For our winter getaway this year we switched from Arizona to Malaga Spain.
Julie had a video conference so I decided to rent a city bicycle for 4 hours (10 Euros) and do a ride around the city of Malaga on their bicycle path network. It was a fun ride exploring many nontourist parts of the city. Malaga is a beautiful city and its bicycle paths are very nice and separate from traffic. The biggest safety concern would be the pedestrians who walk in the bicycle paths. Although there are many bicycle paths they do not create a natural loop and require piecing a ride together. The best source of the bicycle paths seemed to be Open Street Maps with the cycling layer one (I use the Ride with GPS planning tools which allows you to switch the map layer you are using). One warning, there are more hills in Malaga than you would expect.
We rented bikes from Bike Tours Malaga (we also took their city bike tour, which is highly recommended) https://www.biketoursmalaga.com/en/

Again I’m gonna do one more ride that I’m gonna video I’m gonna do Ride Along towards the West beaches on the road but then I’m gonna go on the bike path back into the city around the university then up to the soccer field maybe in the town
A bit and back and then back down and around here back to the bike shop it depends it looks like it’d be 16 17 miles depends on how much time I have Julie was doing a conference call so I thought I’d head out on my own and
Explore some of the bike paths with Malaga so come along with me it’s a beautiful day here it’s about 60 and sunny can’t beat that so I’m gonna head on the bike path here I could go that way to the beach like we did before but
I’m gonna follow this one back into town and out to the university those are shared with the electric scooters which are very popular Now I get to go buy a lot of uh parks and circles and plazas so very nice Well it seems the uh crossing lights our bid advisory people just go and it’s still red and there’s no traffic coming so I guess that’s what you do here but I’m gonna error on the side of caution as much as possible It’s about zero fahrenheit at home with snow in our yard so this is a treat to be able to bicycle with just a long shirt on Malaga guys But now I’m headed to the West towards the university still and I was kind of wondering about this on Google Maps when it took me down the middle of the not Google Maps with open street map uh bike layer yeah right down the middle for a little bit for a while looks like Well there so consider it here Which Motors are really the most courteous in the world I think you still have to be a little careful they come up to the crosswalks about full speed until they’re about five feet away and then they stop so this is actually the University of Malaga going past all the different buildings
The orange trees the Malaga you can’t pick them off the tree it’s illegal but if you uh get them off the ground that’s fine but I guess they’re really bitter oranges so they’re not very good they’re more for uh making juice with sugar it looks like I’m getting out of the uh
University area here maybe some housing but I don’t know how much further I’m going to go I said about a mile but there was pretty cool they got I think two different train stations at least in the university for the students and there it comes right on cue
He uh looks like a light rail system Welcome our tour up to Ronda remember correctly these buildings behind me the new ones those are the engineering buildings so now I’m heading back up to the north and I’m going to head back to the east as far west as I’m going to go the bike
Trails don’t go any further west as far as I know Yeah I’m not sure what these trees are they’re uh I have to get a picture of one Foreign Oh that looks pretty nice in there but you can’t get a clear shot of it Well almost to the top of this climb and uh kind of wish I had some granny gears but uh oh well good workout so I think this is where I get on the uh the road for a touch So I think that was all the street riding I’m gonna do it was luckily uh no traffic when I was on there and now I’m back on the bike path I pulled and I’ve seen a lot of folding bikes here which makes sense people live in the small condos and apartments and you know we got the citizen folding bike so we didn’t uh fly them over here we’ve been renting bikes instead almost back to the city center but I’m
Gonna take a left here and go up to the uh soccer stadium Oh take a little break here a lot of hills in the city it’s getting warm little water and then continue on I think about five more miles to go I guess I’ve been lulled into a false census in fact I might be in some biking shape after taking four five months off
For my broken collar both but these Hills are kind of kicking my butt I’m sorry we’re going along the beach tomorrow Foreign Foreign Up again must have been some rain up in the hills anyway let me go back past the soccer stadium at Julian Iowa for a watched the game a couple weeks ago it was a lot of fun I don’t think I do it they have one Friday night but it’s at nine o’clock a
Little late for us old people so anyway I’m gonna go over here and then I’m gonna go down the other side around the soccer stadium and head on down so like most places in Malaga the multi-lane roads have a preference for bikes and scooters on the right lane Good restaurants yeah back on the bike path here green lights for me things are good they want to get video or a picture of it but I just went past the Harley-Davidson dealership back there Harley Davidson amalga Millions So just about ready to head back into the city center here across the river past the grocery store or department store so there’s the Soho District I just went across that Bridgeway down there my way out we’re just staying a few blocks up that way on the river Well just dropped off my rental bike there and finished my little route of the bike paths of Malaga pretty much stuck to what I planned give or take a bit of 17 miles total uh a lot of Hills here in malagon boy with a I guess a little seven-speed city bike
There was times I really wish I had a granny gear but I guess it’s a good ride weave my way through the city they got some light black bike paths here unfortunately there’s just no one place you can go and find out where they all are I think the open street map cycle
Map has probably the best of everything but there’s still some that are missing and you know a little confusing but you just have to venture around and have fun so so my next adventure I’ll see ya Um Thank you for watching our video like it if you liked it please comment below and subscribe so you can stay current with our adventures

It's very pretty in Spain and the bike trails look great. 👍
richard,
How long is your stay in Spain? Just wondering if you are "wintering over" until
warmer weather in Minnesota?
Great little video on cycling around Malaga. There looks to be some good dedicated cycling lanes. Are they mandatory to use? Eg if there is one do you have to use it? Seems crazy not to though.
Also do you know if there are any going between the airport and city centre? I shall be visiting in a few weeks with my Brompton and plan to ride from and to the airport.
Thanks for this video! Great job! We love to cycle on every vacation and this looks like a good ride to get to see the city. I will be checking out your other videos for Malaga.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Bicycling is such a wonderful way to see cities. We also took a bicycle tour from Bike Tours Malaga (also where we rented bikes from) which went into more of the old city of Malaga. If you will be traveling around Andalucia check out the Via Verde bike trails, we rode the La Vía Verde de la Subbética back in 2016, very nice. Thanks for watching!
