s great that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reached out um but

Definitely it’s going to be a long time before we can see a real defrosting in relations between them but you know I think I think it’s really good that they did do that um as well as released that statement but yes it’s got to be all about the Princess of Wales at the

Moment moment all about her recovery focusing on her making sure that she can get better but also think in tandem with that is that we have to be very mindful when we’re talking about the prince and princess of Wales that we we also don’t need to you know drag down the Duke and

Duchess of Sussex and things that they continue to do because this kind of narrative of you know for instance I read this week how dare Megan launch a Lifestyle brand while the Princess of Wales has cancer one thing does not have anything to do with the other you know

Megan The Duchess of Sussex has got her life to live the prince the Princess of Wales has got her recovery to make the two things do not do not conflate and they don’t need to and I think you know the colum Ines wasted on that is you

Know unfortunate and that has gone on for years hasn’t it the pitting that the two sides against each other Val I mean there could possibly be an opportunity uh for some kind of contact between them um uh in May Prince Harry due back here for a church service at St Paul’s

Cathedral for the Invictus games do you think that’s likely given the history given what’s happened recently I think it’s probably pretty unlikely you know we know that when Harry came over to see his father after the cancer diagnosis he didn’t have any contact with William one of the

Interesting questions I think is when they did reach out after Kate’s diagnosis uh was made public um was that a whatssapp message I mean because we know that Harry and William do communicate a lot of time when when they when they communicate it’s often by WhatsApp was it a WhatsApp message or

Did someone actually pick up the phone and if someone picked up the phone did on the other end pick answer it um but I don’t think we should uh pin too many hopes uh on uh much contact when Harry comes over for the invictor ceremony but we’ll see um in more positive news

Bucking and Palace has confirmed this week that the king will attend the traditional Easter matens church service in Windsor on Sunday King Charles accompanied by Queen Camila will lead members of the royal family at the traditional service at St George’s chapel and Valentine it’s being called

Easter light because it’s going to be a much smaller Gathering than we would normally see on Easter Sunday but the king will be there and there’ll be a lot of interest in that one of the fascinating details is that you know weather permitting uh he will walk to

The service U which um I mean we haven’t really seen seen him apart from the odd photograph uh in public uh since his his treatment began so all eyes will be on him to see how he looks see how he is I mean the photographs I’ve seen haven’t

Filled me with a great deal of Hope um but you know uh I think you know everyone will wish him well and also this goes back to the fact that I think the king is probably climbing up the wall he he very much sees sees his role as

Interacting with the people and we saw that the day day after his accession when he arrived at Bucking Palace and was shaking hands with people outside the palace uh and we’ve seen that many times since then he he likes to get involved he likes to see people he likes

To you know following on his his mother’s dictor of being seen seen seen to be believed so I think he he would he would love to be out there Peter Phillips revealed that actually in an interview on Australian television uh this week didn’t he uh a fear that the

King is frustrated that his recovery is taking a bit longer than he would like and and he’s begging his aids to let him get out and and and do more and this Sunday the first of that absolutely I mean the king likes to be in amongst it

And also remember he’s been the era parent for so long this was his opportunity to really get out there and do things you know there was talks of him going on on trips to the Commonwealth you know Canada perhaps samor for the Commonwealth heads of government meeting later on in the year

Um those plans obviously now up in the air but he wanted to get out there and spread his wings and do things so his wings are now clipped it must be incredibly frustrating for him to have to take it right the way back and now be

Taking small steps but going to this um Easter service at Windsor on Sunday is a big step forward for him and I think even though he will be frustrated that it’s not more that he’s doing I think he’ll be boyed that at least he can do

That and see how that goes and then hopefully we’ll see him back out in full for us sooner rather than later and as we’re recording this uh Victoria uh Queen camiller is deputizing for him at the traditional mouri service at Worcester Cathedral uh this year but uh

A message recorded by the king played during that service yeah and I think this is reflective of how much he wants to be and is able to remain visible despite the fact that he’s not physically able to do a normal program so similar thing at the Commonwealth day

Service a message was played into that and of course with the Adent of technology and particularly how we all learn to use it so adeptly in covid um we’re really seeing them take advantage of that now and they’re able to keep him visible and to keep him actually very

Present in people’s minds even though he’s had to cut back on so much of of what he would normally do and Camila um deputizing that’s a first so for her to be handing out that mday money as a consort is a first and really reflective

I think of how much she has been doing and how she’s really been out and about and been very visible at this time while he has less so uh two others who’ve been deputizing uh for the king Princess Anne and Sophie The Duchess of Edinburgh they’ve been nicknamed the dynamic duo

As they’ve been taking on some of the burden of Royal duties last week they stepped in for the king uh at a Buckingham Palace reception for veterans of the Korean War um this is uh the dynamic duo as they were nicknamed uh in the media I mean it’s no surprise to any

Of us this pair are quite a force to be reckoned with when they come together oh they definitely are I mean princess an Princess Royal is you know hardest working uh woman in the royal family as we all know regularly used to VI with uh her brother Charles for the top slot in

