    Today, we have the privilege to take the new Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 out for a ride. We are the first to ride this, so no silly antics, just a sensible ride. It is such a great bike, and as I was really enjoying myself, the video has ended up being longer than it should be, hey ho !
    Please stay until the end, where you can see some close up photo’s, and the spec sheet’s for both the Shotgun 650 and the Super Meteor 650 for comparison. By the way, with a really low 795mm seat height, it is perfect for shorter riders too.

    Right morning all here we are at crew motorcycle center again and Roger has invited me to have a go on the new Royal mfield 650 shotgun so really looking forward to taking this one out let’s go now I’ve ridden the uh super meia a while

    Back uh I’ll try and put a link a link up there somewhere for you to have a look at that now then where should we go now this is brand new it’s not been out on the road at all so the tires are new and everything else so

    Got be a little bit careful you know um now I used to own a uh 650 Interceptor so I’m familiar with the 650 twins But I tell you something straight away this feels so smooth go On um right we back the uh the riding riding position is you’re slightly forward you’re leaning slightly forward um whereas on the uh super metor obviously you’re sitting back cuz it’s a cruiser uh and the foot position the foot Peg positions on this the the shotgun are just uh they’re in like a

    Natural position very similar to the classic 350 Uh and to anyone who doesn’t know I own a classic 350 at low speeds anyway I can’t believe how smooth it is uh now from what from what I’m aware uh I might be wrong I don’t think they’ve really done anything with the engine have they uh since the first one which came out in what 2019 um mine was a 2020

    But honestly it just I can’t believe how smooth it feels by comparison while we’re waiting for these lights what we got we’ got the speedo around the outside got fuel gauge gear indicator trip time and then that there will be the uh uh Tripper which is like a turn by

    Turn uh satnav thing that links to your Phone it’s um I will warn you it’s a very windy day today and it’s busy cars all over the Place uh like I say it’s only done well 4.3 miles Now so uh the brakes will W beding in tires going on here learner a learner overtaking a push Bike Oh that sky is looking a bit threatening I do hope it doesn’t Rain um now the weight of these I think um uh is about what is it about 230 kg or something which which which is heavy isn’t it but I’m telling you now honestly you can’t feel it um I I recently rode the uh Benelli trk

    702 which I think uh I might be wrong but you know have a look on Google uh the trk 702 I think is about about the similar weight to this uh obviously it’s got all the fairings and everything else going on um but that felt you could feel the weight on

    That um but you can’t feel the weight on this at all obviously with it be having a low center of gravity and everything uh and I can I can hear I don’t know if you’ll be able to pick up uh the exhaust are far away you know they’re far

    Backwards um but I can hear them nice little Bural and my first impressions are That I would probably like bar uh to raise the bars just a bit just just a little bit but I feel kind of arched over them a little bit but it’s only because I’m not used to it isn’t It Oh stay away Rain it feels I can’t believe how smooth how smooth it feels um when compared to my old interceptor cu the Interceptor felt quite raw you know um again they might have changed Them uh I’m I’m missing the rev counter that’s my only criticism so far um but it is what it is in it you know you know you know that the shotgun 650 doesn’t come with a a rev counter so oh that back Brake’s Lovely um now mistakenly I when I first saw the pictures of the shotgun I thought it was really just a super metor with different bows and different foot bag position but there’s actually quite a big difference uh for the start the uh the steering head angle has been

    Altered um so making it tighter so making it like more Flickable uh it’s running on different sized wheels and we’ll have a walk around in a bit uh I can’t remember what the size is of everything the uh super meteor um but what I’ll do at the end of this video uh with in the

    Photos uh cuz I I like I say I usually take a load of photos and uh add them to the end of the video um I’ll put the specs in for both this and the super metor at sometime um I don’t know when I might do a comparison between the

    Two uh but with this having the normal foot rest position that back brake is brilliant they’ve improved that tell you now oh smooth as I’d need to uh man I have to do this on my uh Interceptor is raise the um adjust the gear lever so it’s just up a

    Little bit to get my boot under it but that’s all down to personal uh personal Sa I don’t I don’t know if you I look in the mirror the sky behind going to be lucky to get away without uh getting rained on I Think slots into neutral Lovely take a right here I wish people when they’re on the roundabout would indicate to give you a clue where it is they’re going oh this is the throttling on this you know the fueling I should say lovely um yeah I told when I took the

    Super meteor out uh I was actually very surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did because I don’t really do Cruisers I don’t do do the you know bomb down um uh feet forward position take a left here Now got carried away then forgetting I’ve got brand new tires On uh um there’s a few people that probably watch this and think that yeah I’m a royal mfield Fanboy uh which I am to a certain point I suppose um but you like what you like don’t you oh uh yeah and I’m I’m I mean people have had problems with their Royal

