Welcome to the 2024 BMX national series back at the indoor where we left things last year it’s a bit cooler today which is good for the Riders anyway the action’s just about to start on track uh looking forward to some great racing over the next couple of days obviously
It’s block racing am and pm. today um and we’ll bring you all the action here we go Okay bit of an explainer then so uh we’ve got five Nationals this year there’s two races each weekend the British championships as well in August back in Derby again great track we’ve got more and more Riders actually you know really genuinely In Contention in European events as well the European
Series kicked off a couple of weeks ago the next round in Zer is next weekend so that’s a pretty busy March for a lot of uh a lot of riders uh and of course the world championships this year in May normally they’d be Midsummer but of
Course it’s an Olympic year as well so a lot of sport to watch on TV obviously with the national series on YouTube BMX Ray sub um but of course the the the European series and uh someone down there and uh the World Championships all televised of course the Olympics so uh
Lot of lot of viewing pleasure a lot of riding to be doing as well this year and uh we’re looking to bring as much of that action to you as we Can I’m here with Finley we’ve just finished with Moto 3 I think yeah Moto 3 seems to be going well how’s it going then Finn fast fast fast really good that’s cool uh sorry the microphone’s right in your face because of this helmet new helmet by the looks of it yep
And um uh what do you think about this track quite good quite good yeah quite good quite good very fast bit cooler today actually it was very hot last time we talked to you here anyway well done Finn all right keep up the good work good
Luck okay here with uh here with Nobert Marco Nobert you had an amazing weekend here of last season looks like you started where you left off uh yeah sort of I did manage to win the first botle second motor they pushed me up on the BM
And the third motor a little bit messed up with my gate but I’m in a final so that’s all it matters too right and then there’s tomorrow as well to build on this yes yes hopefully and the plan for the Year nober stay on a bike well that
Would be novel good luck thank you uh here with Simon Ricki coach extraordinaire how’s uh how’s it do how’s it going on the track today uh well definitely better Coach than Rider today consistently um at the back of the pack but it’s first race back for a long
Time so okay we we always talk about how harsh this environment is you know like the light the sound the track obviously but I mean it’s quite unusual really it’s the whole thing it’s like an experienced running Rider isn’t it it’s like totally different to anywhere else
You the atere is different everyone’s on top of you you got to climb that big hill everything’s totally different the pressure is totally different then you got on the track and you’re riding three times as fast as you do anywhere else so it really really pushes everybody so
Like any Rider should just come just to experience it cuz it’s totally different I mean I put stra on just to go up the stairs and count every step but uh and that’s my limit maybe slide down the start Hill on my backside but um anyway look good work and thanks for rocking
The top as well cheers pleasure okay here with our Neon out of breath uh what was that quarterfinals on the cruiser quarter final on my cruiser yeah was quite good yeah quite good uh win so yeah quite good uh how’s the track feels fast bit Lippy than I
Remember but still good yeah they’ve done a bit of work on it haven’t over the winter and they resurfaced it I think before the last National you kind of um picked up where you left off there yeah cuz I don’t really RVE much for winter so last time was really the
National so yeah nice one and I think you’ll be on the big hill later on this afternoon looking forward to that sort of I haven’t really ritten it but it’ll be all right ah you’ll be fine mate all right good luck cheers uh right I’m here with Ed from
Fluent and fluent very kindly supporting the channel and we really appreciate that so um yeah um well tell us about the journey you guys have been around for sort of three or four years maybe third third season um and making Making Waves so tell me about it yeah we’re
We’re not doing too bad so uh the team was set up about 3 three and a half years ago um by Dan Rollins and Robin Smith uh both of them have taken a step back from the sport last season um and handed the Reigns over to Chris and I so
Um yeah and it’s it’s gone well so far this year um it was a bit of a baptism of fire when we first took over but uh we managed to pull it together for this season and we’ve got some great kids great Riders uh some amazing family
Members as well and yeah it’s it’s going really well so far yeah and it’s about the both isn’t it because of course A lot of these Riders are um are younger um it’s a relatively you know young um sport I suppose in terms of the average
Age um but they go all the way up obviously to you know World level and yes Olympics and everything else it’s quite a big sport in that sense so why why why I guess why BMX why BMX well I suppose for myself it all started uh probably about 5 years ago my little
Ladder on a balance bike uh and then it was a natural transition to the BMX track and you just fall in love with a squad don’t you and it s like grabs you with both hands and then uh I think once you’re in you’re in and that’s uh that’s
