Or so many trolls claim. This chap, apart from the phone use, was perfectly alright, btw. I don’t think it’s fair to generalise about builders.

Stationary phone drivers are still dangerous for many reasons:

    1) The people using their phones when stationary are often the same people using them when moving. Being caught whilst stationary is a co-incidence, not a defence. It’s easier for me to catch them when stopped, but so many were also seen using their phones when moving.
    2) They are entirely unaware of people crossing the road around them. See here where a phone driver almost hits someone in the queue

See this other tweet where a 5 year old child is almost hit by a phone driver who was stationary:
    https://x.com/cmdkenyon/status/1724483042046067052?s=20
    3) They are entirely unaware of filtering cyclists and motorcyclists, despite the Highway Code requiring us to be aware of this.
    4) Phone distraction lasts for a good time after you put the phone away. Even if you’re only using the phone in each traffic queue at each junction (which is highly unlikely), then you’re constantly topping up your mental distraction and are basically as disabled as a drunk driver.
    5) Phone driving is worse than drink driving for distraction rates, and that’s why it’s part of the #Fatal4 behaviours that police target heavily.
    6) Here’s a police officer telling you that he has been on the scene for 3 fatal RTCs involving drivers who were stationary whilst using their phones, and then moved off and caused a collision: https://twitter.com/markandcharlie/status/1604073330751197184?s=20&t=uj8sgu7spu4cTyDqqqds2g
    7) Policing phone drivers will help them stop other traffic offences too – it’s vanishingly rare that someone only breaks a single traffic law like mobile phone use.
    8) Parliament recently chose to strengthen the mobile phone law around stationary phone use because it’s dangerous and the science supports this.

I’m really not interested in this nonsense of “it’s not dangerous when stationary, because it clearly is and it’s clearly still very appropriate to catch these drivers.

    1. Nice of him to give his mobile phone number on the side of his van. If you see him driving again, give him a call and see if he answers. (Just kidding of course)

    2. This sort of behaviour is similar to what some cowardly French people who were sycophants to the Germans in WW2 did to their own. Welcome to the Stalin/Hitleresque Informing Nation of COLLABORATORS. The driver was stopped, just more Nanny State stuff to let this onanist get off on his informing. I hope he bumps into someone that shows him his erotic perverse behaviour is rather wrong.

    3. Mikey, never stop doing this until the nation has understood just how shameful it is, trying to drive while you're using a phone. Every tv appearance, newspaper article etc must surely get the point across in the end.

    4. It wouldn’t had helped if you told him kindly to put his phone away. He would have said that he was stationary. So, he gets the fine and 6 points and now he knows. Don’t be afraid to pull over professional drivers. The law applies to everyone, even if you accidentally catch a builder.

    5. I really really am confused, this is an offence under the law I get that. but I saw one of your videos on that infamous gandalf corner, and the driver was on the wrong side and drove into you and drove with you on the bonnet it went to court and wouldv have expected the driver to get suspended from driving with points but that never happened. It looked like that driver pulled strings to get off?

    6. Let's be fair, we would all love to use our phones while driving, how convenient, but we all don't. Most of us respect that the law exists to prevent accidents and injuries so we abide by it. The drivers featured in your videos Mikey, clearly show no respect for the law or the safety of others. Keep it up, your message is getting through.

    7. Mikey, you do good work, but your work would be better if it was captured as covertly as possible. I’m genuinely concerned that one day you will come unstuck . I also don’t think road safety wise having debates with drivers in the street is a good idea for either of you. That guy who ran after you in the street a few videos ago genuinely frightened me. I know it won’t do your viewing numbers any good, but please Mikey, go covert.

    8. Get a proper job you grass!! You would last 2mins in Sicily. Please post cyclist breaking the law as we all see it every day but obviously you dont because you are biased
