My name is Jay Swanson – I’m an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa. Paris (yes the one in France) has been my home for years now and I have every intention of staying here for as long as they’ll have me. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much. Now I make videos about visiting Paris, traveling in Europe, and try to share what I’ve learned along the way. I hope you enjoyed what you found.

Were you the kind of kid in school that, like, got their homework done early and then had the evening to themselves? Or were you the kind of kid that, you know, did it at the last minute? I asked because I’ve been both.
Today’s been a day of: It’s just one of those days. What? That doesn’t even mean anything. Staying home, doing laundry, work. There’s a bunch of work on my computer that I had to do that has been kind of stacking up. Part of the reason is because work
On the computer is boring. Nobody wants to see that. Just kind of …stuff. So I’m getting caught up on some itineraries for some people coming to Paris here soon. It’s one of the premium offerings that we ran. We kind of ran an experiment with it just to see what it was like
To plan a day or two for people coming to Paris in the Jay style of a day. Like, what I would do with my friends and family. Not the Eiffel Tower, but more like the canal. Not croissants, so much as all sorts of other delicious
Goodness. Cooper found a bone to chew behind me right now. And also I’m covered in, sorry, I just took a nap with Cooper. I haven’t taken a nap with Cooper in, like, a couple of weeks. It feels like. But there’s only one day left. If you’re seeing that,
You’re seeing this on the 19th, which means that the 20th is the last day to get your Paris In my Pocket t shirt if you want to get this. Pretty sure it’s going to be the last time you’ll ever see these guys available. Just saying. Make sure to jump on that
Store.parisinmypocket.com. I gave half of my coffee away yesterday for brunch. I had a wonderful time out at Paul’s place in Montreuil. He lives outside of the city. We have a couple of friends in town. If you remember Dimitri and Ellie from when I was in London, like a month ago, they’re here visiting
Right now, so you’ll see them tomorrow. Gonna go on a little bit of a scooter tour tomorrow. Cooper went nuts. He had a blast. But we need to go replenish the coffee stock. Just trying to stay on top of things. So I keep running out of stuff
And then buying it last minute, and I would like to stop doing that. Are you going to hide in there? Okay. Anyway, I ask about what kind of kid you are, as far as, like, do you do your homework early or do you do it last minute? Because growing up,
I think I was more of a last minute kind of person, and I tend to operate really well under pressure. I get a lot of stuff done quick, but I had to work on developing that skill to get stuff done in advance
Because I learned, like, there’s a huge relief in having it done already and then forgetting about it or having the time and the space to go back and make corrections later if you realize you could have done a better job. Normally, like with these itineraries, I’ve been very quick and Johnny-on-
The-spot getting it done right away. But with the vlogging, like making a video every day? It’s been hard to get the extra projects done and the itineraries have kind of fallen behind as a result. But thankfully, our internal deadlines are set early enough that we don’t have to worry about anything.
Thank God for Emily and my part for now is done. Well there’ll be some refining to do at the end, but so far, so good. I have to remind myself sometimes, even though yesterday was like a very social day, I got to slow down some days to get like, grocery shopping,
Laundry, the basics kind of done because it’s really easy to forget until it all stacks up and it’s like, holy cow, I don’t even have any gym shorts left. But then also just like … détendre… little bit. There’s another coffee shop across town that I really wanted to
Go to today to get coffee because I’d love to mix it up a little bit. This coffee is great. Nothing against it, but I’ll be honest, they’re like in my top five. But there are some better roasters in town. But I also need a day when I don’t get on the metro.
I don’t ride my bike. Just keep it nearby. And besides, Cooper misses this place. He loves coming in here just to see if he can get a snack, which unfortunately for him, the snack givers are not here today. But it’s good to give myself permission and to
Remind myself it’s okay to have a slower day. I don’t have to be productive every day. Yesterday I was more social, less productive. Today I’m like way less social, but more productive in all the boring ways. And it actually feels really good. – The filing date is pretty soon, isn’t it?