    Enfields um but I’ve not had any real major problems with mine uh okay admittedly I’m waiting for a replacement speedo on my classic 350 uh that’s what whatever is it uh but I just like them you know the the the I like the I like the price of them you

    Know they’re something different they’re away from Mainstream and this is no Exception uh the only thing for me is um I’m not a I’m not a great fan of black exhausts Um I like a bit of bling on my bikes uh but like I say we’ll we’ll pull over somewhere in a bit and have a walk Around look at the state of the roads here this is a main a road look it Reef well it’s the same all over the UK but cheser East they want sack in a lot of them um so here we are now we’re sitting at like 50 m hour uh sorry Roger I don’t know what the running in speeds are but 4550 it’s very comfortable like I say the only little thing for me is that the

    I would want the bar to be a little bit higher oh No I was hoping not to get it dirty uh anyway yeah so for me I’d want the bars to be a little bit Higher that bad break is brilliant um yes where was I yes so I’m just been sitting here 40 45 50 whatever um no vibrations whatsoever none through the bar uh and that steering Ed angle obviously between this and the super meteor you can really feel the difference I like this a lot

    Uh the seat is like a saddle uh as opposed to one piece and the rear half has got a really brilliant feature uh which I think is about time someone did This that’s love this this bike is lovely um so much so I don’t want to take it back I was going to pull into the pub here to take a photo but what I’ll do uh I’ll go a bit further there used to be a garage there

    Where those houses are I used to work there werson Garage yeah you can still feel you know the uh the heart of the SE 50 is still there it’s just it’s just so much Smoother all the blinking 40 limit long here now oh traffic Control excellent visibility out of the Mirrors just see the little bits of my elbows right um sorry if there’s a lot of wind noise um but it is a windy day and with it being a Naked Bike obviously we get the wind directly at us um yeah I going to stop a thing and

    Take a photo what I’ll do we’ll have to come back this way then I don’t fully need it Oh good grief there a mess in it oh oh I thought it’ be nice there never mind right we’ll go back I’ll find somewhere else there’s a nice uh Hall at the end of the well judging by the state of the road and that there I’d say it’s probably not nice anymore dodington Hall I could certainly do big miles on this getting carried away it’s a sweet handling pipe um cuz I’ve done comparisons between this and the super meteor uh but I’ve not looked at the comparison between this and the Interceptor cuz the sea height does look feel that much

    Lower even though it it looks there you know uh now I could go down there um but there’s some um there’s a gate house or a couple of gate houses down here might be a nice place to take a Photograph Uh hopefully it’s not messy like that um the entrance to dington there bloody bloody bins God’s sake right I’ve just turned around um we’ll just go in this P car par Here do here would it right sides done down easy to find look at that right just show you this on this eat right so the Cump like that Pull It Forward you’ve got a rack how good is that now I’ve done something similar on my classic 350

    Where I’ve just taken the seat pad this thing off the back and I strapped a tail tidy onto onto it and I was saying at the time I thought why doesn’t someone just do that Lo beh old Ro Enfield have um and then you could actually just take

    This off all together then and make it into dare I say it a bobber now you wouldn’t you would never understand how much I hate that term bobber Look at that now the engine casings I like I like this gloss black finish with the raised Royal mfield logo in like cut

    Aluminium I’m not going to touch it cuz it’s got there you go not sure about the color of this one there are other colors available obviously uh quite nice of that quite high up that’s not too bad I could live with that getting getting any any more on

    That be like the old uh triph bathtub on it remember them the old our old of Watchers would remember the TR of bathtub was it a 3ta or 5A or something it’s got a radiator guard oil cooler guard I should say cuz obviously it’s an oil and air cool

    Engine so yeah they’ve altered the the steering head angle from the super meteor it’s still got the chunky chunky castings they’re all very nice nice finish yeah and this we’re running I say we’re running 17in tires aren’t we I think 18s there you go I’m wrong 18 in

    But I think on the super metri is it 19 and 16 19 front 16 rear I think whereas this is uh these are 18 both front and rear I think down there oh 17 bloody hell I’m wrong just 18 front 17 rear looks all right doesn’t it goes all

    Right feels all right I mean you got a great big chunky thing here maybe it could have been a bit shorter no but the bars for me would I just have raised just a little bit yeah and they altering the gear the yeah so I don’t know if you can see down

    There I’m not going to get me on too close to the engine there’s a nut lot n there so you just to undo that and you can raise that just up a little bit right so I’m going to take a few photos now and I’ll get back to you in men

    Right time to take it back nice bike I say it’s a just a big saddle as opposed to a bench easy to get your leg over it were Tripper built with Google One Way shows how maneuverable it is very easy to ride I’m go left here