It and yeah it’s a uh it’s a wave that you end up riding but a very good one as well what’s the plan for this year you’ve got some super Talent on the team and made did really well last year as well yeah so the team team’s changed
Quite a bit from last year we’ve pulled in um some amazing talent this year so uh last year’s team is fairly fairly different uh to this year’s team but the riders that we’ve got on board this year are phenomenal and uh we’re very lucky
To have them on the team as well so uh yeah we’re super stoked and uh fingers crossed season goes well for us here with Chris you know it’s only been about 3 years or so um but what an amazing amount of progress that you’ve made already thanks very much yeah no it’s
Um it’s been thoroughly enjoyable as well every step of the way but I think the really really rewarding thing is it’s all kids as well so we’re a very very young team not just young in terms of been around for three years but the the rider makeup you know we’re starting
Down at fours and fives and I think our oldest Rider has just turned 15 this year so uh yeah young young young team Young Riders what is it about BMX that you you know you really like what reason for supporting it well the main reason
Is that Benny chose it so Ben you know Benny Benny was freestyling for a couple of years but you know tying into what you guys are doing YouTube was critical cuz one day he just came back to us from YouTube and said can I try BMX racing
Dad we’d never seen it he showed us a clip on YouTube and before you know it two years down the line we’re going to America for the World Championships traveling around Europe and Benny’s having the time of his life but it it was Benny’s choice we came we were
Welcomed but without YouTube we’d never even seen a BMX race okay also thinking about evolve um bikes as well I know you’re involved with that and um working with uh working with them so tell us about the bike tell us about the frame I suppose yeah well Liam um out evolves so
He’s he’s the designer um designed it over here get gets them built abroad but brings them in sprays them up um but it’s utterly unique so the unique element to it is the uh the headset moves forwards backwards minus 6 mil so a lot like some of the technology in
Mountain biking but what that means Benny for instance that we’ve built is we’ve been able to lengthen the front end shorten the back end which does the same plus or minus 6 mil and really bespoke build the bike to to to him as the rider um but what it also does means
Is it means that we can go from expert to expert XL all within the same frame so you know some of the techs you know utterly unique for BMX racing it’s been around in the mountain bike world but to bring it across and get it into a carbon
Frame and fork set with chain tensioners and seat clamps and everything thrown in you know hatsoft to Liam he’s done a brilliant job and certainly the guys that have been riding in my team have all been smashing PBS and throwing them around the track faster than faster than
They’ve ever been so at the minute everything’s working brilliantly with a bike I guess that’s pretty good when uh you know as a a child you know you wake up and your arms and legs are a bit longer than they were the day before so you can move uh flip your chip or
Whatever it might be that you need to do but yeah and they look pretty rad as well they do paint job on them is brilliant but not it’s not just good for the kids it’s good for the dads who pay for the frames as well so uh but yeah
Hats off honestly Liam’s been nothing but brilliant for the team and the amount of sort of time and effort is put in to make sure that these bite Works before it gets out on the track have really paid off really paid off you know
How s to him well we’ll keep an eye they certainly catch the eyes so well done yeah thanks very much indeed right Junior open up next junior open the finalist go crle on the inside Cornish on the outside heading on towards turn number one force it in the middle trying to dive
Underneath and get himself a top fre oh B Cornish has hit the deck so kle fory Simpson that’s you one two three of the minute everybody has ended up in a situation where they can’t get through the pro section but Jimmy kiddle in and out of the final Corner crucial racing
He’s going to get it oh FES dropped it in the final turn right here with uh here with Jim Jimmy kiddle winner of today’s Junior men uh stepping up this year how’d it go today Jim uh yeah I felt good on my bike all day um Long Winter working hard
Every day being on the um Olympic development Squad with Marcus this year who’s helped me a lot and obviously my coach back at my club Ian Brooks he does so much for me I just want to say thank you to him and my parents cuz without
Them I won’t be here where I am right now ah for sure and I’ve seen a lot of you this winter and it’s uh yeah it’s quite emotional seeing you there you know with with the stuff we we’ve been doing I mean I just think it’s fantastic the pathway the opportunity you guys
Have got and obviously the time that you put in you personally put in is paying dividends yeah yeah I think it shows that if you work hard you can do anything cuz when I first started out I was like National 17 and I got my head
Down to it and one winter I just thought right I want this now and it’s the day that came true and I’m I’ve won my first national and Junior men it feels amazing surreal stands out well done mate thank you very much Champion women leave the gay
Freer the Slayer and Bethany sha heading towards turn number one sienra Harvey on the inside Betsy backs on the outside Elsa renel Todd trying to thread the needle but he’s the world and Olympic champion shria out there in front Freya chalice keeping her on there’s only three Pilots between him but Bey start