– April 15, isn’t it? Quick dinner break. Today’s been one of those days that I absolutely needed. Just feels good. It comes back to that whole, like, getting your homework done thing where especially thankfully, nothing has gotten out of hand or way behind. And it hasn’t for a long
Time. But just that sensation of things stacking up and the knowledge that you need to get it done soon and the temptation to put it off until you really have to get it done. Anyways, thanks to Ric Corbin and all my patrons for making it possible
For me to focus like this. Jeff keeps asking— for those of you that have been around for a long time, you might remember the time that I think Casey Neistat did a video on his schedule in sauce packets and I ended up doing a similar thing as inspired with M&M’s. Jeff’s been
Asking for me to do an M&M’s video for a while and I think I’ll do that here soon. But I just wanted to say that it wouldn’t be possible for me to put so much focus and energy in what I’m doing now if it wasn’t for my patrons specifically. Just watching,
Especially if you watch through ads, if you support my channel through a YouTube membership, buying a shirt, buying my guide, getting an itinerary, there are a lot of different ways you can support my channel and it makes a world of difference. And I think
The accumulation of all of you supporting me in a variety of different ways has made it possible for me to really focus in and I really hope elevate my channel, what I’m producing and bring things to a new level. It really wouldn’t be possible without
You. So thank you for watching. Thanks for occasionally not skipping an ad, and if you have YouTube premium, thanks for just watching my videos, I guess. But I think it’s just important to acknowledge, and I need to do a better job of reminding all of us how important you
Are to this whole equation. So thank you for that. Anywho, I am going to go sit on my computer for another couple hours and I still need to put this video together, so I’m going to wrap it here. It’s almost 8:20 p.m. And I would still like to go to bed
Roughly on time. So I’ll see you bright and early tomorrow morning for yet more of this parisian madness. We’re going on a scooter tour tomorrow. May none of us hit a curb at the wrong angle. I’ll see you tomorrow.

I mean, I saw it on the 18th, but I guess I'm special haha *sign up to be Jay's patron!!
I justify my procrastination as "I perform better under pressure"…. and that really is me all the way.
0:12 I’ve been both depending on my mood. Sometimes simultaneously.
The first big word I learned…procrastinate!
In school, if I had papers to write, I always wrote it out in the last minutes. Anything I spent too long on, I overthought and tended to butcher – by "butcher", I mean B or B+. Anything I wrote out in the last minute was always well received. I even used to write my outlines after I wrote the paper.
I guess I spent a lot of subconscious time ruminating on something, but acting on it when necessary.
So last minute action isn't always procrastination. Sometimes it's decisive execution.
So excited to hear about the scooter tour.
Thanks for the reminder! Typing out my comment while letting the final ad roll.
Cooper whilst you were talking about coffee. I felt like he had stuff to say.
Maybe he disagrees with you about where to get coffee from!!
Keep it near by AND cookie day! It's OK to take a break from fitness, healthy eating & obligations once a week. I was the kid who didn't actually do homework. Fortunately for me school was easy until college. I learned the hard way about planning! It took a minute to get caught up…
I totally get the “stay nearby” days. No metro. No crowds. No nonsense. Call it a Mental Health Day.
Ok, I bought a shirt (Eiffel)). As a gift as I don’t wear much T’s. Long story well maybe short story. If weather holds I will enjoy your pocket Paris tours. 🌴🌴Aloha
I always got my homework done pretty much the same day except for when it was the summer holidays- then it could wait until the very last minute!
housekeeping/admin-y days can be deeply satisfying.
I'm pretty organized and good at meeting deadlines but I'm certainly a procrastinator when it comes to things I don't want to do.
How cute is Cooper popping up at the bottom of the screen. It looked cinematicaly intentional.
Cooper 😂😂😂, I loved how he was on my right hand screen 📺 looking like if he was going to say something next and was waiting his turn 😂😂😂. It made sense that what he was doing was waiting for his snaxs. Two ideas and spin them however you think. Place a camera on Cooper and give us his point of view. Next shirts have Cooper as one of the logos, in my mind I have just the picture 😂. Maybe I can take to you this May 😂😂😂.
Dude I feel bad about getting on ya a bit about the workout in the vlog all the time, it's fine just not ALL the time , daily vloging provides unique challenges and shot challenges, but a laundry montage heck why not? Etc. Don't want to see you put too much pressure on yourself the shorter vlogs here and there are fine as well. Not everything needs to be documented, but it all doesn't have to be glamorous, or what everyone else is doing. You are doing great, just don't burn out.🎉
Dois-tu déclarer vos impôts aux États-Unis et en France ? Si c'est le cas, c'est vraiment très triste. 😢
Definitely a last minute kinda girl.
You're a Legend Jay▶️🎬
Thanks for the video Jay! Just want to know about the ads in your videos… so if I don't skip the ads, that helps you? I didn't know that. If so, I won't skip the ads from now on. Cheers!
