1+1= 2… £250 50p coin hunt 112 book 1

Welcome back to the channel for another coin hunt!

Today it’s the 8th January 2024 and we’re hunting through a £250 bag of 50p coins. So what are we looking for?

Commemoratives

We’d particularly like to find commemorative designs which we haven’t seen in our previous hunts so we can put them in the book. The outstanding designs are:

Very occasionally, we might even be lucky enough to find an NIFC (“Not Intended For Circulation”).

Definitives
———————————-
We’re interested in definitive designs which are either of low mintage or shouldn’t be in our change. Britannia was the definitive design from 1997-2008 and Shield is the definitive design from 2008 onwards.

For Britannia, 2008 is a lower minted year which some people keep. Any year after 2008 would be an NIFC.

For Shield, 2009-11, 2016, 2018, and 2021 are NIFC years, while 2017 is a lower minted year. There’s also a 2022 shield (tooth-fairy) which has a privy mark on the reverse.

In 2023, the Atlantic Salmon became the definitive design and an unknown number have been circulated. The NIFC version has a privy mark on the obverse.

Half later than the previous hunt which I didn’t upload because it was so terrible so hopefully we’re going to find something a little bit better today see what difference a minute and a half can make okay let’s get the bags opened up and see what we can

Find and while that bag’s been opened up let’s have a quick look at the book to see which designs were still after on page one Q Gardens the rarest 50p in circulation page two is complete on page three we’ve got a couple more Olympics we have shooting and Taekwondo and then

After that we have everything up to an including the Kings coronation and our first find of the day I think we’re in about bag three is a Benjamin bunny with no rotation error so that’s the most common commemorative 50p that you can find I will sign that one

Out and send it out for someone to find and there’s a Mrs Tiggy winkle from 2016 it’s the only 2016 that I don’t keep there is a Victoria Cross heroic ax this one should be from 2006 it was restruck in 2019 for 50 years of the 50p so keep

An eye out for that one another Mrs tigy Winkle there second one of the Day Very nice that’s a coronation 50p still not used to finding those always a little bit exciting when the when the new ones turn Up and we have an Olympic we want shooting or taond do it’s fencing had quite a few fencing so far I’m just going to quickly consult the shaky scale to find out how many we’ve already had looking down the list Goodness Me So this uh we’ve had seven

Already so this is the eighth fencing that we’ve had very cool very happy with that already this bag is considerably better than the previous one you have a Beatrix Potter anniversary as well that’s a low tier Keeper apologies about that I don’t know why the phone stopped recording the previous sunlight did it stopped recording as well ongoing technical Issues there’s a 2019 Paddington Paddington at the Cathedral and another VC heroic act actually just checked the year on this one and I’m quite sure it would be a 2006 there we Go dictionary very Common there’s the scouts this is another one of those ones that was restruck in 2019 2007 is the original there’s a Christopher iron side 2013 we have a pride very cool there’s a Peter Rabbit from 2017 second most common after Benjamin Bunny there’s another dictionary there’s a Paddington at the tower that’s the other 2019 Paddington There’s another Benjamin bunny no rotation error on that one and a memorial coin get it the right way around shaky come on there we go oh nice seeing a good find in here there it is suff Jets absolute belter decent condition as well very happy with that another Christopher IR inside and another

Pride and another Memorial coin it got me up and this is the last bag of the hunt Okay I’m going to double check all the coins now and make sure I didn’t miss anything the first time round and I’ll post back in a few seconds with what I find okay I finished checking

Through all the coins and I did find one 2020 Shield nothing special about that but I’m just keeping track of the 2020 Shields as they seem to be coming out into C culation now and then looking back at the hunt itself I think the best finds are on this bottom row here we