To open up a lead now in and out the final Corner shria chalice Harvey B renle Todd that’s going to be a one two three four and five ta G six Lucy Simpson seven Cody hmer in eight all right we’re here with best Rea winner of today’s uh women Elite uh home
Track obviously you spent a lot of time here Beth how how’d it go today yeah really well um trying to get some laps in before uh we go to test event in Paris still working on a few things um hence why my starts haven’t been you know but yeah it’s work in progress
Feeling good um and yeah it’s just great to get in the mix with the young girls again yeah they’re um they’re getting a little bit closer but you know it’s amazing is it Towing them along there and obviously San Quintin and Paris so that’s the focus eh yeah 100% it’s great
To see fre as a absolute Powerhouse mate so I know I got to be on my aame um but yeah it’s just great to be in the mix with them having fun and uh yeah now it’s full focus on obviously Paris and getting used to that track and yeah
Putting some good laps down there as well all right M well good luck all right thanks right super class lined up on the gate ready to go for the final final of the day the gate drops on super class for round number one of the 2024 national
Series Mor and Gilson into turn number one who’s going to get it Gilson leads it Moos in there in two flashes in three on there in about four battling it out with Russell into the turn looks like we’ve lost Russell in the corner it’s gilston more Fletcher one two three in
And out of the final corner Matthew Gilson take a BAL he’s going bring it to the strip steady Ed him more for two look at the Battle for four GT’s Harry Tanner Nicks it on the line okay here with Matt gilston Matt gilston stepping up taking the uh superclass today how
Does that feel Matt yeah great um it’s actually fun enough my second ever National win I won my first national I was 13 and it was here so it feels nice to get back on the top step at a national um obviously racing with my teammate eddm good battles out there and
Yeah finished off the day with with a with a win and a PB lap so absolutely buzzing so uh Second National win that’s not a bad not a bad Second National win is it really so I know a lot of work goes into that um into all of this by
All of you guys so just uh tell us a little bit about that um yeah so obviously I moved up here to train fulltime in Manchester back in October and since then you know it’s been day in day out absolutely grinding here trying to make sure you know that we come into
This season as fast as possible and I feel like I’m in a really good place now um obviously hitting times that I’ve not hit before is great feeling and uh yeah the work’s certainly paying off for sure well what on mate nice one and good luck for the rest of the year right
Appreciate it thank You hello welcome to day two round two here in Manchester BMX national series uh great racing yesterday looking forward to uh even more for action on track today really good to see the Riders back on track uh great weather doesn’t matter there’s a roof but it is nicer weather today um slightly slightly
Warmer in the hall actually which is uh is great for the spectators less so for the racers yeah looking forward to the action on track okay here with Ellie Featherstone um just won the semi-final one of your semi-finals so a little bit out of breath but how was the how was
That race Ellie yeah I me it’s obviously one of them it’s a bit of a tight track took the win yesterday so yeah I mean we got off to a positive POS start and then yeah just left it out on the track I mean that time it was like a final so I
Just thought give it your best shot get out the gate and yeah just do what you can so paid it off well the air skills are really important here and that’s going really well so it it really shows um what about the plans for the year
What’s what’s on your list this year uh yeah obviously busy year I’ve got coaching team set up now so it’s good to see the younger generation coming through and you know even just getting on the truck and you know like seeing the Riders progresses just so yeah is
Proud to see and you know obviously for myself I’ve got a busy season ahead and Nationals European round and yeah obviously endir so yeah we got a lot coming up I’m looking forward to it all right well well done and good luck for the final Perfect all right thanks a lot
Here with uh Martin Smiley Brown uh more of a Grimace how was that lap pretty tough pretty tough just trying to put the laps in feeling a bit rough today but as old as the plan so just get get this weekend over with and uh get on the
Road to Belgium yeah nice one well we’ll see you out there it’s a good event that one what are you looking forward to you most about the European racing then well I had second there last time so just as long as I can make a couple of finals
See if I can get close to that top I’ll be I’ll be happy with that nice one good flowy track as well so yeah and um plan for the year what’s the what’s the big big one for you this year to finish with a number two was not the plan so there’s
Only one plan after that isn’t there there is a slightly smaller number all right good luck nice enj okay uh here with uh captain of the world Michael whttiger Michael how’s it going today it’s going all right it’s not going as fast as I’d like it but I
Did put air in my tires for the third M and I got fourth so I think there’s a a lesson to be learned there which uh air in tires is good no a tires is bad that’s uh that’s that’s fundamental so um the the advice really I suppose is go