    Let him go he’ll be in bigger bigger hurry than me gear box sweet Road’s not so Sweet um just little things like uh ice didy for one for example says that uh self- counseling indicators should be mandatory uh and I actually quite agree with that um don’t get me wrong I’m not one for uh adding things for adding sake I think um self-cancelling indicators especially for those old FY

    Dudes that tend to forget to forget to switch them off you know Uh Roger hasn’t set the clock 1944 that says that’s very nice of you thank you see this garage here REM garage wh gr I bought a car off them once never again robbing dangerous anyway I’ve got a mate who owns that b Rambo haven’t been down here for ages potholes good

    Grief you know when they put these Square things around them with paint I mean this this see that one there has been there for ages do they ever actually do anything us it just to highlight it to Us uh and I know I’ve said it before I want to say it again I can’t believe how smooth this is uh because my um oh body hell uh my old Interceptor was quite agriculture actually in comparison uh oh by the way I love that bike I had it for 3 years

    So uh got made me mind of which way I’m going back Now let’s go this way Maniac in the middle of the Road oh it’s just starting to Rain oh it’s absolutely Sublime around the BS yeah okay we’re not knocking on but Um Shooted yeah white van the misson flyer has sent them to torment me now look at this Grief I mean it’s really comfortable to just you know even at very low revs like this low speeds you know 20 m an hour the fueling is absolutely spot on there’s no searching going on you know I mean what’s all that about I mean I’m having having a bit of a rant

    Now it wouldn’t be so bad if they were actually doing anything about out the roads but they’re not they’re like building flaming houses Everywhere Yeah lovely bike maybe get a set of um uh SL slightly Freer flowing exhaust on it I don’t know actually from from where we’re sitting here it do sound quite sweet Um this might end up being quite a long video Actually so I think we’ll go on the Dual carriageway see what it’s like down there Did the hes I’m going take a ride Here another Left uh when we had the Interceptor it didn’t have a gear indicator um and like the classic 350 hasn’t got a gear indicator so you find yourself going for that extra gear all the time uh excuse me I’m just going to have a Cough um yeah so just been able to glance down there it is quite handy Obviously with it being a um Naked Bike you have got the wind blast uh but I like that you know it’s a proper feeling of riding a motorbike okay admittedly over very long distances it can get a bit tired ining but stop have a Br anyone else hate these yellow bloody speeding things God we’ll take a left there now Um yeah so basically the shotgun to me is a very comfortable a very capable bike uh which reminds me a lot reminds me more of my Interceptor um than uh when from when I test Rod the the super meteor which is kind of bizarre um now we then field our reputed

    To Bringing out a classic uh 650 which I guess will be like this but with spoked wheels and a bit more bling BL H uh yeah be like this with a bit more bling I think obviously I haven’t seen it cuz nobody else has either um

    Yeah I mean like I say there’s that term bobber that I really really detest um and I I don’t even I I don’t know what a bobber is you know uh I think it used to be in back in the day when people used to get the

    Bikes and take the seats off and put different bars I don’t I don’t know I don’t I’m clutching at straws I haven’t got a clue um but this is it’s a nice bike it’s it’s a nice bike whatever title you want to give It uh me personally I would have this over the super metor because only because I don’t like the uh forward controls um but like I did say I’m I’m getting used to a bit more now I’ve ridden it but I’d still probably want the bars to be a little bit

    Higher um it doesn’t help cuz I got a I’ve got a knacked uh shoulder uh right shoulder from when I got knocked up off my bike in 1982 so Uh so when you down a bit you I feel it more probably than other people Do look at look at the look at the fueling on this now like I say 30 mph forth gear and it’s it’s smooth as you it’s it’s excellent it really is um say rid Sun bikes that they’re like just you know terrible really um it tends to get a bit busy now going

    In going to the bike shop so uh it’s really nice it’s not nice I mean I’m five 5′ n with a 30in inside the leg and uh I’m flat footed with a slight Bend IN me Knee where fast him uh yeah so we’re going to be uh in the 30 now and with lots of traffic and everything so I’ll bring you back when we’re closer to the shop all right we’re back the um like change of direction is absolutely brilliant you know going from right to

    Left really really is good oh God the uh a lot of these roads now they they’re down to the cobbles aren’t they And there we are turn Right So noding to one there side stand right here we are back at GRE motorcycle center and uh yeah yeah you can probably guess I actually uh I like that I like that a lot uh and I would highly recommend anyone that’s uh on the fence you know meteor uh super meteor or

    Shotgun or wait for the classic you know it it’s nice it’s great for me I’d want uh a bit of bling on the exhaust uh but there’s a lot of you guys out there that like the like the black exhaust and that um I kind of I kind of

