5MV-WG – Garmin and rain: don’t mix?
————————————–
https://www.buymeacoffee.com/fiveminutevelo
In a recent video (https://youtube.com/shorts/tqK-mmj1cPc?feature=share) I showed the annoying and frustrating consequence of rain falling on my Garmin (Edge 1030) touchscreen. In the past I have had minor reconfigurations take place, for instance a change of language. In the most recent episode, the device carried out a full factory reset, I lost all of my data, personal information and profiles. I managed to restore some of the information but I still had to do a lot of manual reconfiguring of the device.
In this video I show you how to (probably) avoid this happening to you. It works for my Garmin Edge 1030, I have not tried it on other touchscreen devices but I assume it operates similarly. Let me and the other viewers know if this works or not on other models.

About the 5MV channel
————————————–
My name is Terry and I love cycling. I have named my channel “Five Minute Velo” (5MV). I have called it 5MV because the videos I upload will (mostly) last no longer than five minutes. Each video will cover just one subject that is described in the title. Although the channel is mainly about cycling on the road, I will also cover some light (gravel) off road riding and cycle touring from time to time. No matter what, much of the advice will be pertinent to many branches of the sport/pastime.
I am new to posting videos on YouTube (May 2020) and I have much to learn, particularly in terms of presentation style and production quality. As such I welcome constructive comments that will help me improve the videos that I produce and upload.
There may be some dry humor in some of the videos, so dry it may not always be obvious :-).

Terry
It’s raining again today sometimes when it rains it interferes with the operation of my Garmin that’s because it has a touch screen and as the raindrops fall on it it thinks it’s being touched and that can activate some of the functions for instance in the past the falling rain has changed the unit’s
Language annoying but not a big problem recently in some very heavy rain the unit went through a series of commands that completely reset the device that’s a full factory reset I lost all of my data all of my setting and all of my profiles now that was frustrating and
Annoying lucky for me the rain isn’t too intense today there is however a way of avoiding those problem s and that’s to carry out a so-called screen lock the way to initiate that screen lock is to press and hold the power button for a second or two because I’m
Currently recording an activity the only option here is the lock screen select it and the screen will be socalled locked however it’s not fully locked you can still swipe left and right in order to get from one data screen to another however that’s the only touchscreen function that’s available nothing else will
Work that should prevent water droplets activating the screen in an unwanted fashion when you lock the screen make sure it’s on a data screen otherwise you won’t be able to access them press and hold the power button again in order to unlock the screen I hope you found this tip useful
If you did give it a thumbs up and consider subscribing from me until the next video it’s goodbye