To a bike shop and buy a buy buy a pump it could be and if you do need one B Cycle Works uh yeah uh yeah I sell bikes I don’t maintain bikes um so there’s a lesson to be learned there as well check your tires kids check them okay uh time
For our first one of the year the inside line with Rich eam and Lewis Locker we’re not going to change your name this year leis we’re going to keep it the real the real deal so um yeah and doing this live for the first time on on the
Live feed which is uh which is pretty cool um yeah yeah well we could possibly go wrong so um near the end of the second day racing it’s been as You’ expect pretty pretty high level a lot of people have you know picked things up where
They left them at the end of the last series actually here in the indoor weather was different um but yeah we’ve had snap cranks and handlebars we’ve had quite some pretty big crashes the speed is pretty pretty big and obviously a very hard surface so what do you make of
It yeah it’s been an interesting week already I think with kind of it being the First National of the year there’s so much pent up energy that comes into this race you know everyone’s been fairly quiet over winter not done a huge amount depending on kind of where you
Reside in the UK we’ve been lucky enough to spend quite a bit of time at the indoor but yeah a lot of riders come in they’ve got that National buzzer aboutum they just want to get involved everybody’s just got so much pent up penergy and it just turns out that it
Can make for some really high energy racing action and uh yeah I mean starting at the sort of the the the top end I suppose in some ways or the the the top end that’s becoming uh Jimmy C yesterday Lewis wow he was on fire I
Mean he’s been on fire all day today as well he’s he’s absolutely flying obviously he’s been putting in the work over the winter and it’s obviously paying off now and he’s uh he’s at the top of his game as it stands he is at the top of his game and that’s just
That’s just as simple as you can put it really and he’s a youngster it’s uh you know the future’s bright isn’t it I Matt gilston as well yesterday taking the win in the in the uh super class and he told me it was his second ever National win
Which sort of hard to believe really and the last one was when he was 13 so yeah he’s just moved back up to Manchester last end of last year and you know in the program and obviously you know working really hard yeah he’s working hard Matt he he’s a real grafter as well
He’s getting some support now from Allens bmx.com and Supercross so he’s got all the ingredients there to kind of progress into the elite ranks and do quite well I’m very excited to see what Matthew can bring us nice one and yeah and uh I think you know that pathway
Delivering the results I think you know there has been some criticism over the years and there’s been some gaps but the gaps are being filled uh I think you know the whole program stepping up it’s I mean it’s so rad on track with these slightly older ones but of course as a
Olympic year Beth and fingers crossed on that front and and Kai obviously and and and all the others hopefully two male Olympic um places fingers crossed on that but yeah Beth building to hopefully a crescendo what do you reckon leis I think definitely I think Beth is again
Another one that’s on top of a game uh it’s very hard for anyone to catch her even at the World Cups I mean obviously we’ve seen s has been riding really well as well but Beth is at the top of a game at the minute obviously just coming off
The back of a world Champs win last year uh coming into the world Champs in in a in a couple of months time I think everything’s sort of there for Beth to build on it and take that Olympic gold again definitely I I don’t think that there’s anyone really that can uh take
That offer as such I know obviously there’s a couple of other girls in that age group that are that are flying as well but I think on Beth’s day no one’s touching Beth not at all she said she’s working on a gate and a few bits and pieces and that’s fair enough you’re
Real technical detail obviously and I’ve seen them working here really hard and you guys have as well but yeah Future’s bright for women’s BMX right up and down the age groups I mean not picking on anyone in particular but you know the female 15s Ruby and the and the girls in
That age group and there’s a couple of 14s or 15s riding with the boys as well you know there’s a whole load of talent coming through hey yeah there definitely is I mean yesterday’s final round number one um Ruby Moos and Lexi were absolutely leaning on one another in
That first turn there was no quarter asked or given nobody was backing down for an instant and that’s what we want to see and our like I said our young female Riders who were coming through there’s so much talent it’s great to see and I just hope it continues yeah
Likewise and I think the male 14s as well again not to really pick I mean they’re they’re all really super talented but the 14s and there’s one or two in there that are riding up as well as we know but um you know kai boen looking super smooth and he’s just one
Of several who’ve already made World Finals at such a young age I mean there must be six or seven in that age group who’ve made World Finals multiple finals I mean again the 14s is just stacked every Moto that’s getting on the gate there’s there’s some sort of European
British Championship plate a world plate there’s there’s always someone on the gate that can pull something out of the bag even if like you seen some of the Riders that are perhaps a mid pack Rider they’re not getting the best of gates they’re still throwing moves they’re