Terms of number of engagements carried out a year uh she’s people who see her on engagements on things she’s uh gone to visit or opened or whatever uh speak very warmly she’s she’s always always very well briefed she’s very interested she’s also potentially a terrifying figure I mean she could R I’ve

Interviewed her and I I was definitely had to be on my [Laughter] aame but you know the duchess fed and brother Sophie um hugely respected hugely respected and everyone who has any dealings with her speaks very very highly of her uh I only think you know any reception that she’s at would go

Swimmingly two people you want want to have on your team especially for the King right now uh last night was the premiere of scoop the new film which tells the story of Prince Andrew’s car crash interview with Emily matless it is a behind the scenes look at how the

Interview with the dukee which abruptly ended his Royal career was secured and the way it unfolded let’s take a look at the Trailer this is the story The only story I want it for us Thursday 2 p.m. the palace two chairs in the middle of the floor 6 ft Apart uh AIA um this newsight interview was catastrophic in terms of its consequences for the Duke of York yeah and when you look at it being replayed it’s going to be out on April the 5th um it’s it just takes us back to that Day 2019 when the Juke of York thought this

Interview had gone really well yeah yeah I mean he was like great you know I’ve said everything I wanted to say it was just that went great and you’re just like wow I mean a car crash it’s literally a car crash on television but it was actually an award-winning interview as well you

Know it won some some Royal television Society awards for it um and I mean honestly when we think about it now the lines that came out you know the Pizza Express and woking and the the inability to sweat and and everything like that straight forward shooting weekend you

Know you just think to yourself my goodness who thought that this was a good idea um well they clearly didn’t think enough did they between all of them because he didn’t do this by himself he didn’t do it in a vacuum you know like everybody who involved my

Goodness what were you all thinking um but yeah I mean I honestly cannot wait to watch this on Netflix yeah I’d say he pretty much did do it in a vacuum actually he had one close adviser Amanda th but he wasn’t calling on the whole Palace who played by key hores I think

In this yeah uh film uh I I will look forward to that Key hall is another woman who’s perfectly capful of being terrifying um but you know he he was not seeking wider advice that’s the problem if he had had a big team around her

Around him uh he might not have done the interview or he might have done it in much more constrained format just given five 10 minutes just shocking that it was allowed to happen in Buckingham Palace as well you had the palace for the backdrop of that you know and it was

As they go along it’s very very odd now AIA mentioned a little while ago that Megan has announced that she’s launching a new luxury Lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard it has now been reported that the trademark application for the new Venture shows she will be selling Cosmetics body lotions and bath oils as

Well as what had previously been announced about trendy jams Butters luxury cookware and recipe books um a feia I mean it’s fascinating because we we still don’t know very much about this brand we’ve had this trailer teasing it effectively but starting to get a bit more information about how it might look

And there have also been comparisons with another brand that Megan apparently admires at Flamingo estate I think okay so starting with the what she’s going to sell I think moving into cosmetics and body products you know that kind of thing body oils and moist Rises um it’s probably a really

Good idea um she’s always kind of really loved that lifestyle thing when she had the tick she would write about this kind of stuff so I think it’s definitely a good idea for her to to go down that road expand the brand there’ll be lots

Of people that buy into it um when we look at the comparisons with another brand there’s so many brands on the market now that look like each other um and I think it there will always somebody will always find something wrong with it you know what I mean if we

Look at all the makeup brands on the market they’re not all completely different no I think if there is a situation when when her products come out cuz we still haven’t seen anything right so if we do have a situation where one body oil is exactly the same as the

Other then she’s got a problem we hav’t she did have several meetings with this brand Flamingo estate which is a Californian uh brand has been compared to kind of dalesford or whatever a sort of uber Farm Shop luxury experience she wanted to invest in them they didn’t take that investment so she’s created

Her own which is you know fair enough I think I’m not sure I know when it comes to trademarking I think we’ve had this before with the royal family where often a blanket trademark is put out for lots of things to prevent other people from doing them under that name but that

Doesn’t necessarily mean that that’s definitely what is going to come from that brand so I think interesting point actually I definitely think there will be a huge market for whatever it is um but I mean all we know really very little so far about what the plan

Actually is we’ve just got the Instagram squares and the name you know officially yeah and and a and a website with pretty much nothing on it I think so I think that it’s difficult to know exactly what it’s going to be yet I think but it’s certainly something we’re told that

Megan has been working on for a considerable uh amount of time as you say feel Builds on what she was doing before she met Harry with for examp this lifestyle blog um and I think if it’s something it’s clearly a passion project for her then she’ll do

Whatever she can to make it successful but I think now when we’re just at this holding space like you said you know we just have the squares on Instagram the video and the website with nothing on it we’re just sort of grabbing things out the air we actually don’t know what it

Is so I think she should give us something so we can decide if it emulates uh the brand that she admires you and I were having a look at some of the products sell you’re going to have to have some Deep Pockets yeah I mean uh the flamingo sorry flaming Flamingo