    Think i’ I’d prefer them to be a bit shorter in length as well at the back but you know it’s it is what it is and it it’s it’s all right it’s a good bike it’s a it’s another one you know yes I’m going to get told off for saying

    How good Royal enfields are I like them I’ve never had a problem with them uh apart from is Speedo um yeah the all this gobins here I know if you can see it see down there it’s a canister that’s all apparently for the Euro 5 emission so I don’t know if it’s

    Anything extra for Euro 6 I’m not I don’t know it’s just the same they don’t uh produce one for the UK UK Market where we don’t have to be as stringent as uh the rest of Europe it’s a good bike the suspension is on its lowest setting and um it’s

    Perfectly fine it’s no not wall at all maybe you know as you run it in a bit uh or you want to stick a passenger on I like it I like it anyway right so uh thanks for watching I hope you found this uh useful um and uh if you’re in the South

    1. Twin clock's and a stainless exhaust is a must for me, i also hate black pipes they really give any bike a cheap look. Nice review glad you like it although it won't tempt me away from my GoldStar, that's for sure.

    2. I really like the SM 650 but I tried it and the suspension is.. my backbone..basically. I sat on a Shotgun at an exhibition recently hoping to bounce on it a bit. It was on its centre stand, so I was sitting on a rock, really. Thank you for this very enthusiastic review. Be careful Mr Hughes!

    3. RE keep improving with every new model and this one seems to have taken another step in that direction. I like you like a bit of chrome on the bike and not really into the all black look but it each to their own. I am interested to see if a Classic 650 shows up sometime soon but no local dealer any more so would need to go to Edinburgh to check one out. The roads are truly awful and this past winter has taken another chunk out of the surfaces, meanwhile they happily spend zillions on bike lanes!!!! It a mental old world we live in.

      Just watched your enfield shot gun review. I was just wondering if it was your money which one of these three bikes would you purchase? The shot gun, the BSA or the Honda Hornet all roughly the same price, last time I looked the hornet was £7,300 0n the road so a really good price and you've ridden all 3 so I would be very interested to know your opinion and would you trade your trusty 350 in for any of them?
      I know the Honda is not a retro bike, but it still comes under roughly that price comparison, to me that seems a really conundrum as to which way you jump, I think my preference would be the Honda but like I said I would like to hear your opinion it and it's not just down to price it's about dealer network, warranty and after market price when it becomes used. I think the Honda would win again
      anyway, keep up the good work

    7. Great film Ian. I bought my bronze chrome Classic 350 from Crewe Motorcycles last summer and I’m enjoying every moment. Your ride was pretty much the one I did at the weekend being local to Leighton Hospital. And yes, the roads are atrocious! Keep up the good work mate 👍🏼. Paul.

    8. RE really needs to get rid of that stupid useless tripper nav, and put a rev counter the same size as the speedo on their bikes. This gauge cluster looks awkward and incomplete because of the location and size of the speedo as compared to that tiny tripper.

      One thing Hitchcocks are designing some really nice racks atm same as the classic 500 thatl cover up those shocking mudguards 😂😂
      Last thing don’t know what’s happening to the new Enfield colour schemes..
      there’s too many retro bikes out there they’re all running out of ideas the bubbles gonna burst 💥

    10. Very good review Ian. It’s a bike with very few faults if you can call them that. I’d have to change the clock layout to a single centrally mounted one with a white on black display. And maybe lighten it by using (dare I say it) plastic panels. I’ve not ridden one yet and though as you say, you can’t feel its weight when riding it, I’m sure that’s not the case when moving it about in the garage. Overall though it’s a nice looking bike. 👍

    11. A fair review and the sound levels were fine, Ian. For me, the bike would look better with a stainless exhaust and a slightly shorter pipe. Re the bathtub Triumphs, all their twins were so fitted, from the 3TA to the T110, with only the Trophy and Bonneville not having them. Personally, having been around when they were introduced, I've always liked the look of the bathtub, though I acknowledge that I'm in a minority on the subject.

    12. First time I’ve seen one with the passenger seat on, looks good.
      Nice looking bike; I’m nitpicking here but I’d loose the tripper coz I have no need of it and have the speedo centrally mounted.
      Self cancelling indicators are great, had them on my 1980 Suzuki GS 1000 EN, odd that they never caught on. Sometimes the indictor doesn’t cancel at the first push of the button, that’s exactly why my inductors get left on, on occasions.
      I could defo see my self on one of these; wouldn’t chop Edna our beloved Inty in for one though.
      Agree with you about the zorsts. Which is a shame coz they look purposeful and I know they are designed to be quiet for Euro crap. Decent set of zorsts in unpainted stainless and jobs a winner.
      BTW, you looked good sat on the bike in the piccies at the end.