Still trying to make something happen in these turns and it makes for some great race in the yeah that 14s is a great class yeah yeah the other age group as well that I want to just pick on is the 13s because it’s the biggest class of
The weekend we’ve had over 50 riders in there on each day the level is ridiculous for such young Lads and they’re all pushing their absolute hardest I mean from the quarters onwards they’re basically just like 8man Mains anybody can get in there you’ve got like your top eight and then there’s a group
Of about what maybe 50 15 to 16 kids who were all very very evenly matched and it’s so mixed up it’s so good to watch you know even from the 13s onwards the future is definitely bright yeah that’s really cool and just going to the other
End of the market as it were uh couple of couple of names to mention we had hillian re in uh Moto one round one yesterday and uh I don’t know it looked like they were I don’t know it looked like a world final to be honest and then
SJ taking a win as well Sarah Jane after I think you were recalling the spirit of the mid 80s weren’t you earlier on it’s not just the Vans obviously it’s the the racing on track but you know I thought I thought it was awesome you know seeing
Those guys still jking it out and SJ stepping up as well yeah definitely uh Serj Nichols you know get me in a time machine get me back to slow in 1986 because that was just probably one of the moments of the weekend is for me and
Hilly and Rey battling away like the pro class 1996 it’s just so good can’t wait to see more of it there we go well the inside line uh with uh three wise uh three wise men hopefully I think anyway anyway and the first live one as well
And I don’t think we I think it went all right I think it went all right yeah yeah all right well thank you very much and on with the racing here’s the finals Junior men lining up on the gates G goes down junior man hit the track that’s kiddle on the inside
Cornish is on the outside into the turn forces throwing it under looking for an elbow bash with Cornish didn’t quite make it up in this time so it is kidle Cornish forcing one two three Penny goes B through the pro set as well Simpson and Hill have come together out of the
Turn it is kle out FR Cornish on the inside looked up didn’t quite make it happen Jimmy kreddle two for two what a weakend his hard Cornish for it Simpson 2 3 4 the penultimate final of the first national weekend of 2024 we have got the super glass heading down towards turn
Number one who’s going to pick up the whole shot anymore Mar Fletcher in there in two Harry Tanner in three Here Comes Bradley Russell in there in four Jos manam in five Taylor hun trying to thread the needle on the inside as they come in and out of that second turn
Eddie Mo crucial BMX heading for the final Corner as SM flet you got anything for him they will drag race down the final straight Ed more Mark Fletcher going to go one and two Tanner for three Russell manum wow wow wow Charlie Roy Taylor hun and Dean
Reeves all righty we will move on now to the championship women final the final final of the first two rounds of the 2024 British BMX national series it’s good to be back Championship women the final is go who’s going to take the win oh one rer
Down that is Betsy PX I think who’s hit the deck on straight number one beffy sha out in front Freya the Slayer in there into Sienna Harvey holding on to that bike for dear life in three as they head down towards the third straight be Shara opening up a lead now aboard that
Gold prophecy taking the rainbow Stripes to yet another win shria is going to take it to the line fre the Slayer in two Sienna Harvey in three who’s going to get the four Elsa rendle tods okay I’m here with well all three of the uh the payback classes I suppose you might
Call them we’ve got uh junior junior Men superclass Elite women uh Jimmy Two out of two this weekend good way to start the the the series how’s it going yeah really good uh I guess hard winter paid off today uh two from T it feels great
Yeah really good mate and um Eddie we spoke a year ago so lot Quite A lot’s happened in a year mate about a bit uh I broke my hand before worlds um that put me out for a little while and then got selected for the program which was great
Um and then since then just had rehab and then working to get back to where I was and Beyond so yeah hard Works paying off same for me um yeah it was nice to round it off with the win today yeah good work good to chat to Matt yesterday
And you today lots of reasons for that and um and Beth uh uh completing the crucial uh triple here I suppose yeah another another lap well done yeah all good uh Road consistently yeah just having fun out there it’s just great to see all these young girls coming through I’m excited
To see their Journey as they go on through Supercross and yeah it’s great having a great time all right well I’ll let you all get your breath back there’s a Podium over there um really well done for the weekend guys and good luck well that’s it for rounds one and
Two of the BMX national series at the mancher indoor track uh the home of British cycling uh we’re done for another year there but um it really didn’t fail to deliver excellent racing on track really looking forward to the rest of the series a few Riders quite a
Few Riders you know really laying down a marker um for what you know what they’ve been working on over the winter and of course let’s see how that pans out this year thanks very much to channel sponsors British cycling of course uh to NX teamware and to crucial BMX we’ll see
You in a few weeks time in cycl park
